  • What support VMware Windows 7 as a guest host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system operating system?

    People,

    Hello.

Because my laptop is preinstalled Windows 7 and cannot dual boot multiple operating systems. I need to install VMware in Windows 7 host and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

I installed VMware Server 2.0.2 in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 operating system as a guest host. Everything works fine for a while. But VMware Server Home Page https://mylaptop:8333 / IU cannot display more.

I found that Windows 7 is not a host for VMware Server 2 and strange operating system might happen at any time. I found that 'VMware Player 3' is fully supported in Windows 7 as host operating system but is not taken in charge of Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

People knows what product VMware Windows 7 support as host operating system and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system prompted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

IMHO, I think that Workstation is the vmware product just for you, the requirements

It supports Windows 7 as a facilitator and Windows 2003 as a host with no problems. You can be confident about it at 100%.

  • Migration to a linux guest hosted on GSX 3.2.1 to ESX 4.0 host environment.

    Hello

I currently intend to migrate a CentOS 5.2 Guest hosted on GSX 3.2.1 to our new ESX 4.0 environment.

The computer invited CentOS uses a HDD IDE instead of SCSI.

    Issues related to the:

    1. What do I have to convert the IDE drive first before migrating using guided Consolidation tool? Because the administration Server admin guideESX guide does not cover this for ESX 4.0...

1.1 is ESX 4 Supprt IDE drive for virtual guests?

    2. I tried to use this document to convert http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 1881 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogID = 54840823 & stateId = 0% 200% 2054844788

However when that I start the system, I get a "Kernel Panic" error.

    Someone can help me.

    See you soon,.

Unlike ESX3.x, ESX4 supports virtual IDE drives, so you should not have to convert the disc before. I recommend using the free VMware Converter standalone (or if you have vCenter converter integrated company) to import the virtual machine to an ESX Server.

  • Host and guest CPU and memory count

    Hello

I just installed ESXi 3.5 on a DELL PowerEdge R710 with 2 processors to 4 cores of each and 8 GB of memory. I created a Windows 2000 Advanced Server client in this regard. The issue I'm having is the inability to allocate 8 vCPUs with 8 GB of RAM at the prompt. The setting for processors made 4 and although I have allocate 8 GB, the guest operating system shows only 4 GB. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

With ESX 3.5 the maximum number of virtual processors, you can assign the machine virtual is 4 - If you want to have a VM with 8 virtual processors, you must buy vSphere (ESX/ESXi 4) with ENterprise Plus license allows you to run a virtual machine with 8 virtual processors - in terms of memory if the o/s is 32-bit by default can only access 4 GB.

No, unfortunately it turns out that it is impossible. You will not be able to see more than the 4 GB, unless your host operating system is able to see the memory using a PAE switch, or by using a 64-bit host OS. As Vista does not support the PAE switch, your guest operating system will be limited to the 4 GB as the host OS.

If the host operating system is 32-bit, 64-bit guest OS can be created?

Yes it is certainly possible. But you must make sure you enable VT-extensions. See also the excellent article by jmattson on troubleshooting problems of Intel VT - x

  • 11 - Win7 Guest Host Win8.1 - SLOW comments PRE-LAUNCH workstation

    Hello

I'm new to vmware and used to work with VirtualBox.Guest on VirtualBox boot immediately when started.

My host is running on a core AMD FX-8350 8 4.2 Ghz with 32 GB of ram and VDI are stored on a Samsung 850 PRO SSD.

Whenever I start a guest with Win7, I get a black screen for couples of minutes THEN prompt boots at a normal pace.

No idea what vmware did to 'prepare' the boot?

(I read that vmware renaming "* debug*.exe" makes it faster.) Which I did and did not notice that many improvements)

But if the guess is paused, then restarted - it's quick to get back running as expected.

    Thank you

  • Excessive I/o, Ubuntu Maverick, guest host of Windows 7, both are 32-bit

    Hi all.

I've invited Windows 7 SP1 (with the latest updates) installed on a virtual machine hosted on Ubuntu Maverick. The hosts and guests are 32-bit operating systems. When the customer is running the system carries out a large number of e/s (the LED of the disc is very bright) same for answers and small farms slowly. Doing something heavier, such as from Visual Studio or MS Expression Blend inside the guest takes about 5 minutes. Opening a XAML file or build my solution also takes enormous amount of time.

I cloned the virtual HD and he ran under VirtualBox, and it does not display these problems, then I think that the problem is somewhere in the configuration of the VMWare VM. I would like to take advantage of ability of VMWare to accelerate 3D graphics, so I have to stay with VMWare. Everyone experienced these problems? All solutions?

    Some info from the host:

    Core i5 520M

4 GB of RAM (I have a PAE kernel, then he can access all this)

    Ubuntu Maverick (10.10)

Hard drive 500 GB, 4500 RPM. A 277 GB free.

    News comments:

    2 virtual processors

    2 GB of RAM

100 GB virtual hard drive (not not previously assigned)

An another 10 GB, preallocated virtual hard disk for the windows swap file

I also added advanced options that I saw in another site, which may solve the problem, but they did not help (and has not done anything worse still too). You can find them at the end of the VMX file attached.

  • How do I synchronize guest host OS

I recently installed VMware Player 3.1.3 on my laptop Windows 7 Pro 32 bit with Ubuntu 10.10 as the guest operating system. I used all of the default and recommended settings during these two facilities (player, then Ubuntu.) If I turned off my laptop at the end of the day, whenever I restart the laptop the Ubuntu desktop clock is off by however many hours the laptop was turned off. Although I've got Ubuntu configured to automatically synchronize with the time server and the correct time zone is defined, and VMware Tools has been installed successfully during the installation of the drive, I must still manually change the time Ubuntu to be in sync with the time of Win 7.  Other than this issue, everything else seems to work properly.  I tried searching for similar problems, but found nothing.  My apologies if this has already been addressed.

Suggestions or ideas on how to get the guest operating system automatically reset clock and corresponds to the host clock at the start of the player?

When you turn on a guest, he will receive the time from the host. That's why I assumed that the guest is not closed properly. To verify that everything is as it should after a stop own comments, please take a look at the folder of the virtual machine. You see a file with an extension of VMS? What are the files that you see?

If your Ubuntu starts with the standard Linux startup, then it looks like something in the configuration of OS comments is the origin of the problem.

    IM using vwware workstation 7.0

what I do for them...? How can I configure the ip host?

    Please help me...

It won't be easy for me if you say that I must give this ip?

    host for what?

No need to change anything on the host, because it will lead the 192.0.0.1 if you follow the example.

    Comments for what?

    for example 192.0.0.101

u said "attach the virtual machine to the VMnet." what is meant by this?

Attach the virtual machine to the VMnet you configured to 192.0.0.0

and what is meant by "virtual network in the host address will be"XXX1"."?

On the host virtual network card will be created with address 192.0.0.1 if you follow the example.

  • Invited 3.5u4 swap ESXi host and memory size

    Hi all!

I have VM (Debian Linux), graphs of performance on this subject shows swap use about 250 MB, real vswp file size is 1.6 G, but he came out of the guest operating system:

    Linux: ~ # vmstat

    procs-

    memory-

    -swap .
    IO- system -

    CPU-

free buff cache r-b-swpd TR so bi bo in cs us sy id wa

    1 0 0 739896 135300 208828 0 0 2 42 20 68 1 1 98 0

As seen, no swap no used. Why VI customer counters and swap file size differs so much use of guest operating system counters.

    Hello

You are looking at two different levels of memory usage. VI customer, you can read information about the actual use of memory and swap ESX. It differs generally you can read from within the guest for example OS Linux. VM swap file (not asked) if used by VMkernel in situation when the assertion of memory occurs. Lack of memory is mapped in the Exchange. It is the last resort and causes significant performance degradation.

Guest os swap is "high" this VM swap. It is entirely managed by the guest operating system. It size is based on the memory configured for VM and guest OS configuration. Only the situation when VMkernel can affect the exchange of comments is the balloon pilot. It is a breakthrough of technical recording memory that allows ESX to "say" the guest OS some free memory and use more swap file (Exchange of comments!). Freed memory can be reclaimed by VMkernel and used by other virtual machines. This driver is available for the guests with VM Tools installed.

  • Problem with mouse pointer lag (Ubuntu 9.10 guest, host of Win 7 32-bit)

I'm trying to run Ubuntu 9.10 as a guest for VMware Player 3.0 (Windows 7, 32-bit host). Installation works well but is in fact unusable because the mouse pointer has an offset, hence the development of real mouse is. that is if you click on an element when the mouse pointer is shown, makes you click on something different. The mouse pointer is above and to the left of the actual point where the focus is (i.e. where you "click on"). I can see elements get highlighted when moving the mouse somewhere near them, but a click actually selects another item. It worked well (even Ubuntu version) while VMWare Player worked on a host of Vista. Strange behavior began after having upgraded from Vista to Win7 (I have reinstalling VMware player after the upgrade and had to recreate the Ubuntu VM).

    Just what is wrong advice?

I can open more cd drives in my Win XP commentsapplications instead they appear in the host. I was trying to backup Quicken in the comments on a cd as I've always done on the cd rom drivedrive D, but kept to error message "Please choose another location. This drive is read-only. When I put in a new blank disc, my host found iMac drive instead - a popup window said that I inserted a blank disc and he asked me what I wanted to do with him (open I-Tunes, etc.). When I went on the D drive in my computer and double click on the D drive icon, it says: "Please insert a disc into drive D" if she does not see the blank disc that was still in the drive. Instead, I found the icon of blank disk on the desktop of the host and may open in the host. So it seems that the cd rom in the guest drive is be outstripped by the host. I tried to uninstall the cd rom drive in the comments Device Manager and rebooted the prompt. He finds the "new hardware" and reinstalled the drive, but I still having the same problem accessing it. • Using the guest host as operating system operating system

When using VMware Server, if you install it on Server 2003, can use you your host operating system in your guest OS.  Or would you have to install another copy of it?

Just trying to make sure I have good understanding.  If I install XP as a guest operating system, which is accessible remotely.  In addition, the same image can be created again and again or should I create a new serial numbers don't?  I'm fine with the purchase of new numbers of seria, but did not know how to create the guest operating system has worked.

Consider each virtual machine comments as another computer.  So, everyone needs an operating system installed.  You can install the same host operating system, but it is a different facility.

Microsoft allows you to use product keys Windows 4 ~ 5 times and then they will not activate them.  So if you remove an active Windows VM, that use of the key is lost.

You may be able to copy a virtual machine already activated without having to re - activate, I'm not sure.  Like to do a clean install of Windows XP, activate and update, then copies of the virtual machine before you install additional software.
