Future designer/graphic designer

I want to become a designer/graphic designer and I want to create anything logos, print to interactive media and I was wondering, what are the areas most important to focus on in programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator adobe, etc. ?

Go to the individual program forums and ask the users here to get advice on the tutorials (or use good for 'something like' tutorial photoshop or indesign tutorial)

  • Comments - not a design bright pleasant keyboard

    Recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. Looked good in the shop under the Nice bright lighting however once I got it home under normal lighting key lettering is hard to see.

    The design of the laptop uses gray lettering dark on the black keys. Funky Yes, but easy to see under normal lighting... certainly not! Worse even on an aircraft.

    I hope that Toshiba will take into account the lighting on the future design of keyboards.

    Can you please tell us what model of laptop do you have?

  • Comments on the system, I bought

    First of all, I tell myself I should layout, what I bought and what I added to the system.

    • Dell Studio 540

      • Core 2 Quad Q8300
      • ATI Radeon HD 3450
      • Onboard 5.1 (Realtek)
      • 8 GB RAM
      • 640 GB drive internal SATA
      • 640GO of external drive (which I moved from my old system)
      • LinkSys WMP600N (that I purchased separately)
      • DVD - RW
      • Keyboard Microsoft I had (4000 natural)
      • Mouse MS that I had (IntelliMouse Optical)
      • Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP1 (now upgraded to SP2)
    • Dell UltraSharp 20 "widescreen LCD (which I moved from my old system)
    • Reference Dell 20 "widescreen LCD with webcam and stereo microphones

    And now comments:

    1. The system scenario and the new monitor have a gloss finish.  I ended up concluding that it added nothing to me.  In fact, they show fingerprints easily.
    2. The glossy part apply to the display area of the new monitor too.  Unfortunately, it adds a lot of glare that does not have the older UltraSharp monitor.
    3. The webcam is a disaster.  Do not buy a Dell monitor just for the webcam.  In my case, my glasses can make things worse for the camera.  They reflect the light emitted by the good monitors the camera.  In any case, all I get is a bad dark image.  I tried to play around with the settings, but they did not help.
    4. The monitor, UltraSharp, while several years older, has more connections than the new video monitor.  I do not use them, but some people might still have a use for connectors S-video and composite.  Now, if the new monitor has a HDMI connector, that is not, it could compensate for this loss.  The irony is that my video card has only a single DVI connector.  I had to separately buy an HDMI cable to DVI to connect two monitors.
    5. The UltraSharp monitor has more settings in the database.  In fact, the new monitor has not.
    6. The new physical buttons on the monitor are smooth, but add not much more than the glitter.  Not what I paid for.
    7. I was really hoping a chassis without tool.  He did not.  In fact, this matter is the exact opposite of "no tool".
    8. For desktop computers, the location of the center of media player, in the middle of the front of the case, makes sense.  But I put it on the floor (on a trolley).  I don't see when I put my CompactFlash card or a USB device into the connectors.  So it would make sense that future designs would allow the Center to move up above the external and placed disks at an angle.  The center of the whole being a USB device, such a system could be plug-and-play.  Owner simply moves the Center to the desired location.  Once the Center is far from the default location, external drives move downwards to fill that spot and make room for the new location of the Center at the top.  The current Center makes room for a floppy drive, but why?  There is no floppy connector on the motherboard.  I you happen to have a card PCI IDE of my old system and an IDE LS - 120 (bed LS-120 120 MB disks, and standard floppy disks), but I don't see the trouble.  Most of the people do not have those.  So either kill the 3.5 "Bay or something similar.
    9. It's a good thing that the door in front of the media center can be left out.  I never close these doors.  In fact, I have simply removed their cases.
    10. I'm upset that a $1300 computer does not come with VT - x support.

    I hope that Dell will improve their products, based on my experience.

    Thank you for the interesting comments on the PC.

  • Preferences to shape default data?

    Is it possible to make a set of preferences to the default set of preferences for the new future designs? Or better yet, is it possible to save them in a file so that they can be shared by a team of modelers of data and thus facilitate the company naming standards?

    I've created a set of preferences for designs 1, saved, then came back and changed, then created Design 2. Default preferences for design 2 consisted of my initial (and not more recently unregistered) series of preferences for designs 1. Looks like there may be a bug here...

    Thank you!

    Hi Sally,

    Ignore the button open. It does the same job. Select existing xml file or type in "test_exp.xml" and the path.
    Maybe you typed in 'test' without extension and could not find the file or it is in a different directory.
    It works trust me :-)

  • Display on Satellite A210-1AO problem

    I have a Satellite A210-1AO running Windows Vista.
    Since a couple of months, or a recurring questions arose: at random times the laptop gets lines across the entire screen. The lines aren't straight, they're more like following the shape of the image (so * they change according to the image of the screen *) and are in color (I think mostly green, but not sure). I often turn off the pc then and the next time I turn it on is fine. Once, however, during the closure, the screen went white but the pointer/cursor was always visible.

    The incidents are more frequent. Once, I tried to unplug the charger when it happened and lines began to blink and be even more worrying, so I plugged the charger while I turned off the laptop.

    You have any ideas what might trigger such behavior?

    On the virtual path that is not easy to offer accurate diagnosis but I think the graphics card is the troublemaker and I m afraid that it will be even worse in the future.
    Graphics card is part of the motherboard, so a kind easy fix or replacement is not possible.

  • Flex charts: They improve?

    Hello!

    I'm doing a few cards minimalist for some ultimate PDF of annual reports and business plans. I have them in Illustrator first, but graphical tool Illustrator has not been updated since 1996, and it was a real pain to update my paintings as the numbers changed. With Flex, I can just generate XML-based graphics that I got out of my business models in OpenOffice. In addition, they look really good and are interactive.

    It seems everyone I talk to say that the Flex Charts suck. That they were made by people who do not have to follow the standards. Personally, I like the Flex Charts, although I'm not a big fan of having a lot of 'Waiting to support improved CSS', 'should be CSS"etc. comments in my code:

    https://gist.github.com/1623621

    https://gist.github.com/1623625

    https://gist.github.com/1623628

    Does anyone know if this will change? Are there new Flex charting libraries in gestation?

    -Dwayne

    P.S. If you can, please forward this message to as many Flex developers that you can.

    Flex is now an Apache (http://incubator.apache.org/flex/) project and the future of graphics components is determined by the Community open source. However, I think Adobe can contribute to unpublished work he has done to a version of Spark of the graphical components.

  • Dynamic action - update

    Re: Anthony sample application to demonstrate the dynamic action http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=39830:38

    It seems that native dynamic action Refresh (currently limited to the refresh of the regions report) simply refresh the content of the report by re-running the query. But if the region has text strings using the & POINT. Notation (for example in the header, the footer, or title), which is not updated.

    Am I missing something or is this a limitation of the Refresh action conceived as it is? I'm sure that the Apex Team plans to improve it in the next version, but is there a way to DIY in this version?

    Thank you

    Hi Vikas,

    Yes you are right that "Refresh" will just refresh the main region component. For example the report or in the future chart. But it won't refresh the content of the entire region.

    1. the reason for this is that a region may also have page elements that save session state are entrusted to him. If us would be updated to a region, the internal mapping of the name attribute of the INPUT tags could change based on conditions screen which screws up the whole would submit the treatment.

    2. the updating of the partial page regions (and in the future for graphics) only run the SQL statement set for component there and is the logically defined set for page rendering (for example, calculations, process,...). If a region would now use & Pxxx_TEST. to reference session state in the content of the region it would most likely be NULL or return a value of false if the values were recovered by an extraction process DML during page rendering (which simply writes in memory).

    Therefore we must consider whether we support in the future and perhaps allow him to some extent in place.

  • Student graphic designer - which Mac?

    Hey everybody!

    I'm a university student who has two years left in front of her. My laptop is almost the end of his life, and I want to transfer via a certain type of Mac. I do a lot of design work, and as tempting as an iMac, I need it to be portable for my graphic design work of campus.

    So I guess that, to start: MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? Research online, I have done so far, I still see talk about the MacBook Pro, but if there is a case to make for others I would be more than happy to hear them!

    Taking the example of the good MacBook Pro, where should I go from there? Obviously being a student and hoping to eventually get an iMac on the road, I'm not looking for the most expensive thing out there (a big reason why I'm looking for a 13 inch instead of a 15-inch.. but I would like to though), so even if I hope it would be a little cheaper than that, lets just use like $1,500 as a max.

    When I think about my use of the laptop, what I really use it is Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator (when I hope that this new Mac so I will seek to get the creative cloud), Microsoft Office, Chrome and Spotify. So what should I search for storage and Memory-wise? What 128 vs 256 a big different in my case? What 8 GB vs 16GB of memory?

    Sorry for all the questions, but if anyone has answers or other important supplements I should take into account when making the decision, I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

    Consider getting the small screen, then adding a much larger external display (non-portable).

    That allow you better portability and always give you a good amount of space on the screen once you have gotten to a workplace or your apartment or dorm.

  • iMac specs for graphic design

    Hello

    I'm looking to upgrade to an iMac 27 "with the 5K retina display. Im a graphic designer by day. It includes video editing, photo editing and some other processes quite heavy. I'm looking for some advice. IM thinking the the 4.0 GHZ i7 with 16 GB of ram and 4 GB video card.

    I wanted to just make sure that 16 GB of ram and video card of 4 GB set at level is necessary. The ram should be good from my understanding. I wanted to check on the 2 GB to 4 GB. I have a Nikon D750 and shoot with that and my ghost 3 dji advanced quadcoptee for photos and videos. No advice and no information would be useful. The best buy sales guy told me just says 2 GB is enough, but it doesn't seem like him reading some forums and helpful advice on apple's site.

    See you soon!

    Edit: I have a macbook 15 inches of 2011 which has been running Adobe CS6 and now creative cloud. Recently, he took to always for my photos and applications to open it. I just want something more suitable for the process that I am running without basically put my MacBook to death.

    RAM is scalable user and it's cheaper than buying the RAM from Apple. The upgrade, it is just a 5-minute process. This means buy computer th with the base 8 GB and then buy RAM from a source reliable as OWC (www.macsales.com) or critical (direct purchase) and increase the RAM yourself. Video cards can never be upgraded so get what you need. In addition, buy an SSD based machine, the largest capacity, you can afford.

    Finally, consider getting a refurbished Apple iMac in order to save hundreds of dollars. These are practically as good as new, have the same warranty as the new and are identical for new. In short there is no downside.

    I wonder if someone met fuel 3d design graphics containing factor of load on x and rpm on the y-axis. The ratios of fuel (running lean and rich) appear on the 3d graphic function where the mouse cursor is in the field. Its very common to see software solution turnkey in the market, but I hope that labview is capable of doing. If so, could you please help me on where to start. There are a lot of sensors on the car and I compactrio and everything also. I need help on the place where from, like which screw do I and this is the usual way of signal acquisition using daq assistant and so on?

    Hello Kwaris,

    I'd say the best place to search for the start-up of your cRIO's finder example in LabVIEW itself there are a lot of examples available out there that might only need to the alternances of mine to find the solution you are looking for.

    In addition the cRIO examples there are several examples that illustrate the use of 3D graphics who has X Y and Z axis

    The image below is the example of trace of 3D surface.

    Opengl32.dll is not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. I reinstalled the graphics drivers. During the execution of the games, it shows this error. What should I do to fix this? Is it a graphic file or a file from microsoft?

    Hi Jason,

    1. What is the number of brand and model of your system and graphics card?

    2 did you a recent software or hardware changes to the system?

    This error can be caused by an application, including any old games you have installed on your system.

    Because you tried to reinstall the drivers for video card, you can try to perform a clean boot and check if it helps.

    A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

    You can read the following article to put the computer in a clean boot:

    How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Haha, I was JUST talking to a friend who wants to use the blender for animation work & a PC (or Mac since it has debate between them) for him. She is a computer laptop 17 "who want to, but I think you want a desktop computer, Yes?

    If so I have set up this Studio XPS 7100 for you real quick.
    Phenom II X 4 820 + ATI Radeon HD 5450 1 GB
    -[Change of the 945 CPU series for $40]-
    -[Change the combo CPU/GPU for the Phenom II X 4 820 + Radeon HD5770 for $130].
    -[Change the combo CPU/GPU for the Phenom II X 4 945 + Radeon HD5770 for $170]-
    4 GB RAM DDR3
    750 GB HARD drive (get twice the space, 1.5 to, for $100 more)
    No WiFi [add WiFi-N for $40]
    $739,99

    Or an Inspiron desktop PC - 580 is a good choice:

    Core i5-750 (no upgrade option)
    ATI Radeon HD 5450 1 GB of DDR3 memory (no upgrade option)
    4 GB RAM DDR3
    750 GB HARD drive (more great option is 1.5 TB for $60)
    No WiFi option
    $649.99
    I think you're going after the Studio XPS for two reasons: 1) it is their more "professional" series without being in the category of small businesses. And (2) Sudio XPS [IMHO & encompassing experience] have hardware failures less than any other brand Dell - except perhaps Alienware. But if they fail they break hard [as at the most $$$ + time of difficulty].

    Doesn't include no guarantees or additional software (office, programs Adobe, etc.).

    A little more in detail about my choice:
    AMD Phenom II X 4 CPU work comparable to the Core i5 series - usually, the differences being between 3 and 5% in various tasks (except games) according to hardwaresecrets.com - in order not to sweat a significant difference in performance. For what you do, being for the most intensive graphics, I can't say that your CPU will take into account as well.

    My concern is bridge - not being is not familiar with it, I had to do a little research. It is certainly more time intensive GPU CPU. So based on the measure you use it you might otherwise. Which can be discussed if needed.

    Speaking of graphics, the ATI Radeon HD 5450 is a 1 GB model. By design, it is better to have a bigger framebuffer (in other words, the video RAM) and a fast GPU. Games & video encoding hardcore would benefit more from that. Of course, feel free to upgrade the processor in the Studio - you are not able to do in the initial configuration of the Inspiron 580 on the site. But it can always been done later, if necessary.

    Finally, I would state that it is both moderately specc'd had systems. It will last you a few years in terms of decent performance. After that I'm sure Adobe CS 6 or 7 will have new encoding software to take advantage of the new new equipment manufacturers. If you are looking for something that will last longer... well consider a bigger budget [I don't know what yours is] & factor something like a Core i7, 8 GB of RAM (at least) and an ATI 5770 in there with the larger hard drive, you can manage.

    I'll be happy to help you more, if you ask. Just after once you have read this.

  • How to design own graphic interface for text entry

    Hello world

    I use the black background in my application and I would like to create my own custom controls which looks nice on a black background.

    For text input, I managed to create an entry of text with white background and black fonts. But I couldn't make the field to be a little larger than the text nor I was able to focus the State field.

    Code:

    public class CSTextField extends BasicEditField {}

    public {CSTextField()}

    Super (Field.FOCUSABLE |) Field.EDITABLE);

    }

    protected void paint (Graphics g) {}

    g.setBackgroundColor (Color.WHITE);

    g.setColor (Color.WHITE);

    g.fillRoundRect (0, 0, super. getWidth(), super. getHeight(), 5, 5);

    g.setColor (Color.GRAY);

    g.drawRoundRect (0, 0, super. getWidth(), super. getHeight(), 5, 5);

    g.setColor (Color.BLACK);

    Super.paint (g);

    }

    }

    See here: http://liechti-fotografie.ch/share/textfield.png

    Do you have an idea how realize that the focus is visible and the text field seems good?

    Thank you

    Do not design your own text input field - build a Manager around it that meets your needs.

    Here's an example of how this can be done:

    A scrolling line text entry field

    Read the comments - there are a few examples here on adding borders. I don't think you need boundaries, but they can give you ideas on how to position the fields in order to create some padding between the text and the surrounding black background.  You seem to be advanced enough to be able to easily change the code corresponding to your needs.

    Good luck!
