Hello

If you have deleted the recovery on the hard drive partition, you need the whole order of recovery discs using the link below - the cost varies a bit depending on where in the world you live.

Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

Describes how to use these recovery disks to reinstall Windows 8 here.

It was very similar to Windows XP, but for all information users tend to use Everest or Belarc Advisor for additional information not available. Everest has been best Bellarc advice but they ceased to offer tan updated free version. However, the 2.20 version is always available from third-party sites.

I need a driver for a Maxtor 3200 external hard drive compatible with windows 7

I just got a chat session with a Seagate tech (formerly Maxtor).  He said that the Maxtor 3200 s/n I made in 2006 don't is NOT supported by Win7 and never will be.  I just bought the year last from Radio Shack for about $80,00.  If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to try.  I read a blog by which this guy has followed this procedure and it worked, said: let HD; Start Win7; Turn on HD; restart the pc (NOT reboot).  Who has not worked for me.

  • Wiping Hard Drive, Reinstalled with Windows 7 with upgrade disk product key error

My computer has been acting upward, so I back up hard drive and erased the hard drive with the BACK CLEAN ALL command. I then reinstalled windows 7 from my Windows 7 Upgrade disk and restore my files on hard disk. The computer works fantastic and returned half of the memory of the hard drive. A few days later, I get a message on the screen that I have 30 days left until I can produce a product key from the original Windows installation, does not accept the upgrade product key.

I tried the product key located on the bottom of my laptop for Windows Vista comes with the HP computer. It does not work and it gave me no disk backup for Windows Vista from HP.

I called Microsoft and they told me to contact HP for the product key. I see on this forum that someone else has written a similar plea, because it is a plea, and HP said to contact Microsoft. In other words, Microsoft says to contact HP and HP says to contact Microsoft.

I use Microsoft since Windows 3.2 operating systems and have bought a lot of products of them. It's my 3rd HP laptop, my wife is on her 2nd HP laptop. Well you know what? If I don't get this resolved quickly by one of your companies, and I'm not remember Microsoft, I'm through the two of you.

I don't see where Microsoft is not being fooled off but when it's to the detriment of a loyal customer, so don't worry. HP is also responsible for this. An upgraded version of Windows 7 (to upgrade from Vista or XP) should be smart enough (and I thought it was) to remember that I had the original version and its product key should be enough. Also I don't never told me that I had to keep the old product keys, and it doesn't matter anyway because the product key is always available in my laptop HP, but it does not work.

I'm not buying another HP without your help and actually buying an Apple Mac for my wife and my next computer if it is not resolved. I think that HP is probably as bad as Microsoft so that it will not be solved and I'm not shelling out more money for something I already own.

  • This is my 3 TB external hard drive compatible with Windows Vista?

I have a LaCie Big Disk Quadra 3 TB GPT formatted the drive I will use and would like to know if it is compatible with Vista. The drive came formatted for Mac OSX so with Windows XP pre, I could just format the drive in NTFS but the max for NTFS volume size is 2 TB, so I need to reformat the drive with the GPT file system in order to use all 3 TB of space.

I keep seeing on the net that only Windows Vista Enterprise x 64, Windows Vista Ultimate x 64 will recognize superior GPT then 2 TB volumes, and elsewhere on the net that I see that any version of Windows Vista and Windows XP x 64 will recognize superior GPT volumes then 2 TB, I just want to know which is the real?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 64, incidentally.

    Hello Elecrtolight, welcome.

Microsoft's KB article goes into details about the features of the type non - MBR disks reading operating system:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/GPT_FAQ.mspx

Here is what I believe to be much relevant information of this article:

    Support of Windows XP disc

EFI is needed for a GPT disk?
    # GPT disks are automatic identification. All the information needed to interpret the schema of a GPT disk partitioning is fully in the structures of the locations specified on the physical media.

How big can a GPT disk be?
In theory, a GPT disk can be up to 2 ^ 64 logical blocks in length. Logical blocks are generally size of 512 bytes.

The maximum size of the partition (disc) is a function of the operating system version. The original version of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP have a limit of 2 TB per physical disk, including all partitions. For Windows Server 2003 SP1 Windows XP x 64 edition and later versions, the maximum raw score of 18 exabytes may be supported. (Windows file systems are currently limited to 256 terabytes each.)

How many partitions can be a GPT disk?
The specification allows a virtually unlimited number of partitions, but the implementation of Windows this restricted to 128 partitions. The number of partitions is limited by the amount of space reserved for the partition entries in the MODEL.

A disc may be the GPT and MBR?
N ° however, all GPT disks contains a MBR of protection.

Can Windows XP x 64 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
Windows XP x 64 Edition can use GPT disks for data only. Only windows for Itanium systems can boot from GPT partitions.

The 32-bit version of Windows XP can read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
N ° 32-bit version will only see the MBR of protection. The EE partition is not mounted or otherwise exposed to application software.

The 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 can read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
All versions of Windows 2003 since Server Pack 1 can use GPT partitioned the disk for data. The start-up is only supported for Itanium systems.

Can Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
Yes, all versions can use GPT partitioned for data discs. The boot is supported only for EFI systems.

Can you Windows 2000, Windows NT 4, or Windows 95/98, read, write, and boot from GPT?
N ° once again, the old software will only see the MBR of protection.

Let us know if this helps,

    Thank you!

  • External hard drive formatted with Linux OS

The external hard drive can be seen in devices and tested as working properly, but not seen in a different folder on my computer, can not be opened. In addition, the system says that all drivers are installed.

The drive is formatted with a Linux file system, probably ext3 or ext4.  Assuming that there are no files that you want to, you must delete all partitions, repartition the disk, and then the NTFS format.   These operations are done on disk management.  You can access by right-clicking on computer and select manage or control panel, administrative tools, computer management - Storage / Disk Management.

Be careful!  Make sure that you work with the right drive. Right click on the drive to see the options.

Note also, sometimes, these operations do not work through a USB adapter and it may be necessary to connect the SATA hard drive.

  • Is it Possible to share a HARD disk drive (with a KNOWN password) protected between ThinkPads?

    Greetings,

I spilled a drink sweet in my X 200, fence it beyond all repair.  The X 200 hard drive has ONLY one disk HARD password bios I created and you know.  To try to recover my files from hard drive of the X 200, I removed the disk and inserted into my T60.  When I turned on the T60, I got the usual HARD disk password prompt.  However, when I entered the password (all tiny, no special characters or non-English speaking, and which I know is quite OK), I had the symbol of the incorrect password.  I turned off the machine and repeat this process.  After the second attempt, I saw the password prompt with a closed hand.

Later, I followed a procedure recommended by Lenovo to clear the password (do not think that I am allowed to post a link): enter the password followed by a space.  That did not work.

I wonder if HARD drive pasword protected drive of the X 200 is somehow related to this particular machine and can not, as I had always supposed, be exchanged in another machine and accessible by entering the correct password.

I also wonder if I can have permanantly me locked out the reader by making too many attempts "invalid."

(Edited to add additional information and to make the more descriptive subject that it was originally).

    LongtimeTPOwner, welcome to the forum,

Sorry to hear about your situation remove the password must be possible in another X 200 or even another ThinkPad at the same time system for example, T400, T500,... etc.

A consideration that you would like to take a look is the password parameter in the menu BIOS password; If it is set differently on the T60 of how this has been put on the X 200 it could present problems according to the password used, especially if it's "special characters".

    Edit; typo

  • How to migrate a Vista hard disk on a Windows 7 computer?

    Hello

I just got a new xps of 8700 minitower with windows 7.

-Can I just disconnect the hard drive from vista to an optiplex 755 and add it to the new machine xps as a second hdd?

-This will automatically create a dual boot option?

Not better or worse, they are still too dissimilar to count on anything whatsoever, and the 9020 is much more recent.  It may be able to load the drivers, he needs on the fly, but probably not.  You must also manually add Vista bootloader of Windows 7.  In addition, you still wouldn't be the license/right to execute your OEM Vista on another computer (downgrade rights would run Vista Business only as a downgrade from Windows 7 Pro only).

    How can I do this?

    Option 1:

Download the. ISO file on a work computer such as who you are now and:

a: burn it to a blank DVD and install from it using your DVD player, if his work

b: or create a USB bootable with the installation files, see the instructions below.

Is it possible to download windows on a USB key and plug it into the other computer?

    Yes, you can.

Also, when I have the new windows can I use Microsoft Word on the old broken hard drive? I still have the DVD and the code that came with it!

    Yes, you can.

Once you have the .iso file, they may want to use the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a DVD or bootable USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash to at least 4 GB key).

    Thank you

  • Hard disk formatted, freshly installed Windows 8, but it does not work with the old key

I had bought a Lenovo Z570 two years back, with Original Windows 7 Home Premium.

When Windows 8 released in November 2012, I had bought and upgraded online for her.

I had used the Windows 8 since then. Yesterday, due to various problems, I had to format my hard drive, and when I finally managed to install Windows 8 on my laptop again, it does not allow me to activate windows 8 using my normal key (he says that this key did not work)

It was the key in the email from the seller, and I have an e-mail, which has a Bill to prove.
I guess this could be due to the PC 1 by purchase clause, however, it's the same PC (more like laptop). So I do not understand why I would not be allowed to activate the software I used earlier on the same laptop still on the same laptop after installing it.

Please get to me as soon as possible if there is a solution.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey! Thanks for your help, but I had refreshed my windows 8 in the meantime and connected to the internet after that. and then when I followed your instructions and run slui.exe, it says that windows is activated. so I guess that the problem is solved.
