  Go to Administrative Tools--->---> Disk Management in the computer management and expand the screen entirely.

  Now, look for the new drive, right mouse click on it if you see initialize and then format the new hard drive.

  Hello everyone, I've just added a new SSD on my PC and added 10 Windows. I works perfectly but my orginal HDD, (ST31000524AS) which came in my XPS 8300 when I bought a few years isn't right formatting.

  Make sure that the hd is just a notebook size hd
  Make sure that the speed is the same thing that you already size is really for you
  before you start to have a complete set of installation discs for the mfgr
  If you only use the os disk you will not load the microsoft embedded key encode any additional programs the mfgr installed or modified specially for your computer model and the party in the form of hard disk, you will need to do it yourself the format should be identical to the new factory

  By using the external drive recently and the USB cable is removed accidentally. After attempting to connect the USB on my Mac again once the external HARD drive does not appear in the Finder.

  Passing through the disk utility, the hard drive is visible, but I am unable to check or repair the disk.

  The message I get is

  I am installing a new ATA 2.5 "internal hard drive for my Toshiba M30X-166. The drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 120 GB model. The laptop does not recognize the disc and no related error message appears, and in the BIOS, it shows as "HD not available."

  I put this drive in an external USB - IDE enclosure and was detected by my desktop PC, and I was able to partition and format the Momentus, so I know the drive is indeed work, but my M30X still does not detect the drive.

  What can I do to make the laptop recognize this unit? The BIOS M30X is: Phoenix EAL20 version 1.90.

  Have you tried another HARD drive? The new HARD drive is may not compatible with the laptop or does work does not correctly.

  Normally, a 120 GB HARD drive should work because the laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits and so you can only use hard drives 120 GB.
  In the worst cases, the HARD disk on the motherboard controller is defective :(

  I am installing a new hard drive in my late 2011 13 "MacBook Pro. I started using apple's online retrieval system and went to disk utility.   I have a WDC32 external hard drive that I have used before.  It appears in the device mgr under the disk drive.  It does not appear in any drive computer.  I tried the 2 front (UBS) and 1 in the back and no change.  Bishop says peripheral device works very well and the latest version of the driver software is installed...   I suggest that you check in Disk Manager if the drive is detected and more later assign the drive letter, check if it works.
