  I recently had a hard drive replaced requiring a new installation of Windows 7. When I went to get the system in place, the guy who set up Windows told me that he created the user directory specifically in a way so that new files to be created in a Documents folder that was created under the username. At least that's what, in my view, said.

  In any case, I always create new folders and their subfolders under Local C: drive.  My question is: is there an approach appropriate to where and how files should be created and arranged, except directly in your main drive, in my case C:? Thank you for your help.

  Windows 7 has been designed with the intention that user folders and files will be store in one of the folders under the users, that is to say the Documents, photos, etc.

  It is not recommended to store in the root, i.e. C:\ directory.

  If you have any other disks or partitions, you can store what you want there.

  I'm under MacOS Sierra. I am connected to my iCloud account. I activated the option Desktop and Documents, but I did NOT activate the option optimize Mac storage, because I wanted to make sure that all my files would be available locally, just in case, I would need to work without an internet connection.

  -J' noticed there now a menu iCloud in my sidebar in the Finder, with links to Documents and desktop.

  -J' also noticed that Documents is no longer presented in my favorites in my side bar of the Finder.

  -This last suggests that files saved in 'Documents' are not saved more on my HD... but only in iCloud, which isn't what I want.

  -Then, sailing in the Finder Macintosh HD/users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are more visible, as if these files are not saved in my home folder most. Which raises the question: where are My Documents and files on my HD, so they are still?

  -Using a shell session in the terminal and again navigate to/Users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are still there. Which suggest that records and records of office reside actually still in my home folder under users, but Finder actually hide it and present them as being stored in iCloud only disc. It's very confusing.

  This raises several questions:

  -In the first place, why Apple hide Documents and office files in the directory? Why not view these folders in iCloud and directory?

  -Whence the iCloud folder or drive, reside actually on my hard drive?

  -What time Machine. Is it still back up my document files and folders?

  -What games third-party app mirroring backup of My Documents files and folders? They still work properly? (I use Livedrive backup and Sugarsync for files mirrored across several macs).

  -How can I understand that Apple is doing with my folders and files? Some users might be happy with the iCloud drive concept, without worrying about how it works, but I don't take chances, and I want to keep a good understanding about the functioning of my system.

  Could someone explain what is exactly happening?

  With office and selected Documents, access to these files are now in the iCloud Drive, not in your home folder.

  My guess would be that they do not appear in your file because it would be confusing for many people to make them in two places.

  If you want in the Favorites, open iCloud Drive and drag them in the sidebar here.

  All about iCloud drive has been saved on your Mac. With the exception of the office and the Documents, they are in ~/Library/Mobile Documents. However, if you choose optimized storage, older documents are removed from your Mac. I don't know what is "old".

  ~/Documents and ~/desktop have new metadata indicating probably Finder does not display them in a Finder window, only in iCloud drive. They are not hidden in one of the normal methods of unix.

  I have not tested Time Machine or any other backup program. The folder still exist in your directory home, and they still have all the files, I don't think that changes anything.

  What is the difference between the use of a backup Favorites file ".json" and a file of bookmarks ".html"? It seems that both of them do the same job. If this is the case, then why there are two options (.json and .html) to do the same job? If this isn't the case, then what is the reason for the availability of the two options and how are they different? Although I read the material, it didn't quite clear form me again.   My question previous (25/02/2016 09:44) problems with the HP Solution Center has been resolved today - I can open the program and I can scan.

  But now I can not print word and excel files - the paper is completely empty. I can print emails from google, but they are difficult to read.

  In Control Panel, devices and printers, I have until now had a HP printer: HP0BAC44 (HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m) but now I also have the printer: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m (Standard). Who would have something to do with the problem? I tried printing from two of them, but the result is the same as mentioned above.

  The regtrans files are linked to your NTuser.dat. NTUser.dat stores information about your profile. It goes the same for .blf files.

  Because they are specific to the user account, the location name \Users\User seems in good condition.

  Im trying to create a script that will list all the .bat and .cmd files in a specific folder and add the data to a new file (file.txt) - example below:

  dir c:\>desktop\file.txt/OD
  dir d:\>>desktop\file.txt
  dir f:\jobs\*.bat>>desktop\file.txt/OD

  IM able to search the F drive and the list of all the .bat files using a generic parameter, but ideally id like to search for .bat and .cmd files, but whenever I have it try does not work. Any ideas?

  Any help is appreciated, the reason for which I need to check all the .bat and .cmd files is to ensure that the scripts on a cluster are all data, so need them all listed in a doc if possible

• Replacement installers and exe files...

  OK, so I started working with distributions and had a question... say I create an executable file and the program installation, but once I have start running it I find that I have a little problem... None of which would require an extensive rewrite, but maybe I want to maintain a constant or two or change the size of font here and there... and rebuild my exe file.    Now, I have to build a whole new installation program or can I take my new exe file and drop it on the target machine, replacing the first exe file?

  For testing purposes, you can usually just replace your executable file.  But you want to rebuild your installer for the official version.

• How can I keep the photo files id3 tagging? (And video files?)

  This question is about id3 tagging files photo (and video?). Probably, it revolves around managing the media too.

  I have tif and jpg files that I took of the old and the new point and shoot cameras. What I'm trying to do, is to have jpg and tif of the originals. Make some changes and have a jpg and tif amendment. So I have 4 files for each image (2 independent is the original and 2 Edition). I want a lossy and lossless for each file.

  I've bothered to fill out somethings in the id3 tagging. When I tried some changes in batches to get the files, id3 tags was empty.

  I use Windows XP SP3 Home Edition 32-bit. I tried to use FormatFactory to an export batch. I use Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X 3 also, who gave the same results.

  In Windows XP: I right click on the file, the Properties tab, I think it's the details. In my view, title, author, subject, keywords, comments. It's the id3 tagging which not copied.

  When I right click and COPY a file, it keeps the id3 tags.

  I really think there's a way to deal with this. Anyone use? Nobody cares? Need scripts and a certain program? I don't think that I would have to pay for it. How professionals and more or less experienced people do it?

  I don't want a markup that is recognized by some programs. I can do that already, but it is too advantageous. I won't tag id3 4 times. I don't want a watermark.

  Are the methods or rules identical for Win Vista, Win7 or Win8? I have 32-bit and 64-bit Vista Home Premium, but have not tried it on there. I have to start the migration of files again. Vista is choose with id3 tagging anyway from what I tried. I keep said that Win7 is similar or the same.

  A place to start...

  When a photo is copied... a new version of the file is created.
  During this process, some software will remove metadata
  in the file properties.

  The only insurance that I can think of would be to make a backup of the
  metadata, then restore the metadata if it is deleted.

  The following freeware has not been updated in a long time, but is
  a proven method to backup metadata.  Also the site
  suggests other alternatives.

  I guess you mean, NET Framework and its different versions.  It is a programming platform, some of your applications need this to work.  Instead of having to write completely every thing software developers scratch use so-called "frameworks" to ensure that their applications do certain things, for example, if you want to tell your program to save a file, just insert a little short of code that calls the framework to do real work, in this way, you don't have to write all the code to save the file and orders the programming for this platform.  Not only this saved a lot of work, he adds also in general more stability to the software that the programmer doesn't have to test and debug these programming functions that have been developed and tested by Microsoft, otherwise, it would be some sort similar to reinvent the wheel for each piece of software.  If you know a little more about programming, or on older versions of Windows 9 x, .NET Framework is like Visual Basic and the runtime libraries, it is a more recent incarnation of software platform.  It is best to not uninstall and play with these different versions, if you are part of your software may stop working.
