Hard disk partition error

I have an external hard drive that is partitioned into 2 drives recently I plugged in and saw that one of my player does not show their name of file system is displayed but size and other information are not visible, it opens either, the other drive works fine, what do I do if I want the data intact?

Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
This is not possible because there is an error in the HARD drive partition. I suggest to save the data of the second partition and do a clean format, with a single partition and try to use it. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer, it may require repair.

  • Re: Satellite Pro L - Eventviewer displays HARD disk controller error

I've had problems for at least two months, with slowing down, freezing same blueys etc. and eventviewer tells me that I have a HARD disk controller error. Now when I check the device it tells me - as do the dealers - work correctly, but after a chkdsk problem erases only coming later. My Toshiba characteristic of diagnosis does not work so I can't check without the use of a third-party application which I am very reluctant to do.

I am now lost for what to do given my position of dealers who fell to something I've done / downloaded etc. All the world has any ideas on how I can get my diag back function or other than eventviewer / chkdsk to identify what's wrong?

The machine is only 10 months with 500HDD core i5, 4 GB of RAM under Windows 7 Professional and Kasersky Pure as my ISS. I use it for general use at home and the little that is worrrying me is that even though my previous Toshiba had a HARD drive crash and had to be replaced - I might have to do a factory default or worse go format and just load a new OS on or get the drive HARD replaced at my expense ($450 last time). The drive is a Toshiba MK5055GSX and looking around locally can not see where we could be contained--if I have to.

It has become a nightmare, and even if I took an additional guarantee that feeling of time will run out before that I get something on this subject.
Any help would be so appreciated.

    Hi johndragon46,

I put t know what laptop you have exactly, but the fact is if the Eventviewer indicates an error of HARD disk controller it can be both: HARD drive itself or HDD motherboard controller.

You wrote that your laptop is only 10 months old then why n t contact you authorized service provider? Your laptop should still be under warranty and that means an ASP can fix your computer laptop free time guaranteed.

By the way: list of authorized service providers, you can find on the official website of Toshiba

    Good luck! :)

    Hello

It seems that HDD might not be partitioned correctly.
Perhaps the HARD drive is not ok?

Check if the HARD drive is recognized and listed in the BIOS.
If the HARD drive is not listed, then the HARD drive is dead and must be replaced.

If the HARD disk is listed, then there might be a problem with the HARD drive partition table
You could test the HARD drive by using a tool called Drive Fitness Test.

You can also try to format the HARD drive first. You could fix this HARD drive on another computer by using a USB HDD controller. This allows you to access the HARD disk and format this drive

  • Satellite 300CDT: number of HARD disk - partitions show only 4 GB

I have an old Satellite 300CDT, I can't support it appears not yet listed on the Toshiba site.
I have added a new hard drive and bought a 40 GB drive, but it will only show 4 GB per partition.
I want 2 partitions that I have and in fdisk I said 50% for each but it only shows 4GB each even though it says support big readers.
    I'm running Windows Me.
Is it possible for an old laptop of this type to display the size of the hard drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

Did you use the FAT32 or NTFS?
I use partition Magic 8 to do and to manage the partitions on the HARD disk.
In my opinion, you should try this program. I think that using the PM8 you will get the total size of the HARD drive.

  • Satellite A200 - Question on RAM and HARD disk partitions

Maybe it's in the wrong section... I do not know.

I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).

The thing is that I have to format and partition differently (since I dual boot Linux) and need to create a structure more like 40,40,100 or such. (100 in fat32, so data is available for both)

Now I wonder what data should I keep these readers. There is a folder called Toshiba on the C:\ drive that seems to have the drivers and such, some wallpapers and who knows what else. Then there's the WinRE called D: drive which has a kind of sdi and wim files.

Another question, if I buy the 2 GB that is listed in the compatible options for my laptop (A200 - 28 p)
    Link: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/individualOptions.do?service=UK&OPTION_ID=138301&t oshibaShop = true & SelCategorie = 4700]
It will match the 2 GB already in the laptop? It will void the warranty anyway?

    Hello

    > I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).
I assume you are using Vista.
The 2 GB partition is a hidden partition which contains the data and the backup files in Vista. This partition will be automatically created during the installation of Vista.

    On the other partition 90GB.
Well, this partition (partition of data) can be used to store files such as photos, movies, personal documents, etc. it s always recommended to partition a large HDD in more partition. This improves performance because the OS can access files much faster.

Of course, you can change the size of the partitions. In Vista, you can change this in disk management.

    Regarding the upgrade of RAM;
The laptop seems to supports the Intel® PM965 chipset and it manages 4 GB of RAM. It seems that you could use a 2 GB of RAM in one slot.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M40 does not start from hard disk - read error

"I push the button - briefly see the In Touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA screen - then ' + a disk read error occurred press Ctrl Alt Del to restart +".

I control alt delete brings me briefly on the screen TOSHIBA where I can choose either F2 or F12.

Do I need a startup disk and where can I get one in order to boot from the CD ROM?
Do I try to get into the Satellite M40 product Recovery DVD-ROM - this concern for me as the hard drive will be reformatted and all data will be lost.

    I'm stuck please help!

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

    Good bye

  • Satellite P300 - question about HARD Disk Partition

    Hello.

I just bought a P300-1 Satellite has very nice portable 8. Everything has been restored to the original state. The thing is, I'm sure someone has resized the partition of HARD drive on the disk "D". It has a 160 GB hard drive, but the "D" drive is showing only 54 GB. I would like to reduce the size to give me maximum space on the 'C' drive but worried that it might affect the "HDD Recovery" folder that exists on this subject.

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much

Create recovery DVDs using Toshiba Recovery creator tool. After doing this, you can do with disk partitions you want.
One day, if you want to reinstall Vista and have the factory settings, you can use this created DVD facilities.

Please note: before installation of Vista drive HARD whole lance and ancient structure of the partitions is deleted. Data back up are required.

  • HARD disk partition

I bought Dell inspiron 5547 with a hard disk of 1 TB with windows 8.1 but to manage my data I need three hard disk drives. so my questions are:

    1. What is the best way to divide still more the hard drive into two parts more for windows 8.1 has already been installed on the hard disk.
    2. Here are the disadvantages of this new division of the hard disk to the windows, applications or in the system it self.

Please post the disk map produced by the Disk Manager for more information.

No problem in principle. You can reduce the size of the partition to the OS (C:, Windows). This will leave unallocated space after the new partition to the OS. In this space, you can create additional data partitions.

In principle, this can be done with Windows Disk Manager, although this program has restrictions to reduce the size of the partitions. If this concerns you, you can use another partition manager.

  • Dell XPS 8700 HARD disk partition

Can someone tell me if the above is partitioned in C and D drives and their size. I currently own a XPS 8100 with 63 GB C (50 GB, BONE) and the 180 GB D drive. It is a great computer, but constantly running out of space on the C drive. It runs Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Think to update on the 8700 but don't want to go down the same route. Could not get any sense on the Dell sales people.

    Hello

About partitioning, Dell can't shrink or extend partition as it can end up losing data.

However guests can use various 3rd party free software as "Partition manager" we relieve 'Partition Master' etc.

Please search for free partitioning software hard disk in Google, you will find the top free software

And 8700 XPS machines, the size varies according to the type of hard drive and the configuration you order with the PC.

    Thank you

If you get a SMART error, then your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.

  • Disk utility was unable to repair the Time Machine USB2 external HARD disk partition?

    Hello.

My client has problem with its USB2 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go since early 2010. There 2 partitions: FAT32 and HFS (for most Time Machine backups). After connection and enter its password valid successfully, it takes a minute to set up, and then a message that says "OS X cannot repair the «...» "You can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I ran disk with their verification utility. Both are problems with "invalid sibling link" and said the repair option. However, this repair option is grayed out.  So, is it not possible to fix it with free software on the disk except for the reformat?

I used two different 15 "MacBook Pro (Mac OS X v10.8.5/Mt. mid-2012 lion and v10.10.5/Yosemite of the early 2013) with the same results, is not the MacBook Pros. http://imgur.com/a/OW0s6 for a couple screen
s (shooting/capture) of Mac OS X v10.10.5/Yosemite. I also tried disk on its FAT32 partition checks, and found minor problems. They were repairable too unlike the encrypted HFS partition.

    Thank you in advance.

Disk utility can't repair an error of invalid sibling link. You use Disk Warrior that assuming that the disk is always good. Otherwise, you will need to save what you can then reformat the hard drive. Exactly what the error message said.

  • the hard disk partition

Walk in which I installed windows is running out of space. It has crippled the performance of my computer

I have hard time to do the partition of my drive.

Please show me the way to do it.

I assume you mean to resize your partition or ghost your current drive on another drive.

What is the total size of the hard drive?

What is the size of the partition you have Windows installed on?

You can find files that might be wasting space that are no longer needed.  Microsoft disk cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) provides at least some basis in first to clean up the files.

Often users have of many "Windows Error Reporting" and size of memory/application dump files that can be considerably.

  • When the reduction of HARD Disk Partition, receiving the message: "the parameter is incorrect."

Original title: HDD Partition "parameter is incorrect".

When I want to partition my hard drive, I go into disk management, I right click on my hard drive and I select shrink. But when I finish all the wizard who give me: "" choose the size of the partition / the letter of the partition "but she say"incorrect parameter"and the capacity of the HARD drive, just go down with this title that I use for the new volume, and the new volume does not appear."

    Hi diamond,

What number you specify in the wizard as amount that should be decreased?

The error "the parameter is Incorrect" is an indication that the drive is in use or the partition has been corrupted.

    Method 1:

Check if you are able to see/access volume shrunk in safe mode.

Start your computer in safe mode

For more information, see the links:

    Shrink a Basic Volume

Easily reduce a Volume on a Windows 7 disc

Note: Make sure that you have a backup of important data on the system.

    Method 2:

You can try to run the disk check and check if it helps.

Check your hard drive to find errors in Windows 7

Important: When running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.
