I followed the suggestion to use start > Control Panel > administration tool > services > print spooler > properties.
System in automatic mode but State of the said service stopped.
I get error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
Printer worked this AM, but stopped working between two print jobs.
I used Mr. Fixit to diagnose and fix the problem. Mr. Fixit indicates the print spooler service is not running, but cannot fix it.
Is there a source code for Windows XP service pack 3 which can be downloaded to replace the corrupted code?
Thanks for your help
Robear:
I'll be back of the travel. I'm after the suggestion of CARI. Seems to be the right track.
My print spooler system component is missing from the remote procedure call. If I restore it, I think that the print spooler is reactive. Suggestions of curry hit Start, Program Files, accessories and they type net start spooler. However, after the departure, I don't see any Program Files, so am unable to complete the suggested path.

When I click with the right button on a particular printer and try to view the properties of it, I get the following message:
Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running
It is, it is run as go to-> Services administrative tools in the Control Panel checks.
One of the 'printers', I installed is "send to OneNote 2007". I can click right on this very well - just not this another printer. I'd be able to do if the print spooler is not running?
Indeed, if I turn off the print spooler, * all * printer in "Printers and faxes" disappear. So the fact that I'm still see them first place suggests to me that the printer spooler is running.
I posted this on Microsoft.public.windowsxp.general a while ago and someone suggested that I visit this site . Problem is C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS is empty. It is empty when the print spooler is running and it is empty when it is not.
Also, I was unable to install KB896423 since I am running SP3. Try to install he did the following:
Setup has detected that the version of Service Pack for this system is newer than the update you are applying.
There is no need to install this update.
The printer is a "local printer attached to this computer" connected via a "Standard TCP/IP Port". Personally, I think such a printer should be called "a network printer or a printer attached to another computer", but that is the terminology used by the "Add Printer Wizard".
Hello terrafrost,.
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers community.
What is the model number of the printer that you are using?
Printing a "Standard TCP/IP Port, is used for a printer that is directly connected to a network, not on your local system.
I would try to uninstall your printer and reinstall your printer.
Hope this helps Chris.H

The print spooler service is not running
I had a virus that I got rid of but now my printer does not print, it comes up with "the print spooler service is not running" and I can't add a printer. What should I do to solve this problem.
It's pretty easy to start the print spooler service... but may not stay started.
To restart the print spooler:
- Click Start, click Run, and then type services.msc in the run box, and then click OK
- Scroll down the list until you get to the print spooler and double-click the entry
- Make sure that the "Startup Type" is "automatic".
- Click on the button 'Start '.
- OK your way out
In the likely case where this isn't a solution permanent for you, when you post, include the following information:
- What version of Windows you have, including the service pack (start > run > winver > OK)
- What make and model of printer you have
- What antivirus you have installed
- If your computer was without an antivirus application or current subscription for your antivirus (in other words, how is it you got infected in the first place)
- What steps you have taken to determine that your system is now free of malware (i.e. what applications antivirus and antimalware you scanned the system with)

How can I fix the error message "the print spooler service does not work."?
All printer drivers that I had loaded do not work or have disappeared. After you download the printer drivers, I got the error message: "operation could not be performed. The print spooler service is not running. "I have Windows XP. I need to print now!
To start the print spooler service, click Start > all programs > Accessories > run. In the run box type in services.msc. In the Windows Services window right-click on print spooler and select open. You will then see the options "Start automatically", and then on the button 'Start Service'. Click on those and then click apply then OK. Who should start the print spooler service, however, if you get an error message, see the link below for more information.

Often, but not always, the symptoms you describe are caused by a corrupt print job stuck in the queue or a damaged printer driver. However before you clean things up, on general principles, that you can download, install, update and run full scans with each of these two free programs:
AntiMailware MalwareBytes
SUPERAntiSpywareDo not operate the two scans simultaneously. Each will take a long time, so start it and then go do something else for a while.
Cleaning of printers
NOTE: If after completing step has the print spooler is not always running after you launched the command "net start spooler", you will not be able to follow all the steps in "First Article". Instead, go to the other link and download and get and use the utility 'cleanspl' such as described here.
A. Clean on print jobs pending
- Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
- Type the following in the black command prompt window, and then press ENTER after each line
net stop spooler
del/q '% windir%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\*.* '.
net start spooler
outputB. clean the old printer drivers and install the latest drivers by using the directions in One Article. If you have (or had) a Lexmark printer, follow the instructions on the following site before installing the new drivers, as explained in its first Article: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

When you try to add a printer, get error Printer Spooler service is not running
I lost my printer and when I click Add printer, I get the message of this operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running. Then, the computer detects the new hardware and says the RPC server is unavailable can help?
Check the status of 'Print spooler' & RPC (remote Procedure Call) services in the services window. You can check the link below to change the status of the services.
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736564%28WS.10%29.aspx
After the services start, delete all previous printers. Uninstall the drivers and then try to reinstall the printer again.
If the problem still persists to the print spooler, you can import the registry across the entry below machine & merge the machine to issue:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler
Also check out the link for your RPC unavailable problem:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/242079Now, try to restart the print spooler new service & try to install the printer.
Note: instead of copying files from another machine you can also run the SFC/scannow.

Printer Spooler service is not running.
I can't find or add a printer. Message says that the Printer Spooler service is not running. I made sure that the service has been started and drivers set to date but still get the message whenever I have select Add a printer. No printer icon appear. XP
Gerry,
Thanks for your reply. Just before I got your e-mail, I found this linkhttp://forums.techguy.org/Windows-XP/998760-solved-print-spooler-keeps-stopping.html
I did as suggested that removed a file in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\PRINT\
and indeed it has worked.
Again, thanks for taking your time to look into my problem.

Hello
The main problem is caused by corrupted printer drivers, you will need to check with your printer manufacturer for
Download the latest drivers (just re - install the old ones will probably lead to this error). Make sure that you

Original title: my laptop has lost all printers and windows & no longer recognizes them. Help! I can't print anything
I use my laptop computer in a docking station. I took it out to take for a trip and when I got home I plugged it back (as I always do). Just before the trip, I have upgraded to Windows 7 and all my printers were working very well. When I got home and pluged again, Windows does not recognize one of my printers. When I try to add printers a say8ing error message "Windows can't open add printer." The local print spooler service is not running. Please restat the spooler or restart the machine. "I tried to restart and turn off the printer, etc. Can someone help me?
Hi RobynGP,This may occur if the print spooler requires other services, and these services are not running. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:1. in Services, right-click on print spooler and then click Properties.
2. click the Dependencies tab. The first box list all system services that must work for the print spooler start. These are dependencies.
3 make a note of each service, click OK, and restart each service on which the print spooler is dependent, if the service is not already started. If a service is not started, right-click, click Properties, and then make sure that the startup type is automatic.Let us know if this helped.

Hello
After upgrading to windows 7 Home premium 64 bit vista family premium 64-bit, I expected to be able to connect my EPSON Stylus D68 printer on my laptop and leave immediately. However, when I tried to do this installation constantly failed. Therefore, I went to the manual add the printer option in the menu devices and printers. However I met this error message: "Windows cannot add a printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spoiler or restart the machine,"after reviewing the existing forums on the issue, I tried to restart the services option. However, the restart option has been obscured and when I just tried to start then I met an other error message: "windows could not start the spooler on the local computer service, error 1053: service has failed to demand launch or control in a timely. more when I click Properties to the spooler in the description it says failure to read the description. error code: 1813. This is all very frustrating for someone who just wants to add a printer to his laptop computer. can someone please? because I am all of these ideas.
