Hard drive HP G62-234DX

Hello, I recently bought a laptop HP G62-234DX from Best Buy that was on sale last week. Information can be found here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+15.6%22+...

I went to the store ran out of stock on this model, but I was able to pay for one and sent it on the spot of another bank. I picked up there today and everything seems fine. I don't have that one question, the information on the site Web of Best Buy, said the laptop has a 250 GB hard drive, but should I really 250GB: http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1408/8347292.png

Thank you

OK, this is an old story... put in simple words, the manufacturers of hard disk and Windows measure the size to a different scale...

To get a little more technical... Here's the math...

Hard drive manufacturers calculate the size of the hard drive in notation ' base 10' while Windows don't calculation in format 'basic 2'..."

base 2 of 10 is 1024 is 1 kilobyte
base 2 of 20 is 1 megabyte or 1048576
base 2 of 30 is 1073741824 or 1 gigabyte

Thus, when the manufacturer of the hard drive says 250 GB HDD, which corresponds to 250,000,000,000 bytes. Now windows divides this number by what he considers a GB (1073741824) and indicates the size of the hard disk as:

250000000000 (bytes) / 1073741824 (bytes per GB) = GB 232,8

So now us add up all the partition on your laptop... 0.1 MB (System Partition) + 0.1 MB 218 GB (OS Partition) + 14.2 GB (recovery Partition) (HP tools Partition) = 232,4 GB

This information is he of the label on the box itself.

Could someone please recommend some course HP laptop model that can be used the same hard drive as G62-355DX use?

Even the hard drive can not put it in the bag laptop, but work with the HARD drive interface.

Or is there any external HARD disk enclosure can be used to read the data hard disk, the data does not have compreesed.

    Thank you in advance.

Hello! You need a new PC Yep!
But there are other ways to do

You can buy a SATA USB adapter that will allow you to plug in the HARD drive on another PC and the take-off data

NOW YOU CAN ONLY SAVE DATA FROM THE DISK IF THE HARD DRIVE IS NOT DEAD

    Good luck!

    Hello

    You are welcome

8 GB ram installation is probably the best upgrade, that you can do to the cost, and I always recommend.

  • Replacing the hard drive HP G62-450SA model / recovery. Windows 7

    Hello

Last week my laptop started running very slowly, and after a few tests, it seems that the hard drive is on its way.

I phoned to HP supports, however is out of warranty I wasn't able to get a real support, but advised him to watch the online support pages to back up my files, create a file recovery on a usb device and then it would be as simple as taking on the old hard drive, put in the new, and following the instructions to recover my system and files.

So after these tips, I've created:

-A recovery image USB on a Virgin USB key, using the Recovery Manager

-A backup on an external hard drive using the backup and restore

-An image of the system by using the backup and restore.

Then I replaced the hard drive.

When I turned on the laptop all I get is a black screen that says "no boot device - insert the diskette and press any key".

I have not all discs. I thought that was the point of creating the recovery image on the USB key? I insert the USB key, and it is not recognized.

If at this point, I'm stuck. I'm not all boards because HP say they have to charge me.

Please can anyone here tell me what to do next? What I need to buy recovery discs or is there a way I can install the new hard drive by using the above files?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

    You are welcome

Another option, you can try would be to restore the system image you created - you can do the following.

If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7.  Download the ISO relevant among the links below.

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Windows 7 64 bit

You must use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options) to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.

When creating, type following the ESC key as soon as you start the launch of the laptop Boot Menu, and then insert the rescue CD.  Select boot options (usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

Connect the drive that contains the system image you have created and then follow method 3 below to reload the image on the new HARD drive.

  • G62-149wm: OS after you replaced the HARD drive

I was good recently a laptop G62 with a hdd dead by a friend who did not feel it was worth the cost of repairs. I tell myself that I can put an ssd inside, and it will be a pretty decent laptop.  My problem concerns the operating system after that I do this. I have my own copy of Windows 7 (64 bit), but I read that the key for the original version on the dead hard drive is also on the bios for faster installation. And if you install a different version, it can cause problems with some versions of windows in some laptops. My question is can I use my copy of windows 7 or what I have to go through the trouble to use the key to laptops to burn another copy of the windows Web site. Possible stupid question but I want to know everything before you start this project.

    Hello

This machine originally shipped with Windows 7, then you will be very well - injection of digital product keys started with Windows 8 - just install Windows 7 and enter your product key from the usual way.

If necessary, original software and drivers are available on the following link.

    Hello

Your laptop is considered as coming with a 320 GB drive hard, but you can install just as easily a 500 GB or 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 57 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Regarding the upgrade your Ram, the maximum is only 8 GB (IE 2 x 4 GB Modules) - an example of an upgrade appropriate can be seen on the link below.

Drive hard test reports a SMART error (301).  You should back up the system and contact the HP support to inquire if the hard drive needs to be replaced or just needs to be repaired. I have supported from the system, it had to be replaced?

    Hello

The Smart 301 error would indicate that your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disc replaced.  You can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

  • Can not defragment drive C on the G62-234DX laptop

I am running Windows 7 on the laptop G62-234DX. I can't defragment drive C. Can I defragment my other disks, but it takes 10 hours to complete. I did a disk cleanup on drive C. Please note that defrags them I can make are made by me and not by a calendar. The Scheduler is not working either.

I only have one Antivirus software on the laptop and I recently deleted many programs run at startup.

  • Get the HP G62 with empty HARD drive with a recovery disc

    I currently have a HP g62-a46se model.

Due to some problems that I met, I removed the BONES together with the HP recovery Partition (I think because I don't know what happened) and everything else on the HARD drive so now the drive is completely empty. I made the backup drives but when I run them they say "this recovery media cannot be used on this PC.

Pls Help. as I have no idea on how to restore the computer as long as the plant...

If your number was referring to this warranty, then you have three ways to resolve this.

Buy a HP recovery media or HP partner. This is the inexpensive way.

The expensive is to buy a supported Microsoft Windows operating system installation disc.

Install a free Linux distribution. He gets not any cheaper than this. Download and use for free.

    Hello

You can certainly move to a 750 GB 5400 RPM HARD drive, a 1 TB would also be possible, but it is not listed as a compatible hdd in a service guide. After a reset, the laptop will be in the same condition that you used for the first time (OS preinstalled). The recovery partition is going to be on the hard drive as well. Size is not too large, I think that it would be up to 15-20 GB...

  • My G62-340US, I just had to replace the hard drive. My recovery disks appear to be compromised. Help

On my G62-340US, I just had to replace the hard drive. I did 4 recovery disks when it was new. Now restore the recovery discs 3 ran, but will not be the 4th disk. The 4th information located anywhere without having to buy a new set? Where can I buy a single disc?

    Hello:

As far as I know, you would have to buy a whole series of new.

But, if you can read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the bottom of your laptop, I have a free solution to install a simplified version of W7 using the code the product key on your laptop.

    Here's how...

Download the ISO file from W7 Home Premium 64 bit from the Microsoft link below.

    http://MSFT.digitalrivercontent.NET/win/X17-58997.ISO 2147483647 English Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 X 17 - 58997.iso

Make sure that you got the file from xx GB 3. integers download, in rare circumstances, you get a full notification of download, but you do not receive the entire file to download.

After you download the ISO file, you can burn it to a DVD using the ISO file burn option on your DVD burning program, or you can use this tool to transfer the ISO to a flash USB DVD or 4 GB drive.

The tool also performs the bootable media.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Then go to the care of your laptop and driver page for available software and drivers that you need.

This is normally an indication that the hard drive has failed or is about to fail. Please save all important folders, files and data immediately (if possible). Then, create the discs of HP recovery if you already haven't. If you can not make a set of recovery discs, order from HP or a third party. Finally, buy and install a 320 GB or more 2.5 inch 7200 RPM SATA hard drive.
