Guest operating system does not use the entire disk space

Hello world.

I'm kind new to the ESXi.

When you use ESXi5, I am facing a problem with disk space.

As you can see in the image below, I posted 600Gigs for my guest OS (CentOS).

vm.jpg

But I have found that the OS actually uses only 90Gigs as seen in the image below.

Do you have a suggestion for this? Or any idea why it is that way?

Thank you very much for your help guys.

  • Adding SCSI - HOST OS card works fine, GUEST operating system does not see the new hardware

I have a HOST Windows XP Pro SP3 with VMWare v6.5.2 running Windows Server 2003 R2 STD, SP2 as OS GUEST running on any new Dell Precision T3500 Workstation.

I've closed the COMMENTS and then HOST. Installed an Adeptec SCSI 39160 card in the PC. The card is a 64-bit and is installed in a PCI 32-bit slot. (It is backwards compatible with 32 - bit)

Powered on PC. Install the drivers of Adeptec on the HOST. Works fine and I can see the card under Windows XP. Rebooted and everything is always OKm POST shows the installed card and search devices. I have no device attached at this point.

GUEST operating system has started and it does not automatically detect the card. Tried to run the Add Hardware Wizard and same result. Tried to use VMWare to install the new Hard ware with no result.

Can tell you how I can get the OS TO see / use the new SCSI card?

Did you the latest changes on the computer?

You can check if changing the resolution of the screen helps you solve the problem. See below for links-

  • Serial port under guest operating system does not work

Running VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 on win 7-64 bit. Guest operating system is win 7 32 AND Windows XP (32 bit). I followed the instructions on connecting to the host serial port. However, there is no access to serial port a guest OS. Serial Port sniffer running on the host shows NO ACTIVITY on the port operating system serial host.

Even serial device, attached and if running on the host works very well.

    Any ideas?

    Steve

I doubt that the documentation is correct for what is with VMplayer 3 on Windows TGV serial ports is.
    Read my notes http://faq.sanbarrow.com/index.php?solution_id=1007

I removed the option of thinprint and reconfigured the serial port in the vmx file attached.

Turn off the virtual machine and replace the existing by the attached vmx file.
    Then try again

If it still does not - change
    Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = "FALSE".
    TO
    Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = 'true '.

  • NIC Vista guest operating system does not work

I am running VMware Workstation 5.5.5 build-56455, on a Win XP Pro host system.

I just installed Windows Vista business as a guest operating system, but I can't get the network to work.

    How to make this work?

The 'real' my Dell workstation NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller, if it is relevant at all.

    Concerning

It seems that the virtual NETWORK adapter is not installed on the client, otherwise, you would see an adapter in the comments "ipconfig" with an APIPA address.

Install the VMware tools in the comments (you always do). It contains the correctdrivers for the virtual card.

Altogether. You just need to create one of these.

For starters, you can find more information on how to do it on the http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3i_e/r35/vi3_35_25_3i_server_config.pdf page29

  • Windows XP operating system does not accept the product key on the COA label

    Hi all

After moving to get my laptop fixed I decided it was for long a new copy of Windows XP.
After formatting the hard drive, I can't find my recovery cd!

So I decided to borrow my CD Windows XP Professional of brothers, which I'm sure that Service Pack 2 has built in.

When you try to use my product key on the COA label under the laptop he simply refuses to accept it. :(
Any ideas? I use the wrong version of windows?

The label says 'Windows XP Professional 1-2CPU'
Can I get the Toshiba recovery cd or that would be too expensive.

Any advice would be great, thank you very much.
    Concerning
    Jay.

    Hello

    > Can I get the Toshiba Recovery CD or who would be too expensive.
Yes, it is possible. You can order the recovery of the AEP CD in your country and it should be cheap

I m not 100% sure why the key to the COA label cannot be accepted. Maybe you laptop came with XP Home Edition only and that is why it does not work with XP PRO.

  • Operating system does not recognize the drive (cd/dvd drive)

Product: hp pavilion dv4270us notebook PC

    Operating system: Windows XP Professional

My dvd R/W drive stopped working on my laptop all of a sudden.  No messages were produced.  When I checked the Device Manager, the drive did not work with an error code 39.  I uninstalled equipment and reinstalled several times but no recognition by operating system.

Is this a problem of interface, or do I need a new optical drive?

Yes... a bit of burning CD and other prorgams programs add their filter keys to the registry that will create this problem. You just need to remove the key and restart the system to recover the system to the factory settings.

  • Problems of migration to a new system - guest operating system does not work

I've been running VMware Player on a Win 7 64 bit laptop.  I have 3 computers of customers, which is 32-bit Win XP.  I've just set up a new machine, also running Win 7 64 bit, but a processor more recent (i7) and more memory (32 GB).  I use the same version of the player on both machines (4.0.1 build-528992).  I copied all the files from the laptop to the new office.  Ubuntu and Mac OS X Lion customers will work perfectly.  When I try to run the client Win XP, I get the following message:

File not found: Windows XP Mode base.vhd

This file is required to power on this virtual machine.  If this file has been moved, please provide its new location.

I don't have a VHD file, I have a VMDK file (again, which works fine on the laptop).  I tried turn off the virtual machine on the laptop, then copying the files to the desktop, and I also tried to suspend, both with the same results.  When I try to change the settings of the virtual machine on the new desktop, clicking on the adjustment of the hard drive (IDE) causes the following message:

The parent of this virtual disk could not be opened.

The VMDK file is 19.2 GB.  I've searched and searched trying to find why this could happen and found nothing.  The XP machine has a good bit of responsible software that I use on a daily basis.  Last resort, I could create a virtual XP machine on the new desktop and reload all the software, but strongly prefer not to do it - it would be a tedious task.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could happen and how to fix it?  I copied the files several times to ensure that it is not something simple like a damaged copy.  I'm puzzled.  The XP machine was NOT initially a WIndows XP Mode machine, even if the message indicates that VMware Player seems to think it is (and, again, it works fine on the laptop).  The name of the virtual machine is "WIndows XP Mode" - maybe that's why he complains.  Is it possible to rename all of the files and references to files to resolve this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the community,

We can be able to know if the virtual machine is one any "Windows XP Mode" VM or not to take a look at VMware.log virtual machine. Please attach the last file vmware.log file XP VM (that of the laptop), as well as the PC to your next post.

  • ESXi 4.1, does not use the entire RAID 5 on Dell R810 datastore

I installed ESXi 4.1 on a Dell R810.  I've raided the first two drives in a RAID 1 and installed ESXi.  The 4 remaining disks are in a RAID 5 for the main data store.  ESXi acknowledges that the RAID is 2.7 TB but will only create a.7 TB or 744,75 GB data store.

I did the same thing on several Dell R710s without problem.  Someone at - it ideas?  I guess it's a driver issue, but I do not see updates to driver for 4.1 for Dell R810

The maximum size of a 4.1 data store is 2 TB less 512bytes. If you want to see the entire data store, you will need to upgrade to ESXi 5
