HAL.dll is damaged or missing. Installed at the factory of W - XP without installation cd

Windows does not start.  Message: \system32\hal.dll is missing or damaged.

W - XP was factory installed/Dell machine, no installation cd as backup to fix/incorrect file copy.  Any help is appreciated.

Fortunately, I think that the technical support engineer will not.

That the Support engineer should have said is "I don't know how to solve this problem without a Windows XP installation CD".    It would be the most accurate.

You are usually not necessary an installation CD of Windows XP for this common problem.  Given that most of the people do not have, and this common problem is solved all the time, what do you think they do?

Unfortunately, MS Answers forums does not prompt for any information system when a new question is asked, so we don't know anything on your system.  This shortfall in crude in the development of MS Answers forums unnecessarily prolongs solving simple problems.

If your system has a CD/DVD drive, you can make a bootable CD from the Console of the Recovery XP (no XP media required) and undertook to solve your problem.

Support engineers or the moderators of the Forum, you would be so kind as to post please the instructions to make a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console, when there is no available XP media.

When I start my computer I get a message that says that the file \system32\hal.dll. is damaged or missing. Please reinstall a copy of the file. I have the original Windows XP CD and I tried to re - install, but it will not go beyond the implementation of window. I can't sign in to windows. How can I reintall this file?

It's extremely likely that you will need to replace the hal.dll and since there are seven files on the XP installation CD that will extend into hal.dll, which would you choose?  It depends on your hardware, but it is extremely likely that the problem (did I already say that?).  I've never had to replace a file hal.dll for this problem.

The real problem is most likely that XP just can not find the file because of a file system corruption or a file c:\boot.ini afflicted.

For this error, I would always be first boot from the XP Recovery Console and sometimes run a chkdsk-r that will fix things right to the top.

If the chkdsk /r is clean and you have the same problem, and then re-create your c:\boot.ini file but rename the old one first so you don't build on top of those afflicted - this tidbit is absent from MS KB article that assumes too.

You can do all this in the XP Recovery Console, but do go through these methods in this article and see how you go.

For example, method 1 will not work if your system does not start.  You may have more luck with other "methods".

If that doesn't work, then I suggest to provide a little more information about your system:

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Your system have IDE or SATA disks?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a real installation CD bootable XP which is the same Service Pack as your installed Service Pack? (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall vista

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Help! installed at the factory lost programs after the failure of the hard drive!

    Hello
We run windows Vista Edition 32-bit home premium.  Installed at the factory we have Microsoft works and many options, and additional games. After we have made of our hard drive wiping and a clean install of windows Vista again these elements did not return to the top... We have done this before and it was something we had to do to get these things once again, but I forgot what it was.

We have no shadow on our hard drive... we have removed all the shadow copies and all the windows of OLD files, etc... We needed a drive completely clean.
Can someone please tell me how to restore the other options?

Also since the reinstallation of Vista we have many games that once installed so see the as installed in the control panel in Add Remove programs but are not of anywhere in the computer in the list of programs or in a search?

    Thank you
    Wisfamily

    Hello WisFamily,

Thanks for posting on the forums.

Quick questions, did you use a Windows Vista DVD to perform a clean installation of Vista? You have a set of disks of restoration of the manufacturer of your computer or you have separate disks for Vista, Applications and drivers etc. ?  You've probably used your before restore disks to restore your computer to factory settings where it will be wipe your drive and perform a clean installation of Vista with your applications. Please check the disk set you have and check with the manufacturer on how to perform a full restore of your system.

Hope that helps, please post back and we do know.

  • Can you identify this element of Vista installed at the factory... it is hardware or software?

I have a desktop HP Pavilion Media Center under Windows Vista Home Premium. I am trying to solve a problem with the TV Tuner. I tried everything I can find to solve the problem, but without success. I just need an answer to this...

On the bottom of my computer, I see a list of hardware and software that has been installed at the factory. I am interested is displayed as "GENUINE WINDOWS VISTA HOME Premium TUNER DIGITAL".

My question: is - this software or hardware? If it is a software, I can't find to uninstall and reinstall, which is what I would do. If it is hardware, what it look like? I would like to locate and replace it.

    Thank you

Back to the original question, to which I have the answer. "GENUINE WINDOWS VISTA HOME Premium DIGITAL TUNER" is Microsoft Vista which is loaded on the hard drive. It is NOT hardware and software it's my operating system.

There is no guessing what is in my PCI-E slot. It's My Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT 1024 MB graphics card. There is no tuner embedded, or "video" as you call it.

To finalize my contributions to this post, I have fixed my original problem I came here looking for advice for in the first place. It's actually a corrupt Windows operating system file that runs my TV tuner, which caused all my problems. I reinstalled my Vista operating system to its original state, and now the TV tuner works fine.

Thank you for making at least an attempt to help out me. As you can see, over 6 billion people on the planet, only came forward... I appreciate it.

  • Microsoft Office (OEM) installed at the factory on a Dell computer

    Hello

I am extremely disappointed with Dell and Microsoft.

My 3 years old Inspiron 660 customer s had a hard drive failure. After replacing the hard drive, I proceeded to perform a factory restore. The recovery process has not worked!

I was afraid that my customer has paid a lot of money to buy Microsoft Office when he ordered from Dell in 2013. I talked to Dell support and they confirmed that the factory-installed software is not included in the recovery partition. Dell do not provide software disks. I then talked with Microsoft and they said that they provide no downloads for OEM, only commercial versions. In addition, they understand the dilemma of my client and are sorry.  Now it's *!

So here we have a classic situation where no company of billions of dollars will help a customer.

I wonder what other Dell customers do when they lose software because of the failure of the hard drive?

Thanks for listening to my rants.

  • FOUR installed at the factory DEFAULT to leave prevents the DUAL BOOT LINUX

    HP_TOOLS (F): 99 MB primary FAT32 Partition

Recovery (D primary NTFS Partition 21,28 GB)

Primary SYSTEM NTFS partition 199 MB

    I came across this link:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/Windows-7-disk-management-UTI...

I want to install linux in dual boot, but the link above from Microsoft, said a MAXIMUM of

    4 PRIMARY partitions is allowed.

Currently I already have FOUR primary partitions on my laptop HP as factory default PARTITION!

    What is the SYSTEM partition?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/what-are-system-boot-partitions#1TC=Windows-7

    Excerpts:

“.... The system partition contains the hardware and the startup folder indicating a computer where to look to start Windows. By default, Windows 7 creates a separate system partition when it is installed from scratch (as opposed to upgrading from a previous version of Windows) on an unpartitioned hard disk. This partition is 100 MB in size. “

Looks like I need to remove one of the main partition above.

And it also looks like my choices are:

    HP_TOOLS (F): 99 MB primary FAT32 Partition

Recovery (D primary NTFS Partition 21,28 GB)

What are the consequences of the removal of one of the scores of HP.

I suspect the HP_TOOLS above (F and recovery (D are dependent on each other.))

I understand, it's likely that I lose the ability to recover and have to reinstall windows directly from CD/DVD.

But I have TO install Linux in DUAL BOOT.

    What choices do I have?

    Please advice.

    Thank you.

Linux uses a different label than Windows. Windows using C, D, E... drive, but linux uses sda1, sda2, sda3 (sda means the disc and 1,2,3, partition) labels for partitions. The sda2 partition is probably the 100 MB system. Linux also uses different file systems incompatible with NTFS/FAT32 for Windows file systems. The most common are EXT2/3/4 and also swap which is something like a pagefile (pagefile.sys) on Windows. You can delete the partition HP_TOOLS of linux, but if everything works and you do not need more partitions don't do that. There are stored diagnostic utilities. However, you can create a USB key with the same properties as HP_TOOLS partition:

I don't know what happened to them and I'm not the sharpest on a computer but ok they are no where on the computer and I do not know exactly when they disappeared so I can't do a restore of the entire system.

Click Start or press the Windows key and type optionalfeatures.exe then the .

When the Windows features dialog box comes up and ends to populate its list, check the State of the option of games .

    1. If it is checked, uncheck the box, click OK , and then restart the computer. Retrace your steps for this dialog box and save. This should uninstall and reinstall all the games that you have controlled.
    2. If it is not checked, check it. This will install the package of games in option.
