  There are a lot of diagnostics for your HARD drive. You can use the Drive Fitness Test of Hitachi for example. It creates a boot disk where you can boot from to start the test.

  An alternative look at HD Tune. It s Windows based but can check bad sectors too. In addition it allows to test the speed of the HARD drive.

  Hello!  I use a MacBook Air OX Yosemite 10.10.5.  I need disk space and have already been warned that my drive is full.  I've immediately backed up using Time Machine.  I don't have that 4.94 GB of free space on 499,05 Go.  104.26 GB is GB 161,97 movies and Photos.

  A. you did it right. You just had to copy the library of Photos to the new location, but do not delete the old library until you've checked out the new one does not work correctly.

  B. open the Photos while pressing the Alt key and search the photo library on your external drive. Choose and check that all your photos are here. After you be sure that you can remove your in-House photo library of the folder you stored it (usually the pictures folder).

  I get a 7200 RPM drive, but if you buy one of those, get one with 16 meg cache. It will be more efficient. Western Digital and Seagate are now or will soon be the same company. Portable hard drives now come in versions 7 and 9.5 mm. Of 7mm are necessary to Ultrabooks and other portable thin and 9.5 mm discs do not fit into a slot of 7mm, but a 7mm disc can be used in place of a drive of 9.5 mm. The connections and the mounting holes are in the same location and the thin disk rises just a bit lower in the caddy.

  My internal hard drive is totally dead after 2 years (warranty expired), and I had to replace it. I dropped in the new hard drive. But I don't know what are my next steps

  Do I really need to refer to the recovery discs - and they will work on a new hard drive? -I don't mind send away if that's what is needed, but I can't recover my old data, I hope that I can just download the drivers and leave with the machine... (also I go to work on Monday for 2 weeks at an oil rig, records will not be here in time and I won't be able to stay in touch with my friends and my family like the network is very limited as to what we can access if the computers in the Organization).

  My other question is that I have upgraded to windows 7 from Vista, when I ask to do recovery disks I have ask for the vista version and upgrade again (will be microsoft / the computer accepts the only time only upgrading key again?)  or should I go for the version of windows 7?  I need to re install the windows original vista and then switch again to win7, being that the computer has been configured for vista before the upgrade.

  Hi all

  I had a BBQ and three guests oil and gas software and refused to feed them until thelaptop has been fixed.

  They threw the XP disc across the room and were able to start the player directly at the exit of the disk upgrade of windows 7 using the Custom Installation option.

  I'm afraid I can't give you more information, others that there is no need to first load the XP or the use of the USB box with the zip file in in order to recognize that the new installation drive.

  My HP Pavilion D4100E has an internal hard drive bay that can accommodate two additional internal drives, but I can only find a housing of additional interface on the motherboard. Am I missing something? Are there other places in the interface that I'm missing that are far from the area where my first hard disk is connected?   ·        My old Win XP computer died - it is completely unusable. I bought a new PC with Win 7 Pro and 1 TB. I still have the old HARD DRIVE (250 GB) which I have attached on the new computer using an external enclosure supports SATA drives. The external hard drive is connected to the computer in USB 3.0. I checked that the new computer can see the external hard drive. (I also used for backups by changing the hard drive with a 2 TB drive 'mass storage' - that works.)

  I searched the internet for possible solutions and found no help. If the transfer of files from Microsoft would change the disc to analyze, it would be simple. But if I select the OLD computer it scans the disk I'm on (new) - automatically.

  Is there anyone who has had the same problem? He must be because computers die all the time and people buy new computers - who then, somehow, they get the former transferred files. I could do it manually, but that wouldn't change the settings. Last resort would be to buy an old computer XP (SATA), replace the drive. Transfer the files, and then sell this computer.

  You may be able to recover your data files, but I hope that you will set up your new system to automatically backup a second internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive.

  This suggestion may not work, but it's worth a try. Buy an external USB drive enclosure. They come in two sizes 2.5 "for the portable computer drives and 3.5" for desktop disks. You can purchase adapters for 3.5 "envelopes so that they can also be used with a portable player. Place the hard drive in the enclosure and connect to a USB port of another computer.   It's a computer standard notebook SATA hard drive. The thing with all the weird connection points is a small black plastic module that slides on the standard SATA connections, so that the reader can interface with the connection on the motherboard HP. Just grab her and remove it. You have the caddy properly deleted according to the pictures.

  I tried to be smart and I bought an external hardrive to free up some space on my laptop.  I transferred all my photos to the hardrive thought that I would be able to work on these photos in lightroom, as long as I had the hard drive plugged into my laptop.  Well this is not the case apparently.  So I imported all the photos into lightroom from the hard drive.  With the hard drive plugged into the laptop I can access all my pictures, but the catalogs that I was editing have lost all their changes.  I tried to open the backup lightroom from yesterday, and nothing happens.  If I select one of my catalogs that none of the images are there, he also says missing photos.  So I tried to locate all missing photos, and nothing happened.  All the photos are in lightroom, they appear in the library under the external hardrive.  But I can't shoot in my catalogs and cannot roll back changes to the photos I was editing when I put all my photos on the external hard drive.

  You get the workflow a bit confused here. It is hard to follow all of the steps you took, but I will try to explain the correct procedure.

  1. you have a Lightroom Catalog and all images in the catalog pointing to a location on the internal drive (ideally, it would be a series of folders under the folder of a high level, to make it easier to step 3 below).

  2. copy the image of folders containing images of the Interior on the external drive. You now have two copies of your images.

  3. open Lightroom and you should see all your images again. Open the files Panel and right-click on the top-level folder that contains all the image files (this is where a single top-level folder is priceless). Choose 'location of folder update... »

  4. navigate to the top level on the external drive folder and choose that. Your Lightroom Catalog is now oriented to the external hard drive.

  At this point, you can go on using Lightroom normally. You can copy, move or delete the images of your internal drive, because Lightroom is their use is no longer.

  Note that in step 3 above, if all your image files are not contained in a single top-level folder, you will need to repeat steps 3 and 4 several times, once for each top-level folder.

  CrystalDiskInfo. It should tell you that the drive is good or not.
