Hard drive clicking on a program with slow loading

I have a HP Pavilion ze2000 running Windows XP. When I first put it, I hear a clicking of the area of the hard drive noise. When this happens, the machine boots very slowly. Once it is completely initialized, it works fine until I open a new program. The program is loading very slowly, but works great once it is. When I restart the machine, it will work normally.

He began to arrive about three weeks ago. Whenever I start the machine cold, she clicks and runs slow. After that I have it reboot, it works normally.

I ran the BIOS hard drive test and Windows disk check on the HDD and it passes all the tests. The hard drive is a Samsung HM160HC. He was in the machine, since I bought it used, but only started clicking in the las three weeks.

Today, I reloaded the operating system of the ERD. All BONES and McAfee updates management. Then put it in my backpack, took to work, plugged in and turned on. He still had the rattling noise until I rebooted.

I've seen a few posts who accuse the noise from the CPU fan. If that were the case, why would programs load slowly but operate normally? And how you would test it?

I don't want to replace the HD if I do not, but what can I do else?

Thanks for any advice,

Mike in Indy

Final solution: I replaced the HM160HC drive with a new same model. Reloaded the OS from scratch and it works perfectly for 3 days so far.

The moral? Clicking on hard drives are bad, and you should count yourself lucky if they work long enough for you to backup your data before it is replaced.

  • URL clicked in other programs will not load in Firefox

Only in the last weeks of 1-3 (?) or so, I find that I can not click on links in other programs and have load URL in Firefox, which is my default browser. They always used to load perfectly and move me to the new tab in FF, but now they do not have.

At first I tried to disable some recent FF modules one at a time to see if one of them could have been the problem, but that does not resolve, even though I may have missed one. Yet, I can't imagine how an independent add-on could cause URLs do not load from other programs. I tried to load the URL by clicking on it in Thunderbird, WordPad, MailWasher Pro and free agency, but each of them either just trembled at the screen for a moment and then stopped, or gave me a message such as 'WordPad could not open the URL' or ' there was a problem sending a command to the program "(free agency). However, when I copy and paste these URLS even in FF and press ENTER, these sites load perfectly.

I may be wrong in the present, but it seems that something has changed in the FF that now prevents the links clicked in other programs from loading. My only other thought at the moment, it's that this peut eventually began all the time I upgraded from FF 10.0.2 to FF 11.0.1, but I have no evidence to support this theory.

It's really an annoying problem and embarrassing, so any help to solve it will be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Al

The problem is solved now, as a result of assistance that I'm on WindowsSecrets forum. Once I realized that the problem occurred only with PCM and Thunderbird, but with other programs as well (I tried WordPad and free agency, which didn't even load the URL in Firefox), I posted the question on other forums, trying to see if others knew something about this issue. I got the answer of a member of the forum on this page:

       http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/145441-URLs-clicked-in-other-programs-won-t-load-in-Firefox?p=847784#post847784

In case you are not a member it or may not load this page, here is her suggestion:

With FF closed type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the start menu search box, click the item that appears and delete localstore.rdf FF will replace it on starting.

I did this and all four programs that had previous problems loading of the URL, including MWC, now load them perfectly. The only (small) problem with this solution was localstore.rdf apparently saves all information about things like the Firefox toolbars and their customization, so all that was lost when I deleted the file, but I re-adapted quite quickly and everything is fine. Any thoughts about what localstore.rdf does, why this problem happened, or how to do to prevent it happening again will be appreciated.

I hope this info helps. Thanks again for your help.

    Kind regards
    Al

  • After saving documents to an external hard drive, some of my programs are missing on my computer. I can't find Outlook Express.

I've been to the export of all my documents to an external hard drive all day... when I got back, some of my programs have disappeared too, especially my outlook express with all my emails (for the last ten years), is not in the programs, or in the menu... where at - it go?

original title: outlook express to go?

Have you looked in the control panel I suggested?

    1: enable hidden files.

Select Show files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

2: go to * c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe *. If you find, right-click on it and send to | Desktop (create shortcut). You can open OE?

If you can't find that, at the very least, you will need to do a repair installation, or perhaps to reinstall XP completely.

  • Hard drive clicking - Satellite-U940-100

    Hi people,

I bought a new computer laptop just 5 days back and I hear a noise clicking a few seconds apart. Here's what it looks like: [https://soundcloud.com/user506186265/toshiba-u940-clicking-sound]

Can someone help me diagnose the sound, what is it and why it is happening?

In this case every hour and is troubling in a quiet environment. Because I intend to keep the laptop for more than a few years I'm afraid that the hard drive won't be able to very soon. If I can't solve this properly before November 20, 2013 I intend to return to the where I bought the laptop.

    Thanks for your help!

    I agree with Timox
The sound seems to create a HARD drive head during the read/write of data from the hard drive.
This is nothing unusual. As mentioned by Timox; some HARD drive are stronger, some are quieter.

In case you want to change the HARD drive in the future: I recommend you choose an SSD.
It s much faster and SSD drives don't produce sounds

  • Equium L40 - 10Z hard drive click on stronger than habit/expected

I would say a good 2 - 3 times stronger than my old laptop. I should talk with the store (I bought only yesterday) or it is part of the design? Thank you.

    Hello.
I just did a bios update for my Satellite A100 PSAA9, and after that I started to hear a few clicks on the hard drive, from time to time. They appear very often, but I would like to know why they started!

The bios update was published in 26/11/2007.
Does anyone have the same problem?

    Thank you.

I put t think it has something to do with the BIOS update.
I put t don't know how old you HDD is but maybe that click concern only the HARD drive hardware problem

There are several times in my HARD disk created similar clique and sounds but it s runs great
I didn't noticed any hardware problem however, we cannot exclude a hardware problem and therefore, you should back up important data to prevent the files from damage.

It seems that the hard drive is about to quit smoking. The click is a sign. Better make a backup in case he decides to stop working.

  • My new hard drive (from HP) will come with windows?

Basically, my hard drive is "close to collapse" and HP will send me a new one I am still under warranty. My laptop is so slow that it takes about 30 minutes to open and start a backup system, which fails for some reason any.

I managed to transfer my music and work in a USB port, I don't mind losing all the other stuff I have.

I have free anti-VRUS and run windows7 starter. Should I keep trying to save my hardrive so that I can keep the windows or the hardrive will come with it, in which case I'm not worth it.

    -Sorry if this is hard to understand, I have a problem, try to explain what I mean > _<. if="" you="" don't="" get="" what="" i'm="" saying="" please="" ask="" so="" that="" i="" can="" be="" more="" specfic...="" thanks="" in="" advance="">

    Edit:

I'm assuming that windows is kept on the disk and not the real computer. I don't know what I'm talking about more.

    Hello:

Since your laptop is still under warranty, you can call HP and ask if you can get the discs sent free.

If a game costs in the neighborhood of $16.00.

You will receive a set of numbered discs (I don't know how much - not less 2).

After you have installed the hard drive and test to make sure it works, you can insert the disc labeled disk 1 in the DVD player, restart the computer and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, you press the F9 key to access the one time boot menu. Select the DVD drive and you should then see a message on the screen indicating in substance... «to try to boot from DVD...» Press any key to boot from the DVD... »

Press a button and your recovery disk should start loading. Then simply follow the instructions on the screen.

  • "Delayed write failed" message keeps appearing to external hard drive (WD passport) and problems with suggest fix kb908673 (register edit).

    I had problems with my WD usb hard drive, where a "delayed write failed" message keeps appearing when the transfer of files to or from it. Among the fixes suggested on the WD support site is a link to kb908673, and this seems to sum up my problem. This fix is included in sp3, I believe, however, the fix indicates that a manual registry editing needs to be done;

"After you install this hotfix, the following registry subkey is automatically added and configured:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB\EnSoftRetry

The registry key is configured with a DWORD value of 1. This value allows the Soft-Retry code path that is used in this hotfix.

"If you install a later version of the patch (a patch that contains later versions of Usbport.sys and Usbehci.sys), including Windows XP SP3, this registry value not be automatically added and configured. The registry value must be manually added and configured as described above to activate the Soft-Retry code path that is provided in this hotfix. »

I don't have this registry subkey and have no idea how to do to configure a key to have a DWORD value - I can create as a registry entry DWORD value in this key, but it must be given a name. Should I create a DWORD value called "EnSoftRetry" in the USB, or should I create a DWORD value in the EnSoftRetry key and, if so, what should it be called? Or am I completely misunderstanding something here?

  • crashed hard drive... need help with original windows 7 Home premium 64-bit on new h.d.

a win 7 64bits h.p... a h.d. failure... installed a new h.d. which had vista (sp2) h.p. on and I want my windows 7 back... is there anyway to give the product I.D. is on the side of my Tower for the microsoft 7 windows that has crashed and I would like to download a copy on the new hard drive? IM wondering if I need a proof of ownership or what anyone like that I bought from a friend's computer and its probably not in my name... I was wondering if this is a problem major and if theres nothing I can do... maybe download a new copy and just enter the product ID I don't know... IM really not too tech saavy... any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you

So what you want to do is put windows 7 to replace windows vista on your new hard drive?

Step 1: Download the ISO file.
You will need a cache of DVD or a USB flash drive (3 GB or better), if you insert a DVD, then it will ask you if you want to use it with a DVD player or a usb flash drive. Check the box to a DVD player or something similar to this. With a flash drive, you don't have to worry about setting up or anything.
Download the ISO of windows 7 Home premium 64-bit.
Be patient as it can take an hour to download on a medium speed wifi connection.
Step 2: Burn the disk image to a DVD
Now that you will burn the ISO on DVD once it's done. To do than go to where ever you downloaded the ISO on your computer and right-click on the ISO file. Now click on burn the disk image.
Make sure your DVD is inserted. When asked what disc burner, select the drive that you inserted the DVD in. If you have only 1 DVD player you should have only 1 option. Now hit burn and go get coffee or something while you wait.
Burn the image on a USB flash drive
But if you don't have a DVD, you can always use a USB flash drive.
You need to download Universal USB install
Now open universal USB install and it will ask you to choose a Linux distro. Keep scrolling down until you find "software based on other or non-linux".
Select windows 7 Setup from there. Now step 2 hit browse and find where you downloaded the ISO image. Now, select your USB flash drive letter. It takes only 1 option. And click on create. And when it asks you if you want to format? Click Yes.
DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR FLASH DRIVE PROBABLY ALL THAT FILES WILL BE DELETED IN THIS PROCESS
Step 3: Boot from your DVD or USB
Restart your computer, and while it loads the bios, it must be said somewhere boot options. And there will be a F1, F2, F3, or some F key to enter the boot options.
After that, select the USB flash drive or a DVD drive to start. You will get to the windows installation and you can install windows 7.
It will ask you your product key. It is in any way illegal.
  • Windows 7 sees no hard drive in the installation program

    MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

BIOS recognizes the hard drive SATA and IDE is set.

HD is installed in channel 6.

Hard drive was working fine before I reformated using the installation disc and am not convinced that it is a hard drive failure.

I can access the drive on CMD in the full version of Windows 7 dvd.

I reformatted the hard drive from the RAW to NTFS format, but did not have any partitioning prior to formatting. I don't know how to partition on a Virgin HD no OS.

The MB is assigned to the IDE is really a driver problem?

It is as if Windows 7 does not recognize it as a hard drive.

Photo 1 (installation of windows 7)

    Photo 2 (diskpart cmd.exe)

I'm totally ideas and I think it's a simple solution that I don't know how or where to look.

    He solved.

What I did this from the site Microsoft...

Method 8: Use the Diskpart.exe utility to clean the disk, and then run the Windows Installer again

If you have tried all the methods that are listed in this section and the problem persists, use the Diskpart.exe utility to clean the disk, and then run the Windows Setup program again.

Note Use this method only if you want to perform a new installation of Windows. When you clean the hard disk, it is formatted. All data on the hard drive and all the partitions are deleted permanently. We strongly recommend that you back up the files on the hard disk before cleaning the disc.

To use the Diskpart.exe utility to clean the hard disk, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the DVD into the DVD drive.
    2. On the disk selection screen, press SHIFT + F10. A command prompt window opens.
    3. Type diskpart and press ENTER to open the diskpart tool.
    4. Type list disk and press ENTER. A list of available hard disks.
    5. Drive of salt of type number , and then press ENTER. number is the number of the hard disk you want to clean. The hard drive is now selected.
    6. Type det disk, and then press ENTER. A list of partitions on the hard disk. This information is used to verify that the correct drive is selected.
    7. Make sure that the disk does not contain required data, type clean all and then press ENTER to clean the disk. All partitions and all data on the disc is removed entirely.
    8. Type exit and press ENTER to close the diskpart tool.
    9. Close the command prompt window.
    10. Click the Refresh button to update the disk selection screen. This step lists the disk. (I installed the driver in this step)
    11. Restarted the computer because the interface was giving me errors.
    12. Run Windows Setup to perform a new installation of Windows.
