You left out which version of DirectX has been shown.

As far as I know, your Intel 945GM should support DirectX 9 and because you have XP sp3, you must have at least DirectX 9 installed.

I met the following, but it shouldn't apply to Powerpoint:

Some such as the Intel 945 GM Intel video cards have a design limitation which may cause problems when you try to run the Source Engine games. 3D graphics kernel does not support transformation of material, light and the vertex shader to similar technologies, which is an important part of the pipeline of 3D acceleration. Instead, this functionality is emulated in software that can reduce the compatibility and performance with 3D games.

I don't have a solution for you (assuming that DXDIAG, in fact, reports to have DirectX 9 or higher).  You can see if you install a new driver support, but if it were me, I would be first contact Acer technical support or ask your question in another forum as one of the following conditions:

    Intel graphics Forum: http://communities.intel.com/community/tech/graphics
Forum PowerPoint: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/powerpoint (select the corresponding forum for your version of Powerpoint).  Include the results of DxDiag, including the version of DirectX.  If there is something unusual about the image that causes the crash, include this info as well.

Normally, for notebook/laptop computer, it is better to get the drivers of the mfr of computer rather than the manufacturer of the device.

Acer drivers for your computer are here: http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=535 (you want the Intel VGA for XP driver)

Intel has a newer driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Internet+Devices&ProductLine=Netbooks&ProductProduct=Mobile+Intel%C2%AE+945GM+Express+Chipset+Family

    Hi Lyle,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem your graphics card does not support the Aero themes. If you experience a problem then you need to update the drivers.

Drivers are updated occasionally. Windows can update automatically, or you can install the drivers updated yourself. It is important for you to have confidence in the updated drivers that you install. Windows warns you if it detects a suspicious or dangerous driver, you should not install.

Try to update the drivers from the link provided below and see if it helps you to solve the problem.

    Hello Dan,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you get the message that the aero effects are not supported by your video card. I would help you with the question. However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. What is the edition of Windows 7 installed on your computer (Home Premium, professional, Ultimate etc.)?
    2. What is the brand and model number. your computer?
    3. What is the exact message you get?

The question could arise if Windows 7 is not compatible with the version of the driver or if the driver you are using, in particular, does not supports the Aero effects.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Run the next fixit and then re-run the assessment. Check if it is useful.

  • Graphics card does not support Windows Aero?

    Hello world

today I received the message telling me (after that I played a few hours) that my pc has problems of performance due to the Aero and it offers me to activate Windows Basic.

I have this card (Nvidia GTX 750 Ti) for 2 months now and it never gave me problems so I'm wandering if it could be a hardware problem or just windows that ran a test on the graphics card all the 'X' days for the Aero compatibility.

I ran the fix tool and it said that my GPU is not compatible with Aero (never had problems of performance in games activities or other).

So I ask: is this a real problem? Can I ignore it and run Aero or it will cause physical problems in the future? Can it be a hardware failure or something similar?

    Thank you.

The card should manage easily Aero and its effects. Go to this site where you can download and run the latest drivers...

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

The message should go away... :-)

You can try to install in compatibility mode and see if this will help; about the only other thing is you go on the game manufacturer and see if they have nothing else, you can try. It's perhaps the game just won't work in windows 8. Hope this helps and if you need another post to help and we will be happy to help you.

  • Aero in Windows has stopped working, the difficulty it says that my graphics card is not supported!

About 1 week ago my aero wasn't on when I started my pc. When I tried to turn on I couldn't, could not choose aero theme and the built-in Troubleshooter could not find fault. So I tried the fixit windows application and it says that my graphics card does not support aero. I find it very strange because it worked the day before and then suddenly stopped. Tried reinstalling the drivers but it still does not work. I have a card ATI Radeon HD 5570. Help, please! :)

If you have updated your Windows then uninstall the update of platform for Windows 7 (KB2670838) and your problem should be solved.

Before I updated my Windows this month I just checked if Microsoft still offer this update. This is in the optional list. I installed so I thought to manually upgrade to IE10 because he wasn't in the IE9 update list. So I did manually and after that check updates again and to my surprise this update has disappeared completely. I have an old PC as well, and after installing all the updates I still have no problems so far. I recommend that you upgrade to IE10 after uninstalling this update (if you updated with that and faced the problem) to get rid of the update forever. But do it at your own risk, because I never updated my machine with this defective update and see if that caused any problems with my machine.
