Hard drive failure reinstall windows and the product key?

My hard drive failed on my Dell Latitude E5520. I installed the HDD from my old dell laptop that worked on Vista. Of course now my laptop runs on Vista. Can I reinstall Windows 7 to the hard drive and use the product key that is located on the lower part of it?

Yes, you can reinstall Windows 7 using the key of product at the bottom of the laptop, just make sure it's the same edition than what is indicated on the certificate of authenticity.

  • How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?

How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?  I have already reinstalled Windows 7 from the CD, but that has not solved my problems.  When I put the factory CD in my CD player, it won't always boot from the CD.  When I put my Windows 7 Ultimate CD in the CD drive, it doesn't always start from the CD.         I realize that the reformatting is not always necessary, but I caught a few viruses (despite anti-virus running) and I need to start with a clean hard drive.

You must go into the BIOS and change the boot on CD order
    first push.

How to get into your BIOS? It is not dependent on Windows, but on what he
motherboard/BIOS card that you have. In fact, you need access to the
BIOS before Windows begins to start. A common method is to press
the key delete when you turn on first, but this is not necessarily true

  • Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

    HP TouchSmart 610-1020 has

    i5 6 GB RAM 64 bit

    Windows 7 Home Edition Premium--> Windows 8

Hi there, since a terrible week for me I started to receive the error message:

Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

only when am re - / from my PC.

I made a backup already a few days ago (space available was already 85% - did not much), run all those disk cleanup, defragmentation, analyze and verify programs and there was nothing wrong. I ran all possible controls and it had nothing recorded. I've updated / installed Windows 8 which works perfectly without any problems, no computer crash or that it is, but only sometimes receive a message saying that I need to run/shedule a back, etc.

As I already mentioned, there was no disk error, no other problems known but still get the message "hard drive failure is imminent and should be replaced" and crazy!

    My questions are:

    (1) what on Earth is happening, there is always a problem with touch smart PC; should he stay away all in a desktop PC and just buy older versions - separate screen and tour, etc.?

    (2) I have no problem and continue to use my PC but wonder what will happen; It will be down, it's just a false error message, what should I do?

    (3) if I have to take it to a service, what should I take care of?

Thank you for taking your time and wil appreciate for your posts about.

    Hello

What has happened is that the CHIP system reports told you that your hard drive will fail little time. It is good that you have saved.  The fault lies not in all of your PC, but in a single component, namely the hard disk. You own your PC like one year standard warranty is longer.

You need to buy a hard drive with the following specifications. It of time to find your recovery disc as you need to recover your PC in its delivered State and then apply the upgrade 8 to win again. You can install it yourself or have done by a qualified PC store or from an HP Service Technician. The HP service center is the most expensive option.

You can avoid having to use the recovery disk and upgrade by a clone of your hard drive on a 1.5 TB external drive. You will be able to migrate the clone on the new diskette with a product commercially available as Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12.

Sorry, you can not. A CRC error means that there is a serious problem with your drive. You need to replace it.

  • Floppy disks to install Windows 7 and the product keys are exclusive to each other?

Floppy disks to install Windows 7 and the product keys are exclusive to each other?  Or can I use a disc that I have to restore the windows on a second laptop and activate it with a different product key?  It is not a question to find out how many users I can put in place, but whether the disk and product key are mutually exclusive.

As long as the product key matches the edition, it should work perfectly, no exclusivity.

  • Record and the product key of Windows 8

Unfortunately, my husband has one person to put up my new PC for me and I do not know now what is my windows product key and whether or not it is registered.  How will I know (the PC came with Windows pre-installed).

If it was built by an OEM System Builder, then the product key must have been connected to the computer on a certificate of authenticity. If this isn't the case, it could be on the envelope that came with your PC. Otherwise, you must contact the manufacturer and ask him if he is or consider purchasing a product key for your installation.

    How to buy additional keys:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click System

Click on see details in the Windows Activation

Click on the link: buy Windows to another computer

    http://www.Windows.com/buy

Yes, you may be prompted to go through the installation routine with just the web installer of 5 MB, but you don't actually have to download, simply to purchase and the product key will be presented to you in the Upgrade Wizard (you also a copy is sent to your email address).

  • I installed Vista in a Virtualbox VM and the product key does not work, how to fix this? I use the same product key supplied with the computer originally.

I bought a Dell Precision T3400 of Dell Financial Services and it came with Vista Business installed.  I installed a new hard drive and installed Vista in a Virtualbox VM by using the recovery disk that came with the computer, and the product key does not work for activation.  I get a message that says I need to activate Windows, but he says that the product key is not valid.  How can I fix it?

    Thank you

If you have reinstalled the OEM of Vista Business copy on the new hard drive, as Bill says you can't also use it in a virtual machine.

You can only reuse your OEM of Vista professional copy if it is no longer used on the computer. Do you have what operating system installed on the new hard drive? It was an upgrade copy or complete the license?

If you used a license to upgrade to another edition of Windows to replace your copy of company then Vista Business license is still in use (for upgrade) and you cannot reuse it in your virtual machine.

However if you replaced Vista business with a copy of the full license of another edition then you are able to use the OEM copy in a virtual machine, but only on the same computer. You must use the product key from COA to the label on the computer. The product key is put in the copy OEM cannot find the SLIC table on the host motherboard. You must use the phone activation from within the virtual machine. Click on start in Vista Business and typing "slui 4. Do not meet the audio guests until it asks you if you want to speak to an agent. Explain that you have completely replaced the OEM copy with a copy of the full license of the new windows and now want to use the OEM copy in a virtual machine on the same computer. Agent will then give you the activation string. Remember that the virtual machine is not transferable to any other computer.

  • I replaced the hard drive in my system. How can I reinstall Windows and use my key to activate it?

    Vista operating system software

I have a HP laptop running windows vista.  The crashed(non-recoverable) of hard disk and I have replaced the material.  I have a valid license key of Vista code and would like to know if I can download vista and use my codekey to activate it on the original laptop which has windows vista sticker Home premium OEMAct on the back.

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact HP and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

    http://h20566.www2.HP.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/help/contactHP/home/?AC.admitted=1340852823523.876444892.199480143

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Replaces the Probook 4520 s HARD drive. Reinstalling Windows 7?

The hard drive failed on my Probook 4520 s after only 18 months.  A Windows disc came with the computer?  If this is not the case, how to reinstall Windows when a HARD drive fails?  (I know not how to buy and install Windows, I'm more interested in how it is retrieved when it is stored on the failed rather than the removable media drive).

The reason why I don't know if a disc that came with the computer is that we recently moved to a new State, and the disk can be in one of the boxes, still unopened.

    Thank you

    Patrick Mc.

    Good,

    This may solve your problem.

If you have the product key for the version of windows 7 that was on your computer, you can go to: http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-links/

in which, in, you can download the appropriate windows 7 ISO (don't forget the version is the same as that which was previously installed on your computer). Burn the ISO to a disk and then install it from the disc & activate with your product key.

    I hope this helps!
