Font book - what do these wacky symbols mean?

I installed a font that apparently does not contain an apostrophe. In the screenshot, I typed an apostrophe three times. Each has a different symbol instead of the apostrophe. I use a U.S. English keyboard.

• What are the symbols mean?

• Why each instance would be different, even if I type the same character?

These symbols are what OS X appears when you type an unknown character in scripts of Kannada, Thai and Cham.  The police must be really messed.  Where did you exactly?

  • serious error font book when installing fonts

I'm working on a project of layout for a client who sent me a few project-specific fonts. Installing, several (not all) came up with the "serious mistake of fonts, do not use this font" in the font book.

It is possible that these fonts are damaged indeed somehow (I asked the customer to other versions), I wonder what means this error and how serious is it? Is there another tool/software that I can use to assess these fonts, or book fonts isn't the best option?

I use a MacBook Pro with Yosemite

While the symbol 'attention' of the font book can be ignored in almost all cases, if it shows a font is seriously damaged, do not use it. Fonts are plug-ins for the operating system and use RAM for each one that is active. A severely corrupt police going to do the same things poorly written or damaged app will do. As a corrupter of RAM used by other applications.

Apps as FontDoctor is maybe able to fix it, but it's not free. Well, it's sort of free with the purchase of Suitcase Fusion (you get an activation code for both). FontDoctor can be purchased separately.

First of all, I would like to see if your client you can send own copies. For example to put all the fonts in a .zip file and e-mailing you. This will not help of course if they are corrupt on end of the customer first. If this is the case, they will need download new copies from the seller, they bought them from CD/DVD if they in this way. Then send those to you.

  • font book disable vs delete?

In terms of performance/system resources, what is the difference between the option 'disable' and the option 'Remove' in the font book? I understand that we simply removes access by applications (disable) and the other in fact removes the file (delete).

But the two will keep fonts with the RAM?

I ask because I seem to have a lot of fonts to style Asian and Arabic that I'll probably never use, but I still hesitate to remove them completely.

In which case it is important, I use Yosemite

Delete means book fonts will turn them off and remove the font itself to the reader. However, it won't do the latter if it is a policy in the system folder.

Disable means police will remain on the disk, but will be disabled.

Whatever it is, you disable all fonts are delivered in RAM so applications no can see or use.

  • File this police, but not in font book

A few years ago, I used a font named Marion, but it no longer appears in the applications.  I see Marion.ttc in/Library/Fonts, it previews fine, it can be check using the font book, and if I try to add it book fonts warns that it is a duplicate.  Clearing the cache of fonts (by rebooting in safe mode) has not been set.  Any idea on how to make available?

    OS X 10.11.6, FontBook 6.0

    OS X 10.11.6

It is yet another bad font supplied with El Capitan. I still have to check all fonts included, but are not well known:

    Athelas.TTC, Charter.ttc, Seravek.ttc and SuperClarendon.ttc

After testing the Marion.ttc earlier, it is also not good.

In all cases, if you replace these fonts by those of Yosemite, they work as they should. Those of El Capitan can appear in some applications, not at all in others, or only one or two typefaces when it should be more. As you can see the normal font, but italic and bold are AWOL.

  • Fonts I have installed in the font book are missing after the upgrade 10.11.6

I ran the upgrade recommended this morning at El Capitan 10.11.6 on my end 2011 MacBook Pro. A certain font was not available when I opened an Illustrator document, so I opened the font book to see why and found that hundreds of fonts, I entered the book of policies over the past year or more are missing. I know that real fonts are still in my police records, but a number of hours of work participated in their addition to the font book and organize them into folders. Is all the work is lost, where can I access the preferences that contain this information somehow? What a brake if not. Font book does not yet have all folders that I put in place, they are just empty and only the core system fonts are loaded.

Unless I can access the old prefs I guess I also install all my software again, to make sure that necessary fonts are loaded?

    Help!

    Hello

I put the font book to install fonts in the default user folder, when I install new fonts normally do not appear in the font book, but the policies are copyed the folder user (~/libreria/fonts/). However if I manually copy the fonts in the user fonts folder then the fonts appear correctly in the user of the book of the Fonts tab. Could someone give me a solution for this problem and I could install fonts using the Font Installer?

Convert to PDF from word, the fonts are not included, the word doc record embedded fonts, but conversion does not incorporate fonts?  What should I do to get the embedded fonts?

I used times new roman in word 2013.  New file.  Apparently the version of adobe that I use will not incorporate.  I use the version line.  I was told that I have to upgrade to Adobe Pro.  I'm dealing with a patent application, so I can't share the document.  The patent office cannot accept that documents with embedded fonts.  My drawings that have been scanned and then converted are a problem too because I get an error based on the size of the page (23.6 "x 32.4") and I am unable to reduce this size in files from Adobe.com.

Unfortunately I signed up for this product that get these two converted documents and uploaded only to discover that the conversions will not download.

If you click on 'Restore the standard fonts', fonts that are not included in the OS X systems is placed in a "fonts folder (deleted) next to the fonts folder.
