Formatting 300 GB WD HDD

OK, here's what I have:

I have windows xp pro service pack 3 I installed a Western Digital hard drive additional 300 GB and formatted it.  He formatted only 8 GB of space instead of the whole 300.  I know he can do it all, it is formatted as a Fat32 drive and do not know what to do now.  It is a caviar blue hard drive WD3000JB.

Thanks for any idea of what I am doing wrong.

You may need to delete the partition, as it can actually be an 8 GB partition instead of 300.

After you create a new partition, you should be able to format it correctly.

However, my suggestion is that 1) get in shape using the advanced file system called ntfs and not the standard old fat32.

and (2) create and format partitions equal 3 approx. 100 each, instead of having a single 300 GB partition.

    Hello

    I have a Satellite R10 - 101 Tablet PC.

I wanted to back up my hard drive by copying an image of my entire hard drive on an external USB hard drive.

I got a 300 GB hard drive on a Windows XP SP2 desktop machine, mounted the drive in a USB2 enclosure and the player properly connected to my laptop.

However, whenever I connect drive USB2 HARD it does not 'jump' automatically and whenever I want to access it I have to go to disk management and to reactivate (it always seems offline).

I have no problem with my Ipod 60 GB (with video), or with usb flash drives.

I unchecked the box in System/Device Manager / USB Root Hub that says allow windows to turning the unit off. I also tried to reassign the drive letter of the USB2 HARD drive but still no luck.

In addition, when you boot the pc with Acronic True Image to backup my HARD drive embedded it does not recognize the USB HDD...

I have the latest BIOS and all windows updates, my laptop supports these external hard drives type of?

I can try to make it work automatically (e.g. be visible like a F:\ for example when it is plugged into the usb port)?

  • Satellite U400 - how to return to the format of partition with HDD Recovery

    Hello

I bought a new notebook Satellite U400 with Vista Home preinstaled thereon.
I went through the initial configuration and once it was done, I realized that making the partitions of HARD drive does not fit my needs.

So I resised the partition of 'Vista' (acctually I shrunk it) and made the largest partition of 'Data'.
I did not do anything with the hidden partition.

Unfortunately, when I did this procedure I formatted the 'Data' partition.
Now, when I want to make the backup with TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator DVD I got the error message saying that it is not possible because I formatted the 'Data' partition.

Is there a suggestion how to fix this error?
The system's fine, the only thing is that I'm not able to save and restore the operating system.

    Thanks Vecerka

It wasn't good buddy. If you deleted the partition of HARD drive recovery, then you would not be able to restore it!

Now, you need a new DVD of recovery!

  • How to format a 2 TB HDD Windows xp pro

I just bought a Samsung 2 TB 32 MB cache hard drive. I partitioned and wanted to format the entire disk. I had a return of the small part and the rest unused. Do I have to load it a utility from microsoft or another company to perform this task? I searched on the web without success.  Thank you.

How do you partition the disk?  Use the built-in disk management tool to prepare and format the drive.  To start the tool type diskmgmt.msc in the box run from the start menu.

  • Xp pro installation error. 0 x 000409 to 06976db5f. On reboot, set up restarts... ad infinitum

Hi all. Can someone please help? I failed to find answers despite many many internet searches and forum for this error.

I reinstalled xp pro sp2. Everything seems to be okay and I get to a point where I swap drives to the motherboard drivers. A little later, I wonder for NvcplSetupEng.exe (graphic drivers.) At first I couldn't find these and it was a good pain. In the end, I downloaded the package to install drivers of Nvidia WHQL, footage to newly directories to C:\Nvidia\Winxp\185.85\English, then Setup continuous well...

Until very near the end, I get the configuration error. 0 x 000409 to 06976db5f.

It should be noted, when I first asked the file NvcplSetup, my usb mouse / keyboard unusable. I use ps2 devices to locate the entire file.

Ok. The fixed. I don't know if the change of name SPIOSYS. SYS had nothing to do with it.

The details have been this: error message during xp pro reinstall. nine minutes from the end when registering the components.

    Setup.Exe - Application error
The unknown exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location (0x6976db5f)
    OK Cancel

This may seem simple fix, but was a lot of work to get the answer, and the absence of any so-called MS 'MVP' help/interest to the problem confirms this. Very disappointing. MVP badge was not worth these days. Especially a non - person MVP can often do a better job!

In any case, the fix enough ranting, had to boot from another partition of work.
Fortunately, I had a Winternals ERD 2005 disc in my toolkit of long ago.  You 'can' get by using bartpe or find a copy of Hirens boot cd.
    Or get this http://icompute.info/repair_windowssystem32config.htm

Once started, I used the system restore preinstalled environment to come back a few weeks.
This will prevent the stupid launch facility.
Now you should be able to start. Get in the problem by running sfc/scannow.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • Install W7 clinging to the "Installer starts services.

Recently bought a complete W7 Pro, I was very happy with the CR, but now I would have rather spent the $305,25 at the bar as I was without a computer to office for more than a week.

I am currently hanging in the "installation program starts services' and he sat here for a good 12 hours

I had several problems with the installation, and I am now on my 5th attempt.

-Installed (on my HARD drive) on my daughters HP (AMD 64 bit) flawlessly. ID of thought be slick and throw it in the dell, start in safe mode and install drivers... restarts to windows loading screen

Don't know if you tried, but start to the top of your windows dvd and when it is completely initialized to support SHIFT + F10 this will open a command prompt.  Now type diskpart, and then enter.  Then, type the following text:
    drive list - enter
Select disk 0 Enter or any disk you install to.
    cleaning - enter
    Create primary partition - type
    Select partition 1 - enter
    Active - enter
format fs = NTFS quick - enter
    assign - enter
Get out and complete your installation as you normally.

I had a windows 7 machine tha this happened and I did the above and he knew very well.  It seems this part of the boot manager is still around after the os Yuri is extended down on the disk and is in conflict with the installation.

    I hope this helps.

  • Data transfer Palm Pilot IIIx for Blackberry 8320 blackBerry smartphones

Thanks to BBSingh for help posting this message. I would really appreciate help from the members of the forum to provide a remedy that is known to work with my Palm and Blackberry.

My problem is changing my old (December 1999 vintage) Palm IIIx data to my new Blackberry 8320. Years, I have used the Palm in conjunction with a Motorola L7089 (April 2000 vintage) and their IR ports for data transfer; Unfortunately, the phone fell in water and after drying carefully, he could make and receive calls again its screen remains empty, so no need to send SMS and most of the functions. Sales team convinced me to buy the Blackberry, but I'm starting to wonder if I've been conned, as usual with sellers once they get your money that they are not prepared to do anything else. New technology has undone me. In the long task of transfer of several thousand items manually I had recourse to the expertise of this forum.

A tip I found has been updated the Blackberry Desk Top Manager to v4.6 and it would list the Palm in its devices to transfer data from. I did, but the resulting Wizard at the point of registration of the Palm, but it wouldn't activate a greyed on the option button. DTM for Windows status options System Tray icon COM1 has been disabled. I could allow it, but as soon as this dialog box has been closed COM1 returned to the disabled state. BTW, this is a non sequitur on COM1 Hotsync of Palm transfers data to the PC via COM1 and the Palm software tools works very well also. I closed all the related applications of Palm and it made no difference. I tried DTM 4.5 with the same result. As an aside how the icon options DTM is deleted from the system tray, Windows Task Manager should be used to close the application.

Another tip say to export data from Palm in Outlook Express, then DTM would need to be OE. I enabled OE reluctantly because it is a questionable product, a favorite oxymoron is "microsoft security", has exported the Palm data in a CSV file, but when they are imported to OE it's garbage. Repeat the exercise but exported as tab delimited and got a worse result. Try to import or the other of these abortions in my Blackberry has been a waste of time.

Another tip say export data from Palm as VCF which can import BlackBerrys, but did not say how they did it. Palm tools allows only the comma or tab files in the delimited export formats.

MY PC is a Dell 4600 with 2 GB of RAM and 300 GB SATA HDD, XP Pro SP3, so that all the relevant fixes SP3 post. Windows Firewall software, the AV and malware have been temporarily disabled, and I logged in as administrator too.

    RESOLVED - 98%

A big thank you to everyone who contributed ideas. Here is the solution to most data transfer: -.

    1. install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5

    2. download the latest tools of Palm Desktop Manager which is 4.1.4 (I used 3.6)

    3. perform hotsync of Palm IIIx with Palm tools

    4. disconnect the Palm Pilot from PC

    5. connect the Blackberry to the PC

    6. open Blackberry DTM and check ' device (PIN): "appears

    7. Select the device switch Wizard, grant conditions and the next screen shows active button for Palm devices, click Next

8 calendar, addresses, etc. are read, previews of each appear for approval; with the exception of the calendar. Click OK to finish and get out

    9. close DTM, disconnect Blackberry

10, opening relevant applications on Blackberry to check, all transferred no problem except the grille which was empty

I can live without the old calendar entries and do not have to manually re-create handfull. So the question is settled.

  • MacBookPro successfully updated for the SSD but old disk HARD not accessible as external drive

    OK people,

Successfully, I upgraded my MBP late 2012 to 1 TB SSD with the help of the community here. Thank you.

My old drive was an 8.1 El Capitan\Win Bootcamp and worked pretty well without fault.

I used the disk utility to clone the OSX partition and did a fresh install of Win10 through BootCamp.

    So far so good.

However, my plan was gradually transfer the files from the old partition Win 8.1 in the score of Win10 that I need them.

That is the problem. Win10 OS or my OSX recognize the old Win8.1 HARD disk partition. However, they both recognize the old OSX partition.

The two operating systems (OSX\Win10) was format\Initialise the old HDD when connected through a USB enclosure.

As a test, I swapped the old disk to the MBP and it started actual Win8.1 therefore the partition is accessible. Actually I'm in it starts now as I type this message.

Watch Windows Disk Manager partition as a RAW rather than NTFS where the desire to get in shape. I am reluctant to start playing with partitioning\recovery tools because I can access the drive while having to open the MBP, but it is accessible.

Is there a reason why the original HARD drive is not accessible as a normal external drive?

ATM my only option I'm looking at is a copy of right of ALL files in the Windows 8.1 on another disk partition so that I can easily access the files.

    Ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Try ejecting the disc (use disk utility), reboot and reconnect the drive.

  • Replacing the HARD drive on the satellite A110-252

I'm looking for a replacement of the hard drive for my laptop and I don't know which are compatible.

    I understand that I need a 2.5 "internal HDD, size 7 cm x 10 cm x 9.5 mm

However the confusion for me is above the interface, I think I understand it, is that it is a SATA interface - this correct?

.. and if so, I noticed there are SATA-150, SATA-300 & SATA II HDD, you or the other of these works to the machine?

Is this all I should which is not compatible with the laptop, for example rotation speed, he search speed, maximum size, manufacturers etc.?

    Thank you very much

    Dougie

    Hi Douglas

I understand you very well. Sometimes I m also very confused because the entire designations in the laptop world
In any case, during the search on the net I found useful information on the compatible HARD drive for your laptop.

It seems that the satellite A110-252 support SATA (serial ATA) 1.5 G interface. Most compatible hard drives support a rotational speed of 5400 RPM and that is why I recommend buy HARD drive 5400 RPM

The laptop comes with 60 GB HARD drive. Am I wrong? I think generally you should be able to use a 80, 100 and 120 GB HDD without any problem.

  • In the Media Center in XP System Restore does not work

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum so please be gentle!

I have a Dell Dimension E521 with XP Pro Media Edition.

12 months after I bought the pc, I had a problem and wanted to use system restore. The calendar showed various restore points, so I chose a. After going through the motions, the pc has restarted and then told me the system could not be restored and no changes.

I tried several different dates but the same thing happened.

I have contacted Dell but don't got no help because it was out of warranty, I contacted Microsoft and they told me to contact the manufacturer - Yes, you got it in one, a full ride.

Over the years, I tried several times but still the same system restore. Finally, I thought that maybe it's a "glitch" when the operating system has been installed at Dell.

Recently I had to reformat my pc. so re-installed XP Pro Media New Edition (a Dell OS disk). Two weeks ago after several problems with Norton Internet Security 2010, I tried restoring the system again. Before, he goes through the motions, but then tells me the same thing.

Anyone please got any ideas what the problem.

And to answer the question, Yes, System Restore is turned on and with space max.

Windows XP Professional (5.1, build 2600) Media Edition

    3 GB RAM

    300 GB of HDD (2 x 150)

    AMD Athlon 64 x 2 processor dual core 4200 +.

    Thank you

You mention that you have installed Norton. Norton has been known to cause problems with the system restore. My recommendation is to disable Norton and then attempt a restore. Post back with the results.

    Hope this helps

  • two hard drives, one with vista and the other with XP and you want to remove second disk XP

I have a hard drive that came with my computer and vista on it, I added a second drive to my bench that has XP on it. I want to remove the second XP disc and simply use it as a storage drive, and I'm afraid that if I try and uninstall XP disc, it allows to uninstall vista of the first hard drive instead. or should I even try and uninstall it all and just delete all files? Since there is nothing in the registry for all the things on the second disc. If I uninstall XP second drive will be there remove all of that second drive? because there are a few things about this, I still want to keep. I should also mention that it is divided into three separate letters, if I do not uninstall XP I lose all three of these letters of partitioned drive? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You can just uninstall XP. Anyway, as you say, you can remove the folder Program Files and Windows in that partition but personally I would just copy the files I need to another partition (on the hard drive where vista is installed) and the format of the old HDD.

  • Install XP Pro on a nc8430

I try to install XP PRO on a computer from Compaq nc8430 and have had the same results with 2 different drives. The status line shows all first, there is a 300 GB drive, then it passes to 3.9 GB. It is with the SATA Native mode disabled in the BIOS.  In native SATA mode, I see only avaiable total 3.9 GB on the disk. I can format 300 GB using a bootable cd.
    Any ideas?

    Hello:

I think that the player could have been a little too big for the machine...

I'm sure that you need the system driver mobile protection for one of these devices missing ACPI:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1839150&prodNameId=1839197&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&swItem=PSG_I23293-108276

The other can be your quick launch buttons driver:

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1839150&prodNameId=1839197&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-57820-1

Let me know if that has them one or all of the. If you have still a lack I think then this is the TPM driver which I do not see even on this support page. Try this one out a 6910p:
