  Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

I duly entered the correct product key. It has been confirmed that my windows is now legal but since all I have is a blank screen. I can't find microsoft works or something to do with vista, windows Defender will not download, the initial screen comes on as usual & I have my usual shortcuts on the screen but that's all. I tried all forms of recovery, but nothing helped I feel my only solution is to install the cd that I made when I was first of all the backup computer, but I fear I can lose some of the software I installed it, everyone else has had a similar experience, I safety of bullguard.

  Hi, I currently have a problem trying to update windows. I have windows vista Home premium sp2 and today Update icon just says that windows cannot check the updates. If I select "check for updates", the system seems to be verified but nothing happens.   I have a Windows Vista Home Premium, which was very rude! It crashes just before the Welcome screen and rest like this in normal mode and last good configuration. In the three security modes, files stop loading right after C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys. The computer was purchased, everything as it came out, was super fast and since I got the Internet (LAN) on this subject, sometimes it goes really slow, refuses to boot and gets a major undetectable virus once a week only from google.com, youtube.com and Craigslist.com, which I know that Craigslist is full of virus, but whenever I go to block the program that I use freezes and crashes. I tried to boot from a disc, which it refused to boot from, even after changing the BIOS settings. Also when I use it on a date limit, she loves just freezing and crashing and threatened to get a bat with its screen. I'm not not ready to make a clean start, as I have already had to replace twice RAM and HARD drive once. The first HARD drive, we had, contained more than 3 years of photos and data, had to replace because of the Prime Minister being VERY lazy avg. Now I use avast internet security which is also slacking off the coast. Our computer does not come with a boot and repair the drive. It is not over heating and is free of dust, as I just cleaned it. The only thing that made everyone on the computer before it crashed was plants vs. zombies, Craigslist, google.com, youtube, and cars.com unless there is something I don't know. Any help would be a miracle.

  To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
  2. Press a key when you are prompted.
  3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
  4. Click repair your computer.
  5. Click the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt.
  7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

  First of all: I can't run Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.

  With that of the road, I'll try to explain my situation.  Earlier today, I ran in the hope to get rid of some unnecessary files in disk cleanup. Well, he eventually delete most everything out of my C: drive.  So I ran a restoration of the system to an earlier time.  After the restoration, I tried to connect but received a box saying that my Windows Vista Home Premium product key is not valid.  They gave me three options:

  Reduced functionality mode (does not work; see below)

  Now before to get started by offering suggestions, you need to get more information.

  I can't use the reduced functionality mode.  When I click on it, an error with file not found window appears.  The only way I can access my desktop is by going into safe mode, and I can't go in safe mode with network.  So based on this little bump in the road, I was not able to use the tips I found online, because none of those working in safe mode.

  Now there is more.  Frustrated, I tried to follow guides anyway.  So I followed the following steps:

  Step #3 game

  (1) open Internet browser

  (2) Type%windir%\system32into the browser address bar.

  (3) find the CMD.exe file

  (4) make a right click on CMD.exe and selectrun as administrator

  (5) type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, click Yes)

  (6) type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

  (7) type: Rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

  (8) type: cd %windir%\system32

  (9) Typenet start slsvc

  (10) type: cscript slmgr.vbs - FLIR (it may take time for this will be complete, please be patient)

  (11) restart twice

  Not only that not solve my problem (since I was in safe mode I was refused permission), but it has created a new problem.  Now when I start my computer normally, IM is more given three options (reduced functionality mode, enter a product key, contact HP).

  Instead, when I log on, an error pops up saying: "Insert the Windows CD or installation DVD into your computer to begin the process of resettlement." Now, my computer was shipped with windows and everything installed by the factory with the sticker on the side of the tower.  I have no Dvd or Cd.

  I've had this computer for almost 3 years and I can not lose what I have on my computer. I have a genuine copy of Windows.  I have no idea what I'm supposed to do now.

  I'm having a problem turning on my laptop.  Sometimes it starts very well but most of the time it doesn't.

  It will be the first bit so "Windows" rises and it seems to start loading and the screen goes black and does nothing, then just like that.  Sometimes it will finish early and take me to the home screen, if I held down the power button for a while (which is always different) and other times it doesn't.  I then turn off with power button.  The next time I have try it says it cannot start if the system fix and then once on the home screen I have to refresh my virus program and do a full scan.  This happens every time!

  If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

  Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
