Freezing in El Capitan

I had a daily OSX freezes in El Capitan on my MacBookPro below. I thought it happened only in Chrome, but today it happened so that in my mail client, the mailbox. Everything is normal until the cursor freezes and the Mac everything becomes unresponsive. The only way out is a hard reboot, hold the power button. I have checked the logs of anomalies and not found. I reinstalled OSX from my recovery disc, but the problem continued.

Ideas on the causes or the diagnostic measures?

Thank you!

Three months ago, I bought an iMac with OS El Capitan new 21.5 with an upgrade to 16 GB of RAM.  In the weeks following the purchase, he looked for freeze with much activity Beachball.  The only way to get around this was to turn off the machine by pressing the power button and then turn it on again.  Two weeks ago I took in my local Apple store for an appointment at the Genius Bar.  After a diagnostic test there is nothing wrong with the hardware.  They decided that it was a software problem and performed a reinstallation of the software.  Two weeks later my iMac is still freezing almost every day, just like before.

A couple of searches of the Internet shows that I am is not the only one having this problem, forums and magazines are full of identical complaints of using El Capitan Mac owners, however, the staff in my local Apple store will not admit there is a problem?  Anyone else here have this problem?  Is there a solution to this problem?

Please post a report of EtreCheckof your system. We then look for obvious problems. Please click on the link, download the application and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste into your response to this post.

If you would like more information on what is EtreCheck, just click on the link and you will find a description of the application.

If you have installed an antivirus or any application on the cleaning system which is probably the case. If you have, and then follow instructions to uninstall their application developers! Restart the computer in Mode safe to clear some of the caches by holding down the SHIFT key when the computer reboots, until the computer reboots completely. Then restart normally and test it.

Most of the problems are user induced, so I'm looking forward to your report to EtreCheck. In addition remember that Forums are like hospitals. If you wanted to learn the general health of a city would make you its hospitals? Of course, no, they are full of sick people.

  • Safari keeps freezing with El capitan 10.11

Why Safari freezes with the wheel that rotates often now? I can barely begin to use Safari, and after having clicked on anything be it more than once, I get the spinning wheel and have to close and reopen or completely off and restarts.

Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

  • Freezes and restarts on 2015 5K running El Capitan iMac and am ready to freak me out

    Hi guys,.

If I posted my check and reports being panic, could someone tell me what caused random freezes and restarts on my iMac 5 K - ish, El Capitan running? I am a designer/Retoucher and I am in the middle of a big job, of course.

He went on and off for a few months. I have cleared my startup disk and played fresh OS installs (didn't even use Migration Assistant just to be safe), three times. I installed apps one at a time try to refine what is the cause but could not.

At first I thought it was my mouse Logitech G502 because when I went to an old mouse for a few weeks the problem has disappeared. But yesterday, listening to iTunes via Airplay and working in InDesign, the system froze again.

I wonder if she might be SoftRAID(4) and/or my two RAIDs of 4 external ThunderBay?

    Thanks in advance!

    Steve

We can take a stab, please publish a report full of EtreCheck, and if we do not see everything that you can post your last report KP.

  • El capitan 10.11.6 freezes randomly without safe mode

So, after the upgrade to El Capitan on my iMac, retina pro, I started to have problems with the mac that freezes all the time (yesterday, couldn't work because it freezes a few minutes after opening--more than 10 times).

Tried all that I found in the forums, and not not not using SAFARI, unplug the video plugins, diagnostic app, etc. Nothing works

It only works on safe mode, but does not have the extension to see videos for example (which I need to work).

Today, it happens the same thing - I'm in safe mode to write the email now, or would freeze already.

What is happening is that by using the mac without safe mode, the mouse + keyboard freezes and nothing else happens.

It's really annoying - I just changed from windows to have a reliable system that is certainly not the case.  Has anyone observed this behavior and is there a solution?

Any ideas on how to solve this problem / test? Really panic - computer is less then 1 year.

    See you soon,.

    M.

PS: I do not know how to make the backup of the system so can not go back to the last installation (as indicated in some forum).

Usually problems are caused by old or incompatible software or other software that you can have as "cleaners" or antivirus.

    Hello Kluggerjo,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Support from Apple. I know how important it must be able to count on your devices work as expected, and I have a few steps that should help resolve the behaviors you see.

I would recommend to go by resetting your management system (SCM) controller. MSC helps control and regulate different material on your Mac, including Bluetooth systems.  This article will guide you in this process: reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

If you still experience the issue after the test, you can test the behavior to a test user. This will help us to determine if the problem is systemic or isolated to your user account. This article will guide you in this process: How to test a question in another account on your Mac user

If the behavior is duplicated to the test user, I'd recommend reinstalling El Capitan. This will not delete your data. To reinstall using the recovery mode, take a look at this article: How to reinstall OS X

  • El Capitan 10.11.6 freezes on MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid-2012)

After the update of 10.11.5 10.11.6 I noticed that my macbook started to freeze just without reason. It freezes on the basic actions like the click on the right button of the mouse, keyboard typing, switching between apps, etc. "Activity Monitor" shows very low use of the CPU, RAM and HARD drive. I tried to install El Capitan from scratch with a full erase of volume but freezes appear always. Previously on 10.11.5 everything worked pretty quickly.

    Here is my system hardware:

Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

    SSD: SanDisk SDSSDHII480G

    Hello no,

It seems like your Mac knows after update to El Capitan version 10.11.6, frequent crashes. Even after a reinstall full Mac OS x. If this is the case, you can try to start the Mac in safe mode.

Safe mode (sometimes called secure boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents certain software from loading automatically or opening.

OS X El Capitan: start in safe mode

If the freeze occurs in safe mode, please try resetting the SMC.

The MSC is responsible for these and other functions of low-level on Mac Intel processor:

    • Respond to the pressures on the power button
    • Meet the display of opening and closing on portable Macs
    • Battery management
    • Thermal management
    • The SMS (motion sensor sudden)
    • Detection of ambient light
    • The keyboard backlight
    • The status indicator light (SIL) management
    • Battery status lights
    • Selection of an external (instead of internal) video source for some iMac displays

Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

These procedures should be your Mac works well in no time at all. Please use the Apple Support communities to post your question.

    Have a great day.

  • I've demoted from El Capitan in Yosemite because of Photos of freezing. My photo library is now useless. Help, please!

I've recently upgraded to El Capitan, and absolutely not regret it. I was able to access my photos, but any time I chose videos, panoramic, etc.. Pictures would freeze. My photo library is stored on an external drive, because my library is too large to fit on my laptop. I even went out and bought a new way of thinking of external drive, it was a problem with the lack of an update of El Capitan software compatible for the reader. But now, I see that this is probably not the case.

So I went down to Yosemite and now I have this message: library not supported. The 'My Photos' library from a newer version of Photos. Please update the Photos to open this library.

It's maddening! I upgraded to El Capitan, thinking they had the bugs developed here. But the pictures kept freezing and I had to force quit whenever I used the application. I want to just go back to what worked before. But Apple won't let me.

I tried to fix this for days now. Someone had a similar problem? Have you been able to "downgrade" your photo library?

I appreciate all the advice. I'm ready to give up the pictures after getting my library. I really think that I would be better to download my phone by Preview and any filing manually in the files on my external hard drive. Over the years, problems of iPhoto/Photos took weeks of my life. I'm exhausted.

Before you upgrade to El Capitan, you should have a copy of your photo library. There is nothing you can do now, but go back to El Capitan. Photos in El Capitan should do even better than in Yosemite. I think that you updated a dysfunctional Yosemite, but since you have reinstalled it maybe, again, you should try El Capitan. This time you can try to install El Capitan on another partition of your startup disk if you have enough space to do so. If this isn't the case, then install it on a separate disk. Now, if you have any problems, it will be easy to return to Yosemite. In addition, you can see that El Capitan work best when it is installed properly.

There are several things to consider:

It is a five year old computer, problems are bound to happen sooner or later, so get ready to tha.

First of all, you need to maybe bad RAM. Agents of the launch system, System launch Daemon and your virtual memory information imply that something is eating all of your ram. 4 GB is not much, but it should be more than enough unless it no longer works properly.

My second comment would be the hard drive. Generally, a rotating disc is not a long life in a laptop, being pushed around when the laptop is turned on and was moving. It is possible that you have bad blocks.

Thirdly, it could be your battery. Plain and simple, a dying battery.

The best option at this point would be to make an appointment at the Apple Store and run an MRI (Mac resource Inspection) to detect what can go wrong.

Check if the hard disk needs repair.

Open the disk utility, located app in HD > Applications > utilities

Select Macintosh HD on the left then click the first aid tab, and then click Run.

  • El Capitan slow and freezes.

    Hello

Since Friday, June 3 of this year my iMac has been regularly making slower with the spinning beachball showing when I open an application and when playing iTunes, YouTube, Vimeo, VLC etc the system just freezes then starts again normally. I ran Intego Internet Security, run CleanMy Mac but also run the same Washing Machine, Intgeo reinstalled El Capitan, but its still slow and freezes. Also, the activity running monitor did not throw all the problems.

No software has been downloaded or installed until this happened, just from appeared Friday and has gradually deteriorated since.  I bought the iMac in 2012 and its been a joy full every day since then. Even that by typing the text in the screen freezes then the rest of the sentence make it up a few seconds later. Also scroll, left and right mouse click can take up to 25 seconds to work, even if the mouse works no problem, if that's any help.

    My system is:

    iMac 27 inches (mid 2011)

    3.1 Ghz Inel Core i5

16 GB at 1333 Mhz RAM

    1 TB HHD

OS X Version of El Capitan 10.11.5

Any assistance here for me would be really appreciated.

First of all, get rid of all the software Intego and CleanMyMac.  They are not necessary and can only add to the problem of slow system and applications.  Do a Google search to find the developer instructions to uninstall.

Also download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results in your response. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that has been developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple's Support personnel) of the CSA to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the most obvious culprits that can adversely affect the performance of a Mac.

  • MacBook Pro 2015 El Capitan freezes completely up randomly

    Hello

As described in the title, at random times my MacBook Pro completely freezes! Firstly roulette starts show and then everything freezes. After a few seconds my trackpad turns off (?): when I press on it, it does not the * click * sound more. Everything will be frozen and I can not move the cursor.

The only thing I can do to make it work again is to reboot by pressing the power button.

It happened 4 times so far and I think that each of them has occurred while I was with Safari (9.1). Does anyone have a solution for this?

I'm still under warranty, but if it's a software thing I would really like to fix it myself, because I am currently my university studies and I can't do three weeks without the laptop.

    Thanks in advance!

Backup your computer if you can, then do the following:

Install Yosemite or El Capitan, from scratch

Restart the computer. Immediately after that the chime hold down the command and R until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:

    1. Select utility disc in the Menu Utility, then click the continue button.
    2. When loading disk utility, select the volume (entered into withdrawal, usually Macintosh HD) in the list to one side.
    3. Click Delete in the toolbar of disk utility. A panel will fall.
    4. Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).
    5. Click on the apply button, then wait for the done button to activate and click on it.
    6. Quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu.
    7. Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.
  • 2015 the Macbook Pro 13 Retina El Capitan freezes randomly

    Hello

I have a Macbook Pro 13 2015 with the Retina display. I plug in December. It has the most recent update of El Capitan (OSX 10.11.4). I have 91.8 GB of free space on the SSD drive. Around a month ago, freezes bad has started to happen. Frost occur generally when I'm browsing Safari, I do not know if it has nothing to do with YouTube videos, but maybe it's interesting to note that I usually have a tab open in Safari that's YouTube when it happens (but not always). Today, I already had 2 freezes, before one arrived, I read an article and it happened (a YouTube tab was open in Safari, however, the video did not play for the moment when frost arrived). The second time, watched a YouTube video, and freezing that happened when I clicked on the time bar to make the video at a specific time. Frost usually occurs when I interact with something like that, opening of a new video in YouTube (such as clicking a recommendation of video on the right panel), or interact with the video itself. Note, after I restarted the computer, the previous video is one which opens in Safari, if frost has occurred during playback of the video which freezes just after I started playing.

However, it is not only Safari which can cause freezing. There was a specific case, when I looked at the images in the Photos app. There were many of them, and I pressed the arrow left and right to navigate through them. Then he suddenly freezes the whole system, couldn't get out of the application or anything. Such a freeze is really bad, I can't interact with the computer somehow, the mouse cursor freezes, time freezes in the status bar, no Cmd + space for Spotlight, no physical reaction buttons whatsoever. Only option is to wait a few minutes (in order to clearly identify the process before and during the system failure in the newspaper), and then press and hold the power button until the machine stops.

I thought first of all it is a software problem, I did a complete reinstallation of the system (formatted the SSD drive, downloaded Yosemite, then upgraded to El Capitan, once again). I had 2 weeks of calm, but today it happened again (2 times so far). I share the newspaper of queries system log: all messages. The last frost that happened at 13:31, and I waited until 13:37 to restart the computer. If I'm not able to detect the problem, I think I'll try to return this product, because I think that it is unacceptable for a machine that costly to freeze the whole system and lost unsaved process in Word or whatever it is.

    Thank you for your help,

    Adam

  • My iMac keeps freezing since the upgrade to El Capitan!

    Hello

    Can anyone help.

I upgraded a few months ago in El Capitan and since then sometimes had problems with my desktop freezing, an irritation but not too much trouble.

However, in the last two weeks, he becomes a nightmare!

Most of the time its does not happen when I put the cpmupter "sleep" and then when I try and wake him up, she is just completely frozen, & I cannot do anything and end up having to put the broad & market with the switch at the back of the computer. Sometimes, it just freezes in the middle to help and is not even specific to the use of any particular program.

Can anyone help or make suggestions, what could be the problem or how I can try and identify the problem. I'm not technical, so really don't know where to start.

Currently running OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 Version

    iMac (21.5 inch, late 2009)

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor

    Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3

ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB graphics card

    Thank you very much.
