Gift T61s without an operating system

I got Lenovo 9, T61s as a gift to our school. They have no operating system installed. What operating system options do I have? The sticker on them is XP Professional. Please notify.

You can buy a set of Lenovo recovery disks, you can use with your ThinkPad T61.

I'll buy a kit of barebones without preinstalled operating system and was wondering if I could use my Windows 7 upgrade disk to install Windows on the new PC.

    Short answer 'NO '.

Upgrade means upgrade. An upgrade can only be used to upgrade a previous version of XP or Vista. You will need to purchase a full retail or OEM version to install on a computer without an operating system.

  • T61 HDD no operating system validates

I work at a major University (Paris is) and got a professional T61 6466 - 5DG. It was untouched since November 2007 because I was very happy with my T42 unfortunately struck by lightning through the telephone network. The T61 has been implemented under XP Lenovo in September 2010. I had 2 or 3 times a month a blue screen with something like "attempt to write to the memory. Victory to protect your system has stopped... Reboot... "and I did not like (I tried to build a personal network). "I received last week after the start of"HARD disk not initialized", I restarted and still last Friday the same on a blue screen dark after the Lenovo logo page, but it was the end: the T61 starts an Intel startup routine and said: valid no operating system on the HARD drive. The HARD drive is a Seagate Momentus ST9120822AS 5400-3 (ASM P/N 42 T 1306 and 42 T 1307 FRU). Connected trough is a USB adapter is only seen under XP in Device Manager and is "not initialized". A recovery tool to rebuild the file system (and I could copy the my important Documents) but lacked the FAT32 partition hidden (seen by the same tool on the drive HARD internal to an another T61 6466 - 5DG of a colleague). HARD drive through the Seagate Seatools long generic test and I am more than puzzled. Of course, I did not burn the DVD from the hidden partition: with a new labtop...

We got in my T61 University many of the same brand and I checked 4: it's the same HDD Seagate and I found on the Web talks of early failures of Seagate Barracuda AND Momentus HDD. His colleagues are not afraid (IBM/Lenovo has been chosen on my suggestion for its reliability: I got the family 380 without any problem). Can you help me?

Apparently there was a big bug in the software of these hard drives: Seagate explained they just sell the discs as OEM and software disk has been mounted by Lenovo. On the Lenovo support site, there is a software update for the discs. If it can help someone...

  • Laptop computer without an operating system

    Hello!

I have a problem with my laptop. He informed that I don't have an operating system installed. Where can I see my hard drive?

    Hi Jack,

I assume that your error message appears when you try to boot your system, in which case it would seem that you master boot record is damaged on your hard drive.

You can, of course to restore your system from your recovery CD, but that it will return to its original state, and you will lose your data, unless your drive has been partitioned.

If you want to access your data on your hard drive you will need to a CD (or bootable FDD) that will get you access to attempt to recover your HARD drive.

  • Have a PC desktop, Compaq Presario 5WV270 without an operating system. I need XP Pro for this device.

Running the software of HAM that requires WIN XP Pro SP3 32.  My understanding of several years that these units need their own flavor of Microsoft operating systems.  Where can I find a decent XP Pro?

    K1ger, welcome to the forum.

Here is the product to the computer specification page:

The original operating system was Windows Millennium.  Windows XP requires a minimum of 1 GB of memory to operate properly.  The motherboard supports a maximum of 768 MB memory.  Therefore, I do not recommend installing XP.  A new computer may be your best option.

  • I bought a dell inspiron 1440 without any operating system. What should I install first, the dell drivers or windows vista?

I use the windows vista installation disc supplied with my previous pc. I tried to do a clean install, inserted the disc into the cd/dvd drive. No installation window. The screen says "windows loading files..." After a few hours, the display shows something like

"" windows has not... error: file boot32.exe is corrupt or not found. "."

Then the Dell XP disc is great to use. However, do not install an operating system is usually caused by (in order of probability):

    1. you are trying to install with other devices connected to the computer. Unplug them before trying to make an installation.

    2. "" "" defective installation media. "" Check the CD/DVD installation for scratches, tasks. Try another machine.

    3. bad optical drive. Test with another CD/DVD bootable or Exchange for a well-known work.

    4. faulty RAM. Test with Memtest86 + www.memtest.org . You will download the .iso image file to create a bootable cd. Burn the file with the third party burning software *-as an image, not in the form of data. Then start with the media that you did (you may need to change the boot priority in your BIOS so that the optical drive is the first boot device). The test runs immediately. The test run for an hour or two--at least that errors are seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the RAM.

    * It is not necessary to have a third party burning software in Windows 7 since Win7 natively allows to burn an .iso. Other operating systems require it. A good free choice ImgBurn comes from www.imgburn.com .

    5. bad hard drive. Test with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr... You create a bootable CD with the files you download. Burn the file with a third-party burning software (unless you have Windows 7, that allows to record the .isos natively) - as an image, not in the form of data. Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.

    6. other hardware components are faulty.

Then you unfortunately discovered why the phone was for sale.

  • How to increase disk space without guest operating system reinstallation

    Hello

I take advantage of VMWARE with linux host and vista 64 comments, but I encountered a problem, running out of disk space.

During the installation of VISTA, I chose 25 GB of disk space, as recommneded by IG of installation).

    Now I need more space.

According to the virtual disk manager, I did

    VMware-vdiskmanager mydisk.vmdk 40 GB - x

increase to 40 GB. It seemed to work, as I received a message,

    "Disk expansion completed successfully."

Now "The VM setting" windows says HD 40 GB. But internally under VISTA, disk space is always 25 GB. In fact, the size of disk file (view on the side of linux) is only 22 GB. No idea how to increase disk space. He must start from the installation, but it's a little painful.

    Thank you.

If the guest is Vista or Windows 2008, then you should be able to extend the partition while the system is running.

Take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 won't let you do that, while the disk is online.  Vista and Windows 2008 changed things.

For versions of Windows Vista/2008, look for the Dell ExtPart.exe utility, as it will do the job for you.

    See you soon,.

Hi there I got an old computer at school (rm1) he was completely wiped out and needs to be rebuilt. I just need to buy and put windows? Or is there anything else to do?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
If it's a look OEM type (such as HP, Dell, Acer, etc) for the certificate of the label of authenticity (COA) anywhere on your body. If you can find the label, look for the version of Windows and the edition, and in this case, you can use the key to activate Windows of the same version and edition. But if you want to go for any advanced version than the one mentioned, you can buy a new copy. You can use the respective version and edition of Windows disk from a friend to activate using the key of COA.

  • How to install the upgrade after you have uninstalled infected by operating system

A Trojan horse virus disabled by Vista operating system on a Dell computer. I don't have a return to the top of it. I have XP Pro OS upgrade purchased Ms Looks like I have to uninstall my current Vista operating system. Is there a way I can install my XP without an operating system on the disk hard once I uninstalled?

I suspect that Dell provides you with a hidden partition to reinstall Vista. Read the documentation that came with the machine.

  • recovery system option - not found any operating system, load drivers

Hi, Im new here ^^ I am here to ask a question, he made me feel confused. I bought a laptop last year, which is (Acer Aspire 4930 G). Today morning when I turn on my laptop, it showed me all of a sudden

    PXE - 61 - test Media Failed
No bootable devices - insert the boot CD and press a key

I made impossible the network startup and test media is fixed. After that, I started using VISTA HOME PREMIUM recover CD and tried to fix my computer, but it seems to do the job.  These are the problems that I met

    1. once I click on "Repair my computer", it pop up a "system recovery option" forms but the operating system has not appeared and he asked me to load the drivers (not sure it takes load 1)

    2. If I continue without the operating system and I clicked on the "Startup Repair", it shows me that "cannot automatically repair withouth', is m felt confused.

    3. If I click on the "System Restore", it doesn't seem to work too.

May I ask... How can I recover / find my operating system? and how can I solved the problem I've met? Is to make fuzzy m
