Ghost router?

I have a really strange question, sometimes, when I look at 'my network' on my computer running 7. I see a ghost router which is not actually on my network.  the router is Linksys WRT160N, here is a link for someone who has the same problem: http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/896512-phantom-router-appearing-in-win7-network/

Is it possible to remove this from my network, even if it is not physically connected? This problem bothers me just because I like to maintain an organised network and I would like to know what features are in my network so I can maximize safety.  This router just "ghost" appears, then disappears randomly.  Please help it's driving me crazy.  Thank you.

This ghost router is one close to you who is WCN/compatible WPS.
a router).

This means that one of your neighbors probably bought a new router and does not
secure and he is in default without settings/security condition, ready to
installation program that can be done wireless. Or, someone has one of these routers, set it
upward and the router has a bug or they did not manually turn off the function in the
router.

It's annoying, but as long as YOUR network is secured, you're ok.

After a power outage, my internet wouldn't work.  When I open Airport utility it showed 2 apple Airport time capsule connected.  One was my Airport, the other was named glaDOS and the Visual was a former model.  The only way to get any wifi is to put my router in Bridge mode.  I called the Apple support that stepped me through a hard reset and other things, but without success.  I decided that the router was probably scrambled over the power surge when the power came back and went to BestBuy bought a new time Capsule.  When I plugged it in, glaDOS is still there!

Any ideas where this ghost router can originate from?  I live on a surface and the nearest neighbor is a 1/4 mile away.  I have checked my cable modem to the router and do not see anything extraordinary.

Your Internet service provider uses what is called a "Shared" connection and frankly, crop. The storm may have messed up some things on the network of Internet service providers, so hopefully they will wake up service and running properly soon.

Technically, you're on the same network with the owner of glaDOS. By this, I mean that people where glaDOS can 'see' your Time Capsule when / if they open AirPort Utility on one of their Mac, just as you can see their time Capsule.

You will not be able to change the settings on glaDOS and people where glaDOS will not be able to change the settings on your Time Capsule, assuming you used a password with your Time Capsule.

Give the service provider of a few days to get things up and running properly. If the thing is not fixed in a week or two, you will need to give them a call and let them know that they do not provide the service that was promised.

If you could Time Capsule works in a router Mode of DHCP and NAT instead of Bridge Mode, which would isolate other people, but it seems that the Apple support staff tried to do, and it wouldn't work... again probably because things are not just with the ISP at the moment network.

  • Using Netgear WiFi Analytics App, it shows R7000 and ghost "Netgear33-arlo_247000".

When I use several other phone WiFi apps to scan my network, I get the appropriate SSID (standard, standard 5G, 5G of comments, comments) my Nighthawk R7000 router with each corresponding MAC address SSID. However the applications also show a ghost THAT SSID named "Netgear33-arlo_247000" with a MAC address, which is a different character. Same strength, same channel R7000, but the area of the seller is empty display. I have no close neighbours. Clues?

  • Cannot install itunes. Older version of apple software update is a ghost file.

I had itunes on our laptop a few years ago and uninstalled through the normal route of the program uninstall Windows 7 a few years back.  Now I am trying to reinstall itunes and it comes up with the error "failed to remove the older version of Apple software update Contact your technical support group. "When I go in uninstall programs it shows"Apple Software Update"but when I click on uninstall, it says:"the configuration data for this product are damaged. Please contact the support staff. "When I search the file it's no-do. It is a ghost file.  Deleted, but still think it's there.  I tried to run "from the mistakes of audit" on the disc. I tried using Unlocker that does not show the program, says it removed and it is in the trash but still the same error. I contacted Microsoft and she ran at a command prompt to check for problems, (I do not remember the guest, she used) but also, it does not work.  How can I get rid of this ghost file?

There are two former programs that show in uninstall program - one is called Apple Application Support and the other is updated to Apple, both installed software on 31/03/2012.

For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Try the tool MS difficulty under the second box to see if that can see and remove ASU. Otherwise, delete all other components and install everything except ASU proceeding to install missing components. iTunes didn't need ASU to work.

Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

More information area has direct links with the current and recent buildings if you have problems to download, must revert to an older version or want to try the version of iTunes for Windows (64-bit-for old video cards) as a workaround for problems with installation or operation, or compatibility with QuickTime software or a third party.

Backups of your library and device should be affected by these measures but there are links to backup and recovery advice there.

  • Ghost of SSID wireless

I post a picture of Inssider 3, but I can't find the info to do it.  I have a schooner SSID exactly as my named SSID.  It has the same signal strength, data download.  The only difference is the Mac address.  The SSID legit begins with C8 and ends with 51.  The mac address of ghosts begins with CA and ends with 53.  All the intermediate characters are the same.  I have deleted profiles, etc., but couldn't find what is the cause.  Someone has an idea?  Everything seems to work very well.  I unplugged my router gateway, so I know it's from my main router.

One thing that might be a clue: I recently did a reset on my main router and was a typo in the name of the SSID.  Later, I changed the SSID of the router WiFI Smart.  I had deleted the wrong profile using back.  However, in the case of Smart WIFI, I saw that the wrong SSID in the list of devices.  I edited and changed, but cannot delete from there.  He also appeared in the Manager devices to display network infrastructure devices.  I continue to remove it, but it comes back.  Do I have to reset my router again?

Forget the network does not work in Windows 8. I guess that is your problem and you can safely ignore it.

Another possibility is that someone created an Ad - Hoc network, but you can always ignore it and not connect to it.

  • Cable PC intervention user for the login information for wireless router

It doesn't look good as I am typing, but I have recently installed a RE1000, which seemed to work fine. Then, on 3 PC's with no wireless card installed, we started to be prompted for the user name and password for the wireless router. Once I unplugged to extension, the problem disappeared. I know what you're thinking: maybe I just think that there is no wireless network on the PC card. NO, I looked in the Device Manager, and the only one network adapter installed is the ethernet adapter. Here are all the machines of 4 years and over with no hardware changes made these. Wireless adapters are not necessarily standard issue on old tricks - even on new towers. The Acer I use now was purchased new in November 2011 and did not come with a wireless card installed. So, I don't know what to think. Ghosts?

Well, the answer was watching me in the face: each of these has a wi - fi enabled printer PC attached via the port USB. Disable WiFi on printer, requests for user name wi - fi router and stop PW.

    I was expecting ghosts.

  • Amplifier not displayed in the list of the router network devices

My amplifier seems to work properly, the blue lights and signal improved in dead zone.  However, I noticed in watching my network equipment, the settings of the router it does not list anything that it is located at 192.168.1.240.  I was wondering why this would be when the expander control works correctly?  The router does not show it as a connected device?

    Thank you.

I don't worry about this. Mine is not no more. I guess because it is set up as the router as a Repeater that is somewhat like a "ghost". I know it's there because I can ping and access to 192.168.1.240 in the browser. If you wish, you can download the LELA network management software. That he will come.

  • Ghosts on pages double-sided printing second on Officejet 6700 Premium e-all-in-one

    Please can someone help?

Printer name model e-all-in-one Officejet 6700 Premium

    Firmware MPM3CN1232AR

    Software 028.000.1315.000

    Driver 09.84.00.1173

    Win 7 SP1 64 bit

    Wired ethernet connection

    Problem

On two-sided printing, the second side of printing on all pages is ghost. This is in particular the noticebale on verticals.

This is true for all the qualities of printing on any documents .pdf or. doc.

I use all the HP printing paper and original cartridges.

I aligned the print head and checks suggested on the help pages.

I contacted HP support, which were brilliant and replaced the printer and the duplex unit.

They suggested that it was because I was using Office 2003 SP3 and Windows 7 but I find this problem on too but not in Wordpad v6.1 .pdf files

The problem does not occur when scanned or copied documents are printed

Is there a solution out there on this new printer please?

    Hi 007OHMSS,

I carefully read through a VionAiry pointer to the post of ItalSanif with links to more articles.

There were two main suggestions as to how to proceed. I didn't uninstall the "bloatware" and back to base for the HP Officejet 6700 Premium drivers, but I installed the drivers from the series HP Deskjet 6980 in accordance with the procedure at this link http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Issues-Troubleshooting/HP-7510-Duplex-Problem-y-axis-scaling/td-p/1754773 and listed below, with a few mods to include activation of unit duplex in one set of instructions.

And you know what? This MARKET! Ghosting on the second side of all pages printed double-sided disappears to be replaced with a nice crisp clear impression. At present, all the other functions, including scanning seem not affected and function as usual, although of course the new driver (HP Deskjet 6980 series) makes the leaves of different properties.

In my environment, I have also 3 XP machines in network connected wireless to the printer via the router and the PC Win7x64 connected by ethernet to the same router. Meant this download and the installation of the driver HP driver the HP Deskjet 6980 series for the XP PC Web page not the Win 7 x 64 because they were not present.

I modified a bit routine and reproduce it below to help others. A/c for the original post, that was provided by the HP Technical Support. Why nobody's support services seems to know about or drivers have not been fixed I would never know.

First turn off you will want the printer already available on the computer before you continue.

For Win7 PC (XP is similar but not identical)

    1. Go to Start -online device and printers => then click on the "Add a printer" button in the upper left corner of the device window.
    2. Click on the button "Add a local printer" (choose this option if you do not your configuration)
    3. Check the box "use an existing port.
    4. On the drop-down list, select the option for example CN115130TP05JW , but use the correct name for the PRINTER port which is the serial number of your printer (do not use the fax entry)
    5. Now in manufacture of list on the left, select "HP".
    6. On the list of Printers to the right, select "HP Deskjet 6980 series (HP)" "
    7. "Once the pilot moved to enter in the" 'devices and printers ' window and right-click the newly added "HP Deskjet 6980 series" and select ""printer properties ' on the drop-down list. "
    8. Go to the "Advanced" tab, and then in the drop-down list next to the label of "Driver" select "HP Deskjet 6980 series.
    9. Click on the button 'Apply' - the configuration window should change it's shapea bit.

      10. in the HP Deskjet 6980 window properties, click on the tab "device settings" on the top of the window.

      11. in the list of parameters, search for "Unit duplex (for printing on 2 sides) ' and select it.

      12. once highlighted, select in the drop-down list ""Installed "; "

      13. When finished press apply

14 now, go to what you use to print documents and select "HP Deskjet 6980" as your printer. Activate duplex printing and you should see the pages to print correctly.

    15. you can also change the name of the printer in the "Général" tab I changed it in mine to "HP Officejet 6700 with HP Deskjet 6980 pilot set shadowd duplex printing".

I had a little problem in that, for some reason any in the document (e.g. Word / etc\ .pdf) box under the effects tab my radio button has mysteriously been on 20% until I changed it it was hard to see that there was no ghosting dialogue printer properties.

So after complete 1 reconstruction of the printer of the original with the parts sent to HP services support for November 2012, an escalation at magnifications greater within HP (no answer) and a new printer of A...n, VisionAiry has pointed me to a solution that I had tried with DJ 450 drivers, nothing works, after a Shane_R post dated last year.

So thanks to you and also to 007OHMSS who worked on this problem and original posters

All I can say is that it worked for me and I am so grateful to everyone on this forum to ensure that I am sure of my eyes and mental health, looking more printed duplex printed with a shadow/ghosts and to be what they were not prepared.

Congratulations so all round and thanks again

  • Group residential ghost

I had trouble connecting my computers thanks to the homegroup, I decided to delete the Group and create one with the pc on the other, the old people, but he still sees the old homegroup that does not exist!

I tried to restart the pc, stop waiting and then restart and a complete reboot of the network (modem and router).  Any other suggestions on how to get rid of this group residential ghost?

Your windows 7 PC will have to be in a "task force" or "Work network", using the same name as the "old PC". The old systems cannot be members of a homegroup on 7.

Why can't connect to a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows XP for my homegroup.url

    G ' day mate

well without having a look at the config and "debug crypto isakmp" out I cannot guess, but it seems like a reasonable explanation that someone is trying to build a tunnel for you (but failing - note session state).

This could be a configuration problem (i.e. someone knocked on your ip address on the router/vpnclient by mistake) or it can be caused by a person for malicious purposes (i.e. probe your IP for open ports, or survey an expanded address space to find systems with UDP500 open, or maybe someone is trying to back talk to you).

    You could:

-try to find out who ows the IP mentioned in the ' Peer: * "on the ground and the contact with them to see what is happening.

-apply an ACL on your external interface that falls all UDP500 except when coming from legitimate L2L counterpart (assuming you have only this tunnel L2L, no legitimate clients connecting to you). Or for more options fantasies, have a look here:

  • Tips to add a VPN router to my current network configuration

    Dear all

My apologies if the answer to this question already exists, however, I searched in many situations and none seem to match what I'm after.

I currently have an ISP modem/router in Bridge mode connected to a TC of Apple which is my wireless router, I have 2 Express airport connected to this acting as the extensors of the range.  I have a VPN service through the MyPrivate network I activate on the desired device when required and everything works fine.

What I want to do now is to be able to use my AppleTV and burning Amazon via the VPN as well so you need to add a VPN router in the configuration.  I want to finish with 2 wireless networks running together for these devices who need VPN and those who are not.  I don't want to lose the opportunity to extend the network to express it however airport.

If someone could explain to me if this is possible and if so how do I set up the network.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

Basically you would need a device that supports VPN-passthrough and VLANS for your goals of networking. MyPrivate network, seems to be a VPN SSL, which is a user-server configuration. In other words, you install a client VPN on your Mac and you connect to the VPN network MyPrivate server to establish a VPN tunnel.

Networking two or more "separated", should be using a router that supports VLAN services. Each segment of VIRTUAL local area network, in essence, would be a separate, she either wired or wireless network or a combination of both. This would probably be the 'easiest' part for the installation program.

Now how combining the two would be the question, and I don't know what would be the best way, or even if it is possible.

    A few thoughts:

    • Use a router that supports VLANS. Create at least two VIRTUAL LAN segments. One for Apple TV & Burns, one for Internet access in general. Connect the device to VPN client host on the first segment, and configure for Internet sharing.
    • Download a dedicated VPN network application that supports hosting of third-party VPN clients, like yours. You would still need a router that supports VLAN to provided separate network segments.
    • Hire a consultant network. Let them know what you the goals of networking and ask them to offer potential solutions.
  • Time Capsule as a router

Instead of the cable company router, can I use my time capsule to be a router?

The time Capsule can function as a router, but not a modem. If what you provided your cable provider is a simple modem, then the time Capsule will work. However, if they actually you provided a combination modem and the router, also known as a gateway device, then it wouldn t.
