This problem is quite recent, because before there is no pop up and there is simply no OS listed, so I still could not repair or restore in any case.

  -Before, when I was able to go into the advanced options on the Startup Repair disk (when he was not of "searching for Windows installations" pop up to stall on), I'd go to the command prompt in attempt to chkdsk/r C:. All bad sectors or groups or something else would be fixed, and then he would hold to step 5 of 5 when checking free space.

About 2 weeks, my Windows Vista out of nowhere began to fail in the market with the infamous and hated "cannot start Windows, a recent hardware or software may have... "and the options of start that none who work.   I suggest that you try the startup repair using the windows vista installation disc.

  1. Insert the installation disc.
  2. restart your computer.
  3. click on the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.
  4. If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

  5. Select Safe Mode and press enter.
  6. you should see loading drivers and wait please.
  7. you should then be on the Welcome screen.
  8. connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.

  I actually had this problem for a long time, but I'm just now to a point where I'm ready to take a lead in fixing it.

  I can't identify when it started, but Windows Vista does not start upward, with success of a full stop. The screen looks dim and sits there, with the text of the copyright of Microsoft Corporation. So, after not having on the mound, I have to manually shut down the computer by holding down the power button. When I try to start again, told me to go through the Startup Repair tool.   If you change the motherboard that you normally have to reinstall vista

  your hard drive if you ever reinstalled vista contains the drivers for the old motherboard etc.
