  • Why some games and other programs need to be "run as Administrator" mode in 7RC which worked fine in normal mode on 7 beta and vista?

Why some games and other programs must be run in Admin mode in 7RC which worked fine in normal mode on 7 beta and vista?

An example of this is the game Guild Wars (www.guildwars.com). I had problems with this with random programs.

    cbello57,
Run as administrator may be required for some games and programs because they have a permission structure different in Vista in Windows 7 (Windows 7 and Vista are different in how to manage certain permissions).

I suggest test you installation of the game in the program by clicking on the Setup file by clicking on "Run as administrator".

This will sometimes solve this kind of situation because it installed the program in a State of high permission.

  • Help me: how to make a games record that was created for windows 2000, xp and vista on my new laptop windows 7?

    What should you change?

What game? What type of disc (CD, diskette)?

You can usually install games as you normally would. I'm trying to install a game as usual first and get back to us. There are steps to take if the normal routine does not work.

  • Not able to play the game Metro 2033 on Windows Vista-based computer.

I just installed the game Metro 2033 on my Vista system that uses a 1080 screen.  In fact, I have two identical screens.

The game requires activation Steam and Steam normally will attempt to update the program rather than simply enable it during installation.  This leaves a person in the dark as to what happens during the installation.

It turns out, I use a 3G modem that Steam refuses to support their network of Bit Torrent, so download speed for an update of a concert is around 12 kb/s or 8 hours to make the point on a program that has not yet installed.

After work, I was quite surprised to find that the program would not go on Steam.  He then took a few hours to find out that there is a solution, that I could load the game by running the executable file that had been installed in the directory Steam for Metro 2033.

Unfortunately Metro2033, when started this default way a unknown screen resolution.  Thus when the game is started from the Steam directory nested, one gets a message "out of range" on the display of 1080 and nothing can be seen.

Short of launching the game out, I tried the game again, to my great joy, the second run displays a safe mode issue and I ran it in safe mode.  It is quite an exciting game and I played it all night.  However, I had also contacted support original THQ regarding installation problem/solution.

Then I fell asleep.  The PC was on.

The next day, I played the 2003 Metro game again, but I entered in some difficult areas of the game, and I had to reload the saved game.  After awhile, I opted to exit the program.  Later, I started the program, but this time I inadvertently clicked on the Metro2033 icon who had installed Steam.   In my solution, I had pasted a link to the directory of Steam under the original icon and had pressed the wrong button.

Of course, the first thing I saw, after playing the game for 12 hours, was "out of range".  I opted to return to the office...

... However I couldn't come back on the Vista desktop.  I have a 7000, and even Microsoft Entertainment keyboard by pressing the buttons of Windows or Media center wouldn't let me come back to the office.

The day before, I needed to do this that I've experienced to workaround to start getting and I noticed that the only way I could get on the desktop to run the Task Manager to kill the out of range on my screen message has been to press the Media Center button.

Once the Media Center menu on breaking the subway 2003 menu I could then enter the office and use the Task Manager.

However, the next day when I inadvertently started the STEAM version, and again, the screen is become black and says 'Out of Range', I found that my system was stuck in this loop.  No way to get in the Manager of tasks at all, not even with the Media center button on my keyboard.

Now the background of my question.  When I was forced to start my system again, I noticed the normal BIOS screen and the bar of Vista with Vista is loading, then the familiar sound of Vista boot, but now NO SCREEN at all on startup!  Now, something had inserted a driver in my Vista start which forced my display say "Out of Range" from the start of the desktop of Vista and Vista computer has not yet noticed this.  Normally, I would think that they claim that the screen resolution is wrong and put it on, instead, nothing else than the out of range message rigid or flexible boots.

Original title: can someone tell me what happened here? Metro2033 and steam game.

I checked by plugging my second monitor.   The system has Safe Mode startup and I was able to do a restore of the system from the previous day to evening to return to the office.   However, I am quite confused as to what happened.  How the Metro 2033 problem "out of range" migrate to Windows startup by running an update of Steam?

I use the latest service pack for Vista.

It seems that the STEAM snuck in an update and then everything worked fine.

Are the games that are compatible with Vista, they are also compatible for Windows 7?

    Hello Karen W.

In large part, Yes.  I didn't fall on one that does not work on Windows 7, which was done on Windows Vista.  But by saying that I haven't met one who does not work on Windows Vista and I have a fairly large library of games.

The only thing that I actually noticied is lowest for the transition to 64-bit, where the 16-bit applications no longer works, and some games just there about 8 years ago still used 16-bit installers.

  • Halo 1 and Vista

So that the information of compatibility of Microsoft Vista Home Premium 64 - Bit tells me that Halo 1 is completely compatible, I have constant errors by trying to play online. I have found it a box "area of delay of doom" appears in the lower right of the screen (this box was running on my old computer, which had a terrible wireless card and virtually no signal). This Toshiba Satellite laptop is brand new and I tried to connect directly to the internet by cable, and it had no effect. The game is absolutely unplayable, and I can't find a reason why. Much more demanding games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare play perfectly fluently and I even tried to run 1 Halo in compatibility mode for XP SP2 with no luck. What is the disk that was used to install Halo 1? This is the only opportunity that I still look in because of the extra money that could be spent in vain if the drive is not the problem. I would have simply sent to Microsoft support. However, they seem to try either one scam by charging $59 for a conversation simple e-mail with a member of the support staff or try to dissuade us from asking questions that we run to Mac where not only they provide free technical support, but the people they hired seem to strive to make your Apple very pleasant support experience (I got in touch with them about the iPod several times)

Microsoft.com/games/Halo had a support page but no support by email of any kind. The support email link took back me to the Microsoft.com e-mail and support their attempt to scam me out of $ 59 I can't spend on support. The page known multiplayer issues did not, anyway, my problem. I will reiterate my problem:

Whenever I connect to a multiplayer game, after a short time, I start trolling at the point of the game is unplayable. My internet connection is perfectly well via laptop built in wireless. I tried to plug my computer directly to the internet by cable without effect. My ISP is Comcast Cable Internet so there is no problem of speed. My computer, via the wireless, is able to play much more demanding games such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare quite fluently and without any problem of lag. I have a problem of bandwidth when other members of the family by the use of their laptops for download; However, I tried several times to play while I was alone in the House without result. The game is absolutely unplayable and I am sad at the idea of the game is a waste of money. On my old computer, a desktop computer with free Wi - Fi and a map much less graphic, Ram and processor, Halo has played perfectly fluent. This makes me think to it's some sort of setting on 64-bit Vista that causes this error and I would like to know the opportunities available for me to try.

I asked this question already. I was told to go to microsoft.com/games/halo. The second and third paragraph was my reply to the person who directed me to this Web page and I have yet to receive any response. I felt that the repost can be a more effective way to get a real answer. I'd like to get real advice instead of being redirected to another site which ends up being a dead-end.

    Hi lieb012,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft answers Community Forums.

It is clearly a problem with the game itself and not the Internet or windows, since you can perfectly play other games. Perhaps some of the files used in this game could be damaged. It would also be that some third-party programs may interfere with the game while playing online. I need some information first

Do you get error during the game codes?

Have you tried to reinstall the game and check?

Is your computer up to date with all the latest windows updates and updates to halo?

If you see any errors I suggest you to check the event viewer for errors based on the program. The link below shows you how you can find errors related to a program or a game. Here support and online help could you suggest a few steps

    Open event viewer

    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/a99f69c1-935f-4116-ba5f-33d8800ef9da1033.mspx

I also suggest you to install all the latest updates and patches that should take care of most of the questions. You can click on the link and install v1.07 Halo Hot - Fix. The v1.07 Halo for Windows Hot - fix resolves a rare deadlock that could occur if a malicious individual (hacker) deliberately imitates a game server and sends invalid data on a server.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/games/halo/support.aspx#updates

If fails it step above, you may need to try a clean boot to see what third-party program is causing the game behind. Follow the steps below to clean boot procedures.

Click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.)

On the general tab, click Selective startup.

Under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

Click the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    Click OK.

When you are prompted, click on restart.

    Log on to your account.

    Test the game

If the problem does not reappear when your computer is in clean boot mode, a background program probably causes interference. You may need to update the program or uninstall program for this program works. You can try to determine which background program is causing the problem when the computer is in clean boot mode.

  • Games for Windows 7 and other things

Three questions. I am currently using windows 7 rc and I tried to install a game that has been relased for vista only.  When the final version comes out I will be able to install on windows 7 or should I set up my secondary hard drive with my vista just to be able to play these games? Second element is I have a media player Extender hooked into my TV and with the CR I can't play my movies of the comp at the tv will this problem be resolved?  And finally I run a proccessor QuadCore with technically five gigabytes of ram, four on the motherboard and the other on my video card and Vista, my processor speed was a 5.9, but for some reason any Windows 7, it shows as a 4.4 whats the agreement on that?  other then that like the look and have had no problems with it again and actually think go against my own style and ordering a first edition software which is something I never really have.

You should not have problems during installation and running the game on Windows 7.  As for other concerns you have, who should be resolved in the finished product and if Intel ever get the of it act together and starts to communicate with the developers of software and hardware.

I have also included a statement from one of my previous posts just for those who may be reading and the question.

Windows 7 will the have same backwards compatibility with programs that Vista has.  Which means that if the program or game is old (XP before or at the beginning) the chances are that it will not work.
Windows 7 includes some versions of virtual XP which will allow you to run old XP programs in a virtual XP machine.
If you include Virtual XP, Windows 7 will be able to run all XP software without problem.  Don't forget that you will need to have the right hardware to use virtual machines such as Virtual XP very well.

    see you soon
I have a simple philosophy: just assume everyone is a piece of _ and then be pleasantly surprised if you find someone who is not.

    Cut too, Hi

    Thanks for posting.

Flash is considered to be a product of the third-party software and is supported by the manufacturer.
However, if you want to display the error message or explain what happens when you try to use it, we usually try some troubleshooting here operations.

I recommend that you check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card by visiting the manufacturer's Web site.
I also suggest you temporarily disable your anti-virus software during the installation of the Flash software.

recently, I can't play games I always reload and my computer is always buffering! Why?

    Hello

    1. the problem occurs with a particular game or all games?

  • Windows media Center and games does not work, and does not work error message d3d8thk.dll

my media library does not work and message d3d8thk.dll isn't continuous work to come.  How should I do?

D3d8.dll error message could apply to any program that uses Microsoft DirectX, most video games.  I suggest following the steps below to solve the problem.

1 restart your computer if you have not yet.

D3d8.dll error could be a stroke of luck and a simple restart could clear up completely.

    2. install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX.  Chances are, the upgrade to the latest version of DirectX will fix the d3d8.dll not found error.

Note: Microsoft frequently publishes updates of DirectX without updating the version number or letter, so don't forget to install the latest version even if your version is technically identical.

Note: The latest version of DirectX should be installed no matter if you are running Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP.  Installation can include DirectX9 and DirectX10 files but they run side-by-side without problem on all these operating systems.

    3. assuming that the latest version of Microsoft DirectX does not correct the error of d3d8.dll you receive, search for an installer of DirectX on your game or application CD or DVD.  Usually, if a game or other program uses DirectX, software developers includes a copy of DirectX on the installation disc.

Sometimes, but not often, the DirectX version, included on the disc is a better fit for the program than the last version available online.

4 uninstall the game or software program and then reinstall it again.  Something could have happened to the files in the program work with d3d8.dll and a reinstall might do the trick.

    5. restore the file d3d8.dll since the latest DirectX software package.  If the troubleshooting steps above have not worked to resolve your error d3d8.dll, try to extract the d3d8.dll individually from the downloadable package of DirectX.

I hope the information is useful.

    Kind regards
