Grouping of cards NETWORK R710

Hello everyone,

I have 4 x R710 server in the company, each has 4 x BCM5709C NIC that I want to do is find the best available solution to aggregate all the network adapters on each server. All servers are in the same network, connected to the same switch, and they mainly run SQL on Windows Server 2008 services. I know that BACS3 support grouping of NETWORK cards. So, I have a few question.

1. is the dependent solution BACS3 switch or can I use any switch 1 GB?

2. What is the difference between BACS3 and the LAG switch?

3. what would be the best solution for the network adapters on the team? It is not a problem to buy the switch that provide you

Thank you guys!

Hi Mike,.

We recommend that you use independent switch. BACS3 offers change, independent and dependent. Although an advantage of LACP has better load balancing when it comes to outbound traffic, there is more complex.  Using modes switch load requires more complex configuration of switches.

The OFFSET type is a type of load switch and is therefore not recommended. Any type of LACP is dependent, which means that the switch ports must also be configured to match.

If you use Server 2012, we also recommend that you do not use the BASC and use the MS LBFO (failover and load balancing).  On older versions of MS, it is called simply the Smart Load Balance and Fail-over.

Although this link is not a MS site, it offers an easy to follow guide to some of your questions as: http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=14004

  • Grouping of cards NETWORK CSACS-1121

    Hello

Is it possible to configure a NIC team on the 1121 device?

    Kind regards

    Average of Thibault.

    Hi Thibault,

the second NETWORK adapter on the GBA unit is actually not supported, you will need to connect ACS only using the interface GigabitEthernet0:

    On the installation guide:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.1/installation/guide/csacs_hw_ins.html#wp1119105

You can also see that the only interface "in use" is indeed GigabitEthernet0.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • The working groups in my network places became inaccessible.

The working groups in my network places became inaccessible.  I can reach the individual computers if I type the name or IP address, but I can't seem to them through network neighborhood.  Is there a setting somewhere hand who has caused this?  He used to work very well, this has only started happening in the last two weeks.  It began with a single computer not being able to be seen and grew up in the area of network together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi Mike,.

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

    Method 1: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not still in safe mode, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3: Follow the steps in the article.

    Thank you

It seems to me that default HomeGroup opens all your libraries (except documents) to other computers in the group.  For example, if your 'Pictures' library includes records 'My images' and 'Public Pictures', these two will be open to all.  You can choose to delete an entire folder, of course, but the default is to expose them to the group.  The network, on the other hand, by default only shows the public folders to the rest of the network.

  • The last user to join a group of the network will have the peerID above?

I thought a lot about how whether someone is the first user in a network group. Specifically, I was wondering if I could use the NEXT_DECREASING Mode send to see if someone had joined before a user. Michael Thornburgh said "the peerID persists for the duration of the connected NetConnection.  "as soon as he logs off, the peerID is destroyed and is never reused." That makes me hope that if a user leaves a mesh and joined to another, they would not get the same peerID. However, he also says that the peerIDs have a 'Pseudo-aléatoire' element in their generation, what makes me despair that she would follow a growing model. So to the heart of it: the last user to join a group of the network will have the peerID above?

lol peer IDs are cryptographically pseudorandom and distributed between 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 and ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.

  • Only 4 cards network

Most of our servers have 6 + NIC...  Usually, two for the management/Vmotion, two for virtual machines, two for the NFS storage.

Our newest blades only have 4 network cards... Although they are all 10 GB.  ESXi 5.0 currently using

What is the best way to implement?   Here are the two choices I think about: different VLAN for all which, incidentally.

    (1) create a switch with all physical cards four joints, 3 vmks (1 for management, 1 for vmotion, 1 for nfs).  All 4 physical network adapters be active for all and that the ESXi to understand.

    (2) create a switch with all physical cards four attached, 3 vmks again.  But organize the consolidation and failover of the physical NIC for each vmk separately.  Management and vmotion say gets vmnic0 as active, with vmnic3 as secondary... then nfs gets vmnic1 and vmnic3 as active. And virtual machines get vmnic2 as active, with vmnic1 as before.

#2 type of private VM traffic however... Should I leave VMs and NFS share all the vmnic1-3?

#3 create a switch with all physical adapters connected four, 3 vmks again. Management and vmotion gets vmnic0 as being active, with vmnic3 as secondary... then nfs and VMs to vmnic1, vmnic2 and vmnic3 as active.

    Thoughts?

You have different physical switches for management/vMotion, NFS and VM traffic or they are all connected to the same set of physical switches? This can strongly influece the answer on these questions.

You have company + license and allows to use distributed vSwitches?

If so, control network IO and focus on the burden of reunification are certainly considerations that could make your life a lot easier. With these two functions, you can go in confidence with the unique vSwitch parameter and all 4 uplinks, leaving basic teaming load dynamically determine where to place the VM vNIC and vmkernel ports while ensuring overall fair through the NIOC.

If you have not undertaken + licenses and need to go with standard vSwitches, I would probably build a vSwitch with two uplinks to the management/vMotion and NFS, using alternating rising favorite for both. Then another vSwitch for traffic from the virtual machine to the other two uplinks.

This example is not really make sense to me because you only have a single interface for NFS vmkernel. Assigning two physical NIC as active for this vmk is practically useless in this case. Is less than then you use IP-hash channeling on the vSwitch, in which case you should not all NIC expectations for any group of ports on the vSwitch together still.

Apart from this, even a simple but dedicated 10 GB NIC for VM traffic provides a lot of bandwidth.

Is Multi-NIC vMotion a desired in your scenario use case too or you want to just go with a vMotion NIC?

On that note, I don't really know your environment and requirements, but two 10 GB interfaces really offer a lot of bandwidth, and I mean a lot. Four 10 GB interfaces can seem a bit of an overdose, especially if you can ensure fairness through the NIOC and do not necessarily need to worry about custom configurations of active / standby NIC.

  • Error of grouping of HP network adapters

After conversion of 2 HP DL360 G5 with NIC team I now get the error when you try to launch the below HP Network Configuration utility:

"An error has occurred due to invalid data in the xml file that is used by this application.  The XML file has been damaged and needs to be reinstalled from the installation media.

This has happened on both servers, up to now, I converted and although the lack of consolidation of network cards is not a huge problem, I fear that this is a code that do not have the conversion process a sweetness that it appeared and there may be more corrupted files hidden.

Anyone know if there is a known issue?

I am using Stand Alone Converter 4.3

    Thank you very much

    Hello

    Hello from the Canada

After the P2V conversion, you MUST remove all agents of the material of the Virtual Machine that includes the consolidation of NIC from HP, it will not work properly

on your VM and it can cause a lot of weird problems

As you can see on this Ko under the section of "Tasks to perform after that conversion is complete" http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004588

Tasks to perform after that conversion is complete

    After the conversion is completed:

    1. Check the settings of virtual hardware:

      • Adjust the number of virtual network adapters. If you need customize the host name or IP address, leave all network cards present but disconnected.
      • Remove all devices useless such as USB controllers (if you are running on ESX), COM ports, or floppy drive

    2. Start the virtual machine Mode without failure. For more information, see start a guest operating system Windows in SafeMode (1004011).
    3. Click on Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs.  Remove all unnecessary programs used to install or support device, drivers such a RAID, network software of grouping or management, software management of wireless card management tools and drivers audio and video. Do not restart if you are prompted by an uninstall program.
    4. Restart the virtual machine in Normal mode.
    5. Remove additional devices or device drivers that have been used in support of hardware on the physical server. Use the Device Manager or control panel, depending on the version of Windows to remove unnecessary devices. It may also be necessary to view the event log to clear the messages failed rest device startup.
    6. VMware recommends changing the HAL in the uniprocessor virtual machine if the source server is configured with an abstraction layer multi-CPU hardware (HAL), and the destination virtual machine is configured to use a single processor. For more information, see modification of the Abstraction Layer HAL for a Windows virtual machine (1003978).
    7. Install VMware Tools and reboot if you are prompted.
    8. If necessary, customize the identity of the virtual machine. VMware recommends using the Microsoft Sysprep utility to achieve this, however, it can also be achieved by manually changing the host name, IP address, and any other record of unique identification. For more information, see How to use Sysprep: An Introduction http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457073.aspx.
    9. If the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) has been used before the conversion, select Normal startup switch to return to a normal boot configuration. For more information, see using the Windows System Configuration utility (1004010).
    10. Apply any previously deleted static parameters IP address, as requires it.
    11. Reconnect any disconnected NIC virtual, as required.
  • VMWare & connectivity card NETWORK DMZ

    Hello

Running VMware ESX Server 3.5.0, which currently has two nic is installed.

One is used for the service console and the second is used for the existing network of the virtual machine.

I now need to build a new virtual server as a mail relay that will be patched in our DMZ.

As none of the existing server are corrected in the DMZ will I need to purchase and install a new network adapter to be corrected in the DMZ and then configure the new server to use the DMZ NIC jst?

Thanks in advance for any response.

The prices your DMZ your LAN regularly on the same physical switches or different physical switches?  If they are different physical switches, then Yes you must buy a new network card.  If they are on the same switch, separated only by VLAN, you can configure technically on the switch port that the virtual machine is connected as a trunk port, then separate the virtual machine by creating groups of ports on the virtual switch and assigning the tag VLAN corresponding to the correct port group.  IE if your public network is VLAN10, then you EF tag VLAN 10 for the Group of existing ports.  Then you would create a new "virtual switch" but assign it to the already existing virtual switch, name it DMZ and under the id VLAN give him the other number VLAN, that is to say 11 or whatever it would be.

I removed a work card TP-Link to a Pavilion a1300a XP Home PC network to put in my Pavilion p6340a Win 7 (64-bit) Home Prem PC.

Download and install the current drivers of TP-Link.
Installed everything well and the adapter can be seen in sub "Change adapter settings" in network and sharing Center and shows as working properly in Device Manager, but it is not recognized as a network within the network and sharing Center.

Under "Manage wireless networks'" nothing appears, if I then click on Add"then manually create network profile" "I then get an informative message '" an unexpected error occurred'. "

Suspect a problem with the NETWORK card, I uninstalled it and its drivers and tried to install a USB wireless adapter with the same exact result and the error message. It seems that there must be an OS problem or something stopping the wireless to work. USB adapter both NIC work properly when installed on the former Pavilion a1300a XP Home PC. NETWORK card and USB adapter are the current drivers for Win7.

All the ideas it driving me crazy. A simple 5 minutes on any other PC task turned into many.many hours without solution.

After many hours of uninstall re install & try everything under the Sun in many forums, I finally found a solution. Despite trying with firewall disabled at different times was the final fix

    1. Uninstall NETWORK card and USB drivers and devices.

    Hello

I had previously posted the question below and took the lead on mark as resolved. The answer I got was good, but because of many different configurations of my model of my laptop model, it was not correct for mine.

I have an old HP Pavilion 1355dx G7 and I use it during the games XBOX a stream. It has only one network adapter Wireless 2.4 ghz, if coupled with that much congestion in my neighborhood, it broadcasts only during the flawless. New info: my laptop has an AMD processor, not an Intel processor.

This laptop does support 5 GHz wirelesss network cards compatible with AMD? I am hoping to move to a 5 ghz however I want to make sure that it supports and is on the white list before I buy one.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was afraid of. Can be an excuse to get a new laptop and let the kids use it. It is not a big deal, for the most part, it works well, but you can see in sensitive applications.

I used an app WiFi Analyzer and each channel is overused. I'm surrounded by more than a dozen networks (tons of apartments) and use channel 11 that is congested, but less crowded than 1 and 6.

Assuming that wireless router is configured correctly, it is a signal and the wireless card on the computer is physically in.

    Maybe this can help.

These steps and tell us where is the breaking point.

Check the Device Manager for the wireless card valid entry.

If there is no valid entry, remove any entry from fake and re - install the drivers for the wireless card.

Check network connections to make sure that you have a network icon/entry wireless connection, and that the properties of the icon (right-click on the icon) are correctly configured with the TCP/IPv4 protocol in the properties of network connections.
