Giving copies of OEM CD away

Someone I know just got a free obsolete computer they're working that apparently wasn't going to be scrapped, but was offered to employees. Hard drive of the computer had been a DoD cleaning and had no BONES. However, the computer had a sticker of CA with a product key for the version of XP OEM (now I need to remind him and ask what home or pro version).

Is there any reason why I can't make him a copy of the OEM installation CD and let him use the product key on the computer to reinstall the operating system on this computer of opportunity?

If the answer is different for home or pro, please specify. Yes, I know not for corresponding versions, I'm just a question about the transfer of the license in this way. I have copies of these two CDs, and I'll give him that right.

The OEM product key is related to the first computer on which it is installed. If you plan to reinstall it on the same computer, there should be no problem except, you may need to activate by phone.  The version of XP (Home, professional or Media center) should be on the certificate of authenticity.

  • install two copies of windows oem on the same computer

Installation of two separate copies of OEM windows 7 on the same computer (an ultimate, a home premium, the two 64 bit) the problem is that I can't hide (do it completely unavailable - mask not only) the first installed OS of each from the second partition (identified as "oem partition") when it is started in the second operating system.

I would like to do to use the ultimate as a main working OS operating system (be able to load up with various applications, databases of workers etc. etc., that once everything is loaded tends to emphasize the system a little (it does not as effectively as I would like).) I would then use the partition Home premium for latency sensitive things. boot between the two and other work is managed by linux (grub 2)

the disks are defined as readers of ahci uefi (couple of ssd for boot/apps/pagefile)

Is it still possible? (even with me having to buy the commercial versions of the os (non - oem), or microsoft is trying to wrest a sort of copy protection scheme

the two disks (main) are set up as follows
/ dev/sda1 to fat32 (for gpt disks) startup (resized to 500 MB of 128)
/ dev/sda2 unknown ms reserved (this is set here as part of microsofts uefi partitioning installation sequence)
/ dev/sda3 ntfs first installation (7 ultimate) operating system

dev/sdb1 unknown ms reserved (see above)
dev/sdb2 ntfs second os install - he actually complains during installation that it cannot install on the partition, but he does it anyway

Thanks in advance for any help

I forgot to add the second installed operating system know the partition indicator 'hide '.

Microsoft has never designed a version of Windows that can hide another version of Windows.  You will need to use a boot improved as Manager:

  • Windows serial key does not work!

    Hello

I bought a Sony Vaio laptop in 2006 until very recently it has stopped working, however it came loaded with Windows XP Professional. I bought this laptop in the Japan and is an international Version.
Now, I would like to use the Windows XP Professional in my spare pc, now I live in the United Kingdom and borrowed a copy of Windows XP, I noticed that the serial key is not recognized.
I went on the manufacturers Web site and they do only not naked recovery disks of operating systems, I went also to the microsoft article:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246/en-GB
but again demand $30 for the CD to ship.
Can you please tell where I can find the correct version of Windows XP to download?
    Kind regards
    Zak

Copies of OEM Windows (for example, these pre-nstaled in laptop computers) CANNOT be used for any computer on which they were first installed.

You will need to purchase a new Windows license, or use the good recovery media for the computer you are trying to install.

This is a known bug 'Dumb MS' and very simple to fix. It is simply that the installer wants to put a bit of a music (the standard windows sound) file in a particular place, and the directory does not exist on some copies of OEM Windows XP home.

You just need to create the folder he wants before rerunning the SP3 update. Not at the moment, I can't find a link to the exact thing, but if these directories do not exist, create them. You must be logged on as administrator user to do this.

The file beethoven.wma wants to be in the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Shared Music".
    OR maybe "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\Sample sounds\" on XP-Home Edition

However, the "All Users" directory down may be missing or not have NO defined permissions.
To fix it, right-click on "All Users" and click the option 'security '.

  • is it possible to load Windows XP Home edition on VISTA installed on a laptop?

Hello!.. My son bought a laptop preloaded using widows vista sp2.  We are more familiar with WXP & would like to know if there is a way we can load from an installation disc. at the present time, we receive an error message "NTLDR is missing press c + a + d to restart", but it is not & cannot fix it because we do not have a vista disc.

any help is appreciated... Thank you!   :)

You can order recovery of the computer disks laptop manufacturer or a third party such as Recovery - Disks.com for a small fee.  The problem with installing XP on the laptop, it's that the manufacturer may not have written the device drivers for XP.  You will need to check the Web site.

If the copy of XP is the one that came with another computer, you can not use it on the laptop in all cases.  Copies of OEM Windows are not transferable to another computer.

You don't give enough details on the brand and model of the laptop or the XP "installation disk" to give a more detailed response.

You can also use in the Vista system repair and recovery forum in the

  • Windows 7 Home Premium product key

    Hello!

I need a Windows 7 Home Premium product key and I can't find a link to buy one on the website that all the posts I see on it is from the victory before 10 days. I have an OEM drive that is installed on another computer, but instead to wait 2 days to get a new disk key / Amazon, I was hoping there was a way to purchase JUST the key on the website somewhere.

    Thank you!

Get the product Amazon OEM (stay away from eBay, too many pirates), take the wait and play safe!

Make sure you buy the media AND key, make sure it's the correct bit (32 or 64 bit) and purchased Amazon media can perform the installation.

  • Activation of Windows 7 - How lame am I?

Where to start with this whole terrible farce...

About six years ago, I got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. It rained a little. A friend helped me later exchanging the hard drive for an SSD to operate even more pleasant.

A year ago, this laptop has melted its motherboard. A repairman has helped me to recover the files and install the HDD in the shell of a used laptop from a similar model, and it worked well again.

Then came the big 10 Windows upgrade-a-thon. I was quite happy with Win10, until just a month ago, when a required update bricked the thing. It would start up, go through the login screen and then the monitor would go black and the computer wouldn't do anything. Even attempted hard - reset would put it just in "standby mode".

A friend ended up having to recover my files again before you wipe the drive and reinstall 7. The problem is, I have no idea what to do for the activation code. The original laptop is recycled probably at this stage, the current has a label with all the ink dispelled. Reinstall drive did not have a code above anywhere, and when I click on 'buy a new online activation code' he sent me just a "buy the full version of the page 10" of Windows. (Meanwhile, my desktop computer made the switch to Windows 10 quite easily, but was not able to update properly for about six months.)

I don't know what to do at this point. I'm just very tired and want to be able to use my computer without getting hassled every hour with another window yell at me for something that's not even my fault.

OEM Windows licenses are tied to the computer, they were initially installed on, they cannot be transferred to another computer (motherboard).

When Windows comes pre-installed on the computer it would have a button assigned to the manufacturer as part of the installation image. If you create this computer recovery discs you need not the key when reinstalling Windows. However no doubt your friend reinstalled windows a standard DVD/USB key. These require a key to enter, but the key to the manufacturer will not work.

Without the key of the label or the original recovery disks, you have no other choice than to buy a new license. Because Windows 7 is now on extended support all Windows 7 official sources have been removed, although some providers online are still copies available OEM. Don't consider NOT touch only purchases such as those who are most suspect it.

Because you had 10 Windows installed and running before your computer was issued a licence of digital rights. You do not have to reinstall Windows 7, you can go to a clean install of Windows 10 directly.

This article will allow you to download Windows media 10. Run the installation directly when it gets to the point to enter a key to use the option enter a key later. Once the installation is complete, it will retrieve the digital rights license, with which it was previously issued.

  • Alienware aurora lost r4 Windows 7 DVD

Hello world. When I got my pc I also have the DVD of Windows 7 Home premium.  I lost my DVD of windows 7 and now I can't format my PC. But I have the number of the Windows key! What should I do? Thank you for helping me.

    Amiram

If you have not indeed a Dell warranty, Dell will not replace the DVD.

There are DVDs of copy of Dell OEM of Windows 7 Home Premium, for sale on eBay:

    http://www.eBay.com/Sch/i.html?_FROM=R40&_trksid=p2050601.M570.L2632.R2.TR4.TRC1.A0.H0.XDell+Windows+7+Home+Premium.TRS0&_nkw=Dell+Windows+7+Home+Premium&_sacat=18793

You could also buy a new copy of the retail trade, nor copies of OEM Windows 7 Home Premium.

Personal, I buy the replacement outside eBay, don't forget to get a 32 or 64 - bit copy of W-7 HP, depending on which version has been installed at the factory.

  • I moved folders amd64 and i386 to another partition, later deleted them there and now have copies of 0 bytes in the trash who refuse to go away or to restore.

I found the folders containing these subfolders on my C:\ drive and thought I would move to another partition, because they are not referenced in the registry.  Years later, I deleted those same files, then erased and then removed again from the trash.

But they refuse to go away... remaining as with attrib C 0 byte files.  Does not restore.  Trash has no security tab by which I could take control of these nuisances, and Unlocker does not work.

Any way to rebuild the trash or otherwise to clean?  The files remain an embarrassing reminder of my foolishness, but otherwise my system is always very good.

See if this sounds like your situation and react accordingly:

When some programs (including Windows) installs things, it can create a temporary folder composed of 20-30 random letters and numbers or random numbers and letters in the root of the drive of the volume with more free space.

This explains why the records are sometimes on your C drive or any other drive - the most space?

For example, you can see a similar to or called folder:

    D:\9470bb12e8a4f3447657236478e41c5

There may be other folders and files in this main temporary folder such as amd64 and i386 platforms.

They should normally be deleted when the installation is complete, but sometimes they are not - especially if the installation fails.  They are harmless but annoying.  You can think something is wrong when there are no or fear, that the files are really necessary.  To avoid confusion, you can delete the temporary files.

If your installation has failed or the installation does not remove the folder to the random name when it finishes running again installation will be another folder at the random name.

You may be able to identify installation (out of curiosity) by looking at some of the contents of the folder and decide if this installation was not serious, just remove the files/folders.  If the installation does not work for some reason, run again just installation will create a new temporary folder to the random name so the old temporary folder is really useless.

Records are sometimes tough to remove.  Even if you are an administrator on the system, you might get a "sharing violation", "access denied", "used" or type similar message when you try to delete temporary folders.  Facilities sometimes use different permissions that can have a regular user with the administrator group.

There are many methods to try to remove the folders, and some require third party programs to install or change some windows settings that could compromise the security of your system if you do not change them back when you're done.

Start your system in Mode safe mode (by pressing the F8 key several times just before XP attempts to load) is a good method to try to remove the files because it does not have to make any changes to your system configuration or by downloading third-party programs.

If Safe Mode does not work you can change the security of the folder when you start in Normal Mode to give your username full control over the files by navigating to it in Solution Explorer, click on tools, Folder Options, view and in the advanced settings window, uncheck (at the bottom of the list) use simple file sharing (recommended) and click OK.  This disables him recommended simple file sharing on your computer if you want to turn it back on when you're done to make everything you do.

Right-click on the files of interest, click Properties and click the now visible security tab.  Change the properties, but you need (for example, select your user name, and check the box to allow full control), click OK to apply the changes.

With usage share of active simple files (recommended) the checked the properties of the folder tabs are:

    General, sharing, customize

With the use of sharing files simple disabled (recommended) box unchecked, the properties of the folder tabs are:

    General, security, customize

Now, try to manipulate/delete the folder.

It's a good idea to go back to the Explorer and the cheque in the box easy to use sharing files (recommended) when you have finished making everything you do.

If none of the above works, try a popular third-party tool called Unlocker.

    Unlocker can be downloaded here:

    http://www.emptyloop.com/Unlocker/

If you use Unlocker, be sure to install because he wants to add a bunch of options, addons, shortcuts and other extras that you don't need.

You must add the shell extension so when you right click on the offending file, you will have a Unlocker option to choose.  I would just install it long enough to clean up the leftovers and then, I usually just uninstall and all parts of it.  You can always install it again another day if you like.

Unlocker can be uninstalled when you have finished using it.

Reboot when finished to ensure that boring records are really missing.
