Hard disk failure and recovery of the operating system

I have a model p6310f desktop that had a hard drive failure.  I bought an SSD and install.  I looked for a recovery disk; However, I have not found one.  I was told that the recovery disc is on the hard drive in a separate partition.  Is this really the case?  If so, how can I access the recovery if the hard drive is still not recognized?

Thank you

Recovery media is available on your Support page. Scroll the list of the drivers/software to see the possibility of ordering.

Be aware that recovery discs do not always work on an SSD - if the capacity is much smaller than the original hard drive and SSD size wasn't an option initially offered on your model. You could make your own Windows 7 installation dvd in this case, as long as you have the intact lable on cases with license key. Let me know if you want to try this option.

  • When installing a new operating system isn't automatically wipe the hard disk, create a new partition, and then install the operating system?

Have a Dell system, caught a virus and it has really messed up the PC. Recently, it got worse so I tried to reinstall the operating system with the Dell disks. It wouldn't work. So I bought for Windows 7 Professional, it will not be installed. My first question when installing a new operating system isn't automatically wipe the hard disk, create a new partition, and then install the operating system? Because this does the same as the Dell disks, is to take what is on the hard drive and put it in a folder called windows old, is not formatting the HD. When I boot the disk, it shows the installation of files then open windows and start the installation. Before he could finish I get an error missing or corrupted files. Tried several times now, windows will still not open. Any suggestions? Once while trying to install the pc crashed with a blue screen which is one of the reasons why I have reinstall the OS, he started to plant a few times. I don't remember all the details on my PC, but its 4 years, triple core coprocessors, ram 8 GB, 500 GB HD. At the same time just after all this started in Jan. I had also improved my 3 GB to 8 GB memory. I bought the Dell memory for my system. Since the crash, could there be a problem with these new memory chips? Last night I tried to disassemble each and reinstalling it, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Before I tried to reinstall the operating system, the pc was see the concert 8.

Disconnect any other (additional) internal hard drives and external USB devices.
Look for any loose hard drive power or cables SATA, graphics card or other power cables.

    First run Memtest86 +:
It runs from a floppy disk or CD and should eliminate or confirm if one or more of your memory

Let it run for as long as you can: 2,4,6,8 or several hours (at least 3 full passes), so no errors at that time then your ram is OK.

  • The recovery disks 2 wear all of the operating system?

I have an old HP Pavilion a1220in PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I also found a set of recovery disks in the box.

I've had a lot of problems with my OS now, for most trolling, hanging, etc. So, I ran a few Cache cleaning applications and cleaned. Tried to use Antivirus, but it gets even slower PC, so I left this option. Once he went continuously bootloops, which was the first time I used the recovery disc. There were two options, the only thing that I can remember in their subject is one killed all the data and the other is not.

Once, the score (who wore the recovery image) has been altered and the same problem of bootloop took place again once, so this time I could not choose recover the PC. The only option he gave me was that destroyed all the data.

Now, I want to change the operating system for some versions of Linux. But before that, I want to know that where I want to go back to Windows, will these DVDs help me? I mean, they will be able to install all of the operating system for me?

  • hard drive failure and replacement of the laptop pavilion dv6-1000

It seems that the hard drive has failed in the laptop.  When I run a test gives me a message 3f0 and hard drive does not exist.  Tried to start the repair system and the operating system not found.  Would fix with the image of the system.  No found boot device.  Conclusion: new hard drive required.  The laptop drive is a seagate momentus 320 GB 5400,6.    Do I have to replace it with a new seagate or can I use a Western Digital with the same 320 GB, 5400 rpm?  Thank you in advance.

    Hello:

WD should be fine and if you want to use a disc 7 200 RPM faster seek time (at a small cost of battery life between charges) you can go with this too.

  • How can I put in a new hard drive to replace the main HD that crashed and that contains the operating system

My HD C: broke down and needs to be replaced.  It contained the operating system (XP).  My other drive is OK.  I have all the original cdroms, including the operating system.
I need to know if I should be careful what it is.

    Hello Nigel

Each hard drive is different with their adjustment as far as riders go unless you have purchased the same exact model. Make sure that you set the jumpers on the correct setting for the new hard drive with the manual that came with the hard drive. You can also reconnect the cables of data and power supply for the reader who does not appear because they can be loosened.
  • How to create only a recovery of the operating system?

I understand Recovery Manager installs everything, including the factory etc. applications. I just bought a new HP desktop computer and I am interesting to have only an operating system recovery disks or method to install OS only from the recovery disc.

    Is this possible?

If this is not the case-how can I get support for the operating system that came with the computer?

    Thank you

    Hello

You should find that you have the ability to perform a system restore minimized when you use Recovery Manager who will just reinstall the operating system and the original, but without the additional software drivers.

However, what I think personally is a better option is to create a System Image - the main advantage of this is that you can get the operating system exactly as you wish (all updates/service packs applied, all software installed, personal files, etc.) and then create the image.  This way, if you need to reinstall, you get the PC to exactly the State in which it was when you created the image.  It's even easier with Windows 7, as the possibility of creating a System Image is built.  See the guide below for details.

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-Windows-7/

I strongly recommend to always create your recovery discs - you are not too sure.

  • Why the books are grouped and preinstalled with the operating system?

    It's complaints

My Portege has Windwosw Vista. I didn't want to buy Vista, but they were only selling with him and no other choice was possible to purchase.

First of all, my laptop had problems to install Windows updates. I could not connect my institution's Internet System. I had to reinstall the system again.
    It's a waste of time!

After re-installation of the button for the sound on the outside Panel does not work correctly.

Also, when I try to stop the laptop sometimes it restarts itself - he doesn't stop!

Secondly, I had a problem with the laptop, when an opportunity to visit a well-known site, it serves to block itself.
Once, when he is blocked, I had to restart and its screen remained black. They took for repair. It was delivered later - repaired, but with a defect on the screen!
    What a... workers!

When I bought this laptop he had an offer with the update of Vista with Windows 7 after their release.
Wonderful. But just note, Toshiba has the highest price of the offer, compared to its competitors - 30 (or £) against 15 for others, which of course I'm not going to pay.

I already paid for Vista, which is incredible, and I knew, but I had not choice not to buy!

All right, so there is still competition in the market, several possibilities are present - install Windows cracked, switch to Linux or just buy an Apple!

Please, take this comment seriously! And please, stop with group buying, no matter what the benefit is. It won't work for long.

    Hi mate

Fact is that most of the laptop manufacturers sell the computer and laptop computer with a preinstalled operating system. So I wouldn't blame Toshiba or other brands for which

You get a new computer/laptop with a new OS.
During the past 20 years, Microsoft released 3.0 Win, Win 95, Win 98, Win NT, W2k, Win XP, Win ME, Vista and Win 7, I remember that all my computers or laptops were grouped with these operating systems

Toshiba offers the notebook with a clean image and you can also create a recovery disk (so don t need to buy anything if you need t n)
Of course, each of us can install a clean OS, but there are a lot of people who are happy with such image pre-installed because everything is pre-installed and configured.

Many people have no knowledge of computer wide and are really recognizing that everything is pre-installed and the configuration does not have a lot of time

    With regard to the question of the laptop;
What to say; you had a bad luck that something was wrong with the laptop. This can still happen that my new LCD TV other manufacturer, was dead after two weeks, I called ASP, then replaced the screen now is ok

  • Replaced the HARD drive, but can not reinstall the operating system

    Evening,

I replaced the HARD drive on my laptop and used the sony recovery media kit, but the error message "can not configure windows to run on this hardware of computers.

The HARD drive is a Toshiba of the same style and size. Sony sent me two sets of disks, I replaced the HARD drive twice still have exactly the same problem.

Any ideas before using it as a target would be useful.

    Thank you

    C

It is possible that the new hard drive, you bought are 4 k sectors and not 512 KB, which is necessary to make it work properly.  If you have a practical clean Windows installation disc that give a try and see if you encounter the same error...

    Hello

    Background

I have a laptop and desktop PC - both running Windows XP Home (version 2002).  I haven't used the old office for about 2 years (that I bought a new desktop computer with Windows Vista) - but I still use the laptop.
