G70-460US Notebook PC: Update No. Bios to activate the Secure Boot

A friend ask me to upgrade its G70-460US Notebook PC to 8.1 Win Vista.  The bios isn't a place safe boot option and what verification HP update for this machine does not show it no more.  It this laptop to old update to Win 8.1?  If not, where can I find the upgrade of Bios with the Secure Boot option?

Hello

Unfortunately, the machine is too old to support secure - start the restriction is due to the limited capacity of the bios chip.

To be able to boot from sources other than the drive HARD internal, the boot mode must be set to the CSM and secure boot must be disabled!

    > 2. I created a USB recovery using the control panel in Windows Pro 8.1. It starts OK. It will be the same as that I've created using the Toshiba Media recovery creator or will it drivers Windows Pro 8.1?

Your laptop has been preloaded with Win 8. Right? For example, the USB flash stick memory you just use the Toshiba Recovery media creator contains the Image of Toshiba with Windows 8. Don t mix this Toshiba image with the image that can be created using Microsoft's own backup and restore function. Both are different pictures!

The last partition contains the files on HARD drive recovery. Usually this partition will be created again when you use the Toshiba Recovery disk to put the laptop back to factory settings. So in the case where you n t need this files or the partition, you can delete

Make sure you have the Superfetch service running and then try to speed up the startup using my guide [1]. This causes the prefetcher in Windows 7. This increase startup performance a lot. All other tweaking tools are useless. Use this method only with this Toolkit from Microsoft.

If it is not to speed up the startup process, follow my guide [2] to do a followed by start-up and compress the boot_BASE + CSWITCH + DRIVERS + POWER_1.etl RAR or 7z and transfer it to your Skydrive [3] and post the link here.

    "Prerequisites .
-Microsoft .NET 2.0 is required. UEFI and Custom Imaging - the HP BIOS update must be run from a FAT or FAT32, partition with a volume of the "HP_TOOLS" name This Installer gives you the option to install on the hard disk (HDD) or USB. If you install on the HARD disk and the HP_TOOLS partition is not present, Setup prompts to create the HP_TOOLS partition. If you install on a USB key, Setup renames the partition on the USB in HP_TOOLS. If you use a custom image, you can create the HP_TOOLS partition manually with the type FAT32 and that the volume HP_TOOLS name. ATTENTION:-the UEFI system partition is not protected and can be removed. -Backup of the computer by using the complete PC Backup feature of Microsoft Windows Vista does not save the UEFI system partition. For these reasons, HP recommends that you place no additional data on the UEFI system partition. Because the partition is not backed up, corruption or failure of the partition will result in the loss of all data on the partition, as well as the loss of UEFI functionality. There is little documentation on how to use it, but a Member here figured it out.

    using Windows 7:
Just plug in the USB key and then run the SPnnnnn.exe BIOS file downloaded from the Web site drivers HP.
Assuming that the USB is configured correctly (see below), Setup the BIOS sees the HP_TOOLS partition on the USB, copy of the BIOS and its file signature on the USB key, then run Setup winflash. The system BIOS detects the USB and the partition HP_TOOLS and the BIOS is magically updated.
I put in place a new USB key as follows:
1 rename the partition HP_TOOLS from the hard drive to something different like HP_TOOLSbak
    2. Plug the USB
    3. Download and run the utility to update the BIOS (not the BIOS, still) drivers HP support page.
    4. Select the option to install to a USB
    5. Select the option to create the partition HP_TOOLS
    6. The reader should now be formatted as HP_TOOLS with a record of Hewlett-Packard containing BIOS and BIOSUpdate records. The BIOS folder contains empty current, news and previous records.
7 download and run the HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) MS drivers HP support page
    8. Select the option to install on a USB key. This will create a SystemDiags folder under the Hewlett-Packard folder
    9. Download and run the HP Notebook System BIOS update for the HP support page drivers, given that the USB is correctly tagged it will install the update of the bios on the USB drive
10, we have to end up with a HP_TOOLS partition on the USB drive identical to the one that you removed from the hard drive.
Once you have configured the USB drive, you can upgrade to other versions of BIOS (most recent or oldest) using this drive, as I mentioned above: just plug in the USB and then download and run the BIOS Setup program.

Having said that I'm not sure of what you do, once you boot the USB drive.

  • How can I get the update for bios on my Pavillion m9500y UEFI

    System model NC683AA-ABA m9500y

I installed Win 7 and need W8 but W8 Advisor said that I need the Bios which supports UEFI followed by the v2.3.1 Errata B and has the authority of Certification Microsoft Windows in the UEFI signatures database.

So, how can I get the new BIOS?

    Dan

    Thanks for your reply.

You're right, MS Win 8 update Advisor said that I had to have this update to install W8.

However, secure boot will not work without it. So, since you say that HP does not BIOS update more than a year, it means that this PC does not have a secure boot. Built in obsolescence.  I hope just as malware ladies keep looking for rootkit stuff and do not rely on MS to keep safe.

Is something wrong with the installation of the update?

    Thank you much in advance.

    I have a Qosmio x-870.

If you see a message "Secure startup is not configured properly" in the lower right corner of the office, this means that Secure Boot is off or has not been configured correctly on the PC.

Secure boot can be enabled or disabled in the BIOS.
You need to access the BIOS and should allow secure boot.
Save the changes and restart the device.

  • Trouble with BIOS and secure boot

Hello, I own a HP Pavilion 15-b040sl, born with Windows 8 Sleekbook and has been upgraded to 8.1. Now, I decided to downgrade to Windows 7 (I own a regular product key) and has done so successfully (I'm also using a Linux distribution in dual boot). The problem is since I've upgraded to 8.1 Windows, Secure Boot allows automatically when starting (it did not before upgrade, because I just Press esc - F9, then select "portable hard drive" boot selection, now I have to open the BIOS, enable Legacy Boot (and automatically disables the secure boot), then it boots correctly) , but I have to do this every time I turn on the computer. Is there a way to fix this? Simply, I need something to disable startup secure activation automatically at startup. Maybe an old BIOS update? I tried to take a look at downloading drivers, but I am unable to find the older versions.

I finally solved this when I noticed there was an option to disable startup change requests. This option is selectable when you disable booting safe (without activating the legacy support). Thanks for help.

This problem occurs because ASUS has helped the motherboard turn on the secure boot process, even if Windows 7 does not support this feature.

Hey guys. I just bought a new PC for the school and the HP Support Assistant program recommends an update the BIOS. Now, I know that the update is available, but I also know that you should only update in general if there is a problem as the BIOS update is risky if not done correctly.

Now since is a recommended update, I tried the update and there not twice. I don't want to keep taking chances to spoil a whole new machine just for an update which may even not been necessary in the first instance.
