  If the DVD player is replaced, you are 100% sure it works well then you probably have a problem with faulty HARD drive.

  If possible, try to get one for testing purposes. It can be used. Replace the HARD drive and try to install the top OS. Check if you have full access to the HARD drive.

  I try to connect a video recorder/player for my Qosmio G20-108 and have had no luck so far.
  Tried the red-yellow-white cables that came with the laptop, can get sound via the laptop, but no image.

  Then tried the input cable tv/satellite of the RGB output on the video via Media Center but can't get the laptop to tune into the video signal - just says there is no signal detected even when the video player is on and play a tape.

  Any ideas anyone?

  I just noticed yesterday that my screen looks a bit above. It is not outside the screen, but when I use a torch I can see when the screen is off.

  He is not dead pixels as I still see through them and it is unlikely that it is a crack as the pixels still light up. Is it possible that a hair has penetrated the screen somehow.
