G62 freezes

After you run a diagnostic test, I think that the hard drive on my hp G62 is a failure. I got following messages is displayed: fast 1 303 hard disk when running the bios. DST short failure gxx1aj-5bc6kb-xd003f-60xw03. Product ID: xh070ua #aba. What type of hard drive should I buy to replace this one? What else do I need to buy to get my laptop up and running again? My computer did not come with any recovery cd for now, computer still works in safe mode. I hope that I can get stuff moved to my external hard drive. I was trying to support the things when I first met my cursor/pointer of freezing. Thank you

Hello

You are welcome

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

Hard drive 500 GB

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 57 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Reinstall the operating system.

There are two options available.

1. you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, the drivers, and the nerly all the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).

Order HP recovery disks.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

Also, if possible, back up the folder swsetup which lie at the root of the C drive.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc you using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( that must be the same version that originally came with your laptop ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.  These Images are clean and a well respected source, however there are only limited versions available.

Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-Windows-7-by-phone.aspx

Regarding the drivers etc, you must, if you were able to save the swsetup this will contain all the software installers and drivers for your laptop - if you were not able, drivers and software, you may need can be found here.

Best regards

    Hello

I have a G62 which keeps freezing minutes after the start. After reading the forums, I ran the HP SMART Check and on the Test drive , I got the following response

    Smart Check: spent

    DST short: failure

    Failure ID: Q4G5W2-5AR71F-9XL03F-60R003

    Product ID: XF332EA ~ ABU

    HARD drive

    I have Windows 7 64-bit o/s

    Can someone please help

    Hi George,.

You will need to use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system to a new disk - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set.  Looking at the model number of the laptop, I guess you live in the United Kingdom - if that is correct, you will need to use the 3rd party on the link below.

    HP recovery disks.

For the existing personal data, you can have the existing drive, your best chance of data recovery would be to use the services of a company that specializes in data retreival, but it is a fairly expensive to borrow road.

Another option, you can try (and much cheaper) would be to remove the HARD disk space, in an external enclosure - an example of what you need is on the link below - connect to another PC and see if you can access your files.

    2.5 "HDD external Caddy.

  • HP G62 freezing at the windows startup screen

Hi, recently my laptop kept freezing randomly, but now it will not even past "starting windows" when I load up. I ran the two hard drive and who both have memory tests. Also tried everything on the menu after pressing f10 and f8, including safe mode, but all the options keep freezng at windows startup or stops at a black screen and only being able to move the mouse. Any help would be greatly appreciated that the laptop is relatively new. Thank you.

It's time to find your set of recovery disks or usb recovery media that you created when you set up your laptop.

If you have not created a set, you have the choice of where to get a set of recovery disks. The cost is usually about $30,00 USD

    Order a HP recovery disk
    from an HP partner

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP for a warranty replacement drive. Refer to the troubleshooting forum and give the representative of I.D. failure HP support: Q4QG9R-54T6LD-9XL03G-60QM03d if requested.

If it is in warranty, just buy a replacement and remove the original disc and put the new in its place.  Insert the first diskette in recovery agree for the warning to commit to a recovery and image selection recovery plant.

You can also use the Microsoft Windows COA 25 character license key and install Windows 7 from a usb\dvd Installer. The usb Installer is highly recommended.  You can download an iso file for your operating system here.

  • Laptop HP G62, freezing, "Short DST Fail"

    Hello

I have some major issues going on with my laptop.  I'm currently logged in Mode safe because whenever I'm in normal mode, now, the laptop charge apparently correctly, works of 3 1/2 minutes (Yes, I've timed it) and then freezes.  Any program that I use - or if I use a program at all-it freezes again.  I tried stopping at each startup program to load with the exception of the "pointing device", and he always did, so I eliminated the possibility that he is one of the startup programs causing accidents.

I then established fact, Start-Up and system development tests and all came back with the result of "DST short: failed" with the ID of the failure of 97KX30-54L5JU-XD003G-60VW03

I saw where someone else posted that they were getting a message 'Failure of the DST short' and it was recommended that they do a diagnosis on their hard drive, BIOS, so I just do that.  He gave me the opportunity to make the short test, and when he got to 50% (and 5 minutes from the end) it populated to a text box saying "Disk Hard 1 quick 303.

I'm hoping that someone with more experience and knowledge of computers can translate some of this for me and tell me if the short story is that my hard drive is fried and needs to be replaced.

    Hello

The result of fast hard drive 1 303 of the bios disk test hard means indeed your drive is failing and must be replaced.  If your computer is not under warranty, it is a relatively simple process to replace the drive yourself.  If you want an explanation of this, post back with the complete model number or your mobile PC REF and the size of the HARD drive that you have.

Make sure that you back up all your files etc as soon as possible.

  • HP G62 freezes: G62 from HP support assistant everything freezes

I just reformated to factory specifications, I have problems with a program called Maximizer I deleted due to problems with outlook. Anyway, the HP support assistant came and I let it is updated, after delivery to zero all seemed well. The support assistant came once again, and then I moved my mouse to check if she had more updates. All of a sudden it just froze, I had to make a hard stop. It restarted and I thought I should update the microsoft updates in the center of the action. Well, I got 172 among young people, so I let it go and when it's over, he said there is an error in update, so he does a back, taking things just to install the update. After the roboot the assistand of hp support came again and froze on the screen.

I held the button to turn off the system and restart.  I went to the hp support assistant to stop the automatic update service, it took three times to make that happen because of the freeze ups. So that does more. and I also left with ms 177 updates I disabled the Auto for this also due to the inability to install those...

    So what now?

Am working on it now to make this forum. but I do need to update the netframework updates and think.

but I don't want to take the risk of an another freeze. are there tools that I can use to repair or check what's wrong?

    Thank you in advance.

If you need more information please let me know...

    Thnx Sparkles,

I'll give that a try again... It works well now, cut off all updates. But I will try what you suggest, I hope nsa is not putting spycrap in updates from Ms...

  • HP G62 - gel system

Problems with my system (hp G62) freezing when I do a disk defrag and backup. Records have been cleaned - malicious software Anti run - chk disc and showed 3 bad sectors that have been set. Before the disk check has been made, the system froze everything by making a complete scam of the Norton System. Since chk dsk, running the full scan of the system Norton is no problem, but the disk defragmentation gel is?

    DP - K

Followed your instructions and when I went out to get - Western Digital Diagnostics software - I received a message of "Norton" as the site that I was about to enter was not sure. I did not and will not enter areas which are not secured, so instructions were not met.

I removed the "Microsoft Security Esenttials & reinstalled"Norton Internet Security".» I then did a scan 'Fast' and a 'Full' scan with no problems. Then I did a cleaning disc, followed by a 'Disk Defrag"using the"Auslogic Disk Defrag"program with, again, no problem. If the problem is in the area of the system freeze when running a Back-up system - I can live with that.

I certainly appreciate the time and effort you put into this problem and I don't think that you have made a difference in performance. I would like to take this time to thank you for all that you have done and tried to Edifier. I will continue to perform various tests in the future to try to eleviate the problem.

    Thank you for everything

  • Computer laptop G62 keeps freezing

For the last two days, my laptop G62 - 227 CL keeps freezing once I used it for about 5-10 minutes.  It freezes completely - no cursor movement or response to all keys.  In addition, it freezes any programs I am running.

However, I am able to use the computer in Mode safe mode with network without any point of freezing (so far; I was in Mode without fail for about 30 minutes).  Unfortunately, I need to use MS Word, which does not work in Mode without failure.

I use the computer entirely on the current because the battery is pretty much kaput.  Could be the problem?  If so, I'm confused as to how the computer can operate in Mode without failure.  I can't afford a new battery, so I hope that there is just some sort of software problem.

Is there some kind of diagnosis I can run who can tell me what is the problem, or if anyone else has had this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

    You are welcome

From your description of the issue and the HARD drive error code, it seems that the player is running out - is one of the reasons for which a failing drive will run in Mode safe because it experiences less load (in terms of read/write) when Windows is running in this mode.

The first thing I recommend is to back up all your personal files etc so that you always have access - lack of readers can be unpredictable.

Once completed, see if the following is helpful at all.

Start in Safe Mode, click the Start Menu, click computer, left click Local disk C once to highlight, right-click on Local C drive and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click on the button "check the drive for errors.  In the next window make sure that both boxes are checked, then click Start.  Right plan the audit on the next reboot of the system, and then restart the laptop - this process can take several hours before the load in Windows.

If there is no improvement real time this is over, it is probably time to think about replacing the HARD drive - if you want a guide on this procedure, please let me know.

    Hello

The two error codes would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  It is also compatible with the issue of the gel.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty, replacing the hard yourself is fairly simple.

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 47 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - the procedure is detailed here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

  • HP G62 laptop computer: laptop freezes after startup

After starting my laptop freezes.  How long after starting varies.  Sometimes it will freeze after only a few minutes. Sometimes it can be operational for an hour or two.  Want to know how to fix this.

Tested hard drive and the Long DST failed.  Has given an ID of the failure of QAGCHR-5GH847-XDOO3A-61AKO3.  Product ID is XHO66UA #ABA.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters is a failure of the entire test (DST) disk Self and would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the freezing issues you describe.

If you want a guide on replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • G62-340US: laptop freezes constantly

    HP G62 - 340US Laptop, 3 GB, AMD Athlon II PC340 Dual Core 2.20 GHz, Windows 7 64-bit (product #XH066UA #ABA)

I just can't take more.  Since the first day, this laptop has been poor performance.  Hang in there too.  Takes forever to open a program or a browser.  Anytime you click anywhere, the blue spinssssssssssssss circle.

How can I reformat to factory settings if I do not all discs?  I don't think this will fix the issue because it was so out of the box.  I tried so many different things to boost performance (updated touchpad driver, updating the bios, remove the starting applications, etc.) but it does not matter.  I was going to upgrade the RAM 8 GB / 3GB, but I don't think that it should be considered to prevent him from hanging.

Just want to go back to factory settings and re - assess.

    Thank you.

    @Barbenae ,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.

With a laptop computer hooked up here there's several reasons for this.

Have you cleaned your laptop to reduce the accumulation of things on the heatsinks and fans for the laptop can be cooled?

Have set you your system power settings?

Did you run the diagnostics of hardware BIOS to see if it is a RAM problem or hard drive?

If this is not the case, here are a few links to check.

Test a hard drive from BIOS

Laptops HP - diagnostic system (F2)

    PC HP hardware diagnostics

Regarding the recovery of the system, there is a link on how to do so.

    Hi read,

    You are welcome

Try a new installation of the flash plug-in as follows.

First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    Flash Player Uninstaller.

Once the download is complete, close all the browser windows, open your downloads folder and run the program uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the laptop.

Then (unless you already have it), download and install Firefox , then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash. Note: You can deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before download.

Close all browser windows before you run the installer of Flash.

Start Firefox and see if the videos etc. play Ok in this browser - if they do, close Firefox, open Internet Explorer and click on the same link Adobe Flash above to get a command prompt to install the ActiveX component.  Once completed, restart Internet Explorer.
