Good method to restore running, boot and Firmware for PowerConnect 6224 switch

Hi all

I have a switch PowerConnect 6224 of production that is configured exactly as I want.  I have a new PowerConnect 6224 switch I want to restore the config is possible?  My goal is to not have to manually enter settings for each single switch.

I tried a few methods, but they do not seem to work.  If anyone can tell me the correct procedure or point me in the right direction would be great!

Here's a document on some older switches which explains the process.

www.Dell.com/.../app_note_12.pdf

It is different for the 6248 somewhat, but the concept is still the same.

Copy of the file Image of a server to Flash memory

Use the command copy of the image - the url of the source to copy an image from a Flash memory server file, use the boot system command to activate the new image.

Copy of a Configuration file from one server to the running Configuration

Use the running-config command to copy the url of the source to load a configuration file to a network server for the device running configuration. The configuration is added to the running configuration, as if the commands were typed in the command line interface (CLI). The resulting configuration file is the combination of the running configuration and the loaded configuration file, with the configuration file with priority.

Copy of a Configuration file from one server to the Startup Configuration

Use the command copy startup-config - the url of the source to copy a configuration of a network server file in the startup of the device configuration. These commands replace the configuration file starting with the copied configuration file.

Store the Configuration of starting or running on a server

Use the command copy running-config destination url to copy the current configuration file to a network server by using TFTP. Use the copy destination-url startupconfig command to copy the configuration file to start on a network server. The copy of the configuration file can be used as a backup copy.

  • Update Firmware on Powerconnect 6224 switch

    I am wanting to update the firmware on my Powerconnect 6224 3.3.1.10 Version 3.3.5.5 Version switch.  Is there a problem with this jump or if that's okay?

    I would like also some words of wisdom as how this upgrade as painless as possible.

    Sincerely,

    Ken

    You should not have problems from this version to the current 3.3.5.5.  If you are not familiar with the command line on the switch, you can download the firmware from a location on your workstation management through http.

    You start by downloading the 3.3.5.5 from the support.dell.com site. Keep in a folder.  Then from the interface WebGUI of the switch, you can go to System/file/management folder download you must choose HTTP to transfer mode, then navigate to the location of the firmware on the desktop you.  Here is a screenshot of the file download page.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
    Data recovery, if/before you reinstall:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    See you soon.

  • When I started my computer this morning, it ran chkdsk at startup, windows startup it goes immediately to chkdsk, it will be repeated again and again. I can boot into safe mode, but if I try to start windows normally it runs chkdsk and does not start

    Windows does not start normally, just run chkdsk again and again

    First test the hard drive to make sure it's healthy. Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

    http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/SeaTools/seatooldreg

    Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.

    If the hard drive then passes the physical tests, safe mode:
    Start > run > cmd [Enter]
    fsutil dirty query c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]

    This will tell you if the disc is dirty or not. Then always in cmd:

    chkntfs /x c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]

    This tells Windows not not to check this drive at startup. Reboot and it should go on the desktop. Once Windows loaded, run cmd and:

    Chkdsk /f /r c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]

    CHKDSK will run through all 5 steps. After that it's over, always in cmd:

    fsutil dirty query c: (or the appropriate drive letter) [Enter]

    Secure boot is a protocol feature not a Windows 8 of UEFI recent incidents made of PC/Laptop, etc. This is a feature implemented in the BIOS of a PC/laptop.

    Old PC do not have this in the setup of the BIOS, so it cannot be used.

    You have been informed that Secure Boot is not part of the BIOS, you may not use the feature.

    No have Secure Boot will not in any way affect the installation / execution of the W8.

    Here's a technical explanation of Secure Boot, read if you like:

  • Updated table controller drivers and Firmware at boot from a SD card?

    I am in the process of upgrading vSphere 5.1 to 6.0.  All our ESXi hosts boot from SD cards and do not use table controllers local (they don't even have disks).  We had internal discussions on the need to update table controller drivers and firmware on our ESXi hosts if we do not use the table.  Those who are drivers update are firmware are concerned by the potential problems when the operating system scans the controller (either on boot for when looking for the new volumes) If firmware or drivers have been written for vSphere 4.1.  Those who are against the update drivers and firmware think that since there is no disc no problem.

    VMware has specific recommendations?

    What do other drivers of controller of berries on systems that do not use the local drive (i.e. boot from SD SAN cards, Auto deploy,).

    Thank you.

    P.S., We use servers HP Proliant DL and BL series, but I guess that would apply to any provider.

    VMware and HP support told me that if the device should not be used, then the drivers and firmware will not be updated.  We played with the idea to disable the array controller in the BIOS, but finally we decided to stay with our standard process do not update table controllers.

After the update I tried it out, web navigation simple, when suddenly, out of nowhere the mac stop (much battery left and the led indicator to confirm) and has not started since... when I turn it on the led light flashes and it gives the s.o.s. beep (3 short beeps followed by 3 long beeps and then 3 short beeps) the optical drive made his usual looking noises of boot and the fan continues to spinning, I tried to remove the battery 10 minutes several times and nothing... I read a lot about the problems of ram tested with one stick at a time in the two slots and no improvement... bought a new pair of hynix 2 gb 1066 mhz pc3-8500 ddr3 sticks as recommended for this model and replaced the "old"... did nothing.

    I have no original discs just the macbook itself and the charger. Also tried to boot from the usb drive... not good... tried to start mode revovery... nothing that the black screen and a beep sounds.

    I did some research and read a looooot online and in discussions such as this apple and found it to be the sound warning for bad/corrupted efi rom (as opposed to the majority of people declaring it to be a ram issue) which needs to be restored or flashed... However, apple does not provide or at least I can't find a picture of recovery for my model cd special I know it's the macbook 5.1 (a1278 / emc2254). Is there any solution for this? Please help in some way that you can welcome suggestions!

    Thank you

    Hello

    You will need to reverse the clean boot, as it is either incidental compared to
    the real cause of the problem. What, where you try to fix initially using the cleanboot?

    You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If so you can try the configuration - control panel
    The Device Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click the driver UPDATE - then
    Right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

    Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure) is
    CTRL + ALT + DEL and the processes tab find EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - and then
    on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
    by tapping F8 as you start several times.

    First check this thread in case it is simple and if not to come back to this thread.

    Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.
    That there is no information on a black screen as it is on a blue screen just adds to the
    Difficulty. Often using a restore point or Startup Repair will have no effect. You can try a
    Google to see the proposed repairs, whom some have worked however these cover a wide
    field efforts.

    Here's a video of one of them.

    You have a Vista disk? You can try restoring the system to it. If you don't have the disks your
    system manufacturer will sell them at low prices. Or try in safe mode if you can get there.

    If necessary and you can access all ordinary Windows.

    You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation
    (if all goes well, the data records and need to reinstall programs). Don't forget to make a good backup or
    3.

    You can use another DVD that aren't copy protected but you you need to own
    Product key.

    If nothing works, you can do a repair installation that needs to save the data, but you will
    to reinstall the programs. This also requires correct Vista disks especially for OEM versions. You
    will need to know your product Code.

    Another method that works sometimes: at the command prompt, type of Vista startup disk:
    (type in a single line or copy / paste a line at a time and then press enter - enter a bracket )
    or "BOLD")

    c:

    cd\

    CD c:\Windows\System32\winevt (there is a space between cd and C :)

    Ren LogsOLD Logs (there are spaces between ren and newspapers and Logsold)

    RESTART Windows
