Hard drive is not reflected in the list of disks

Device Manager recognizes a disk but the disk management does not show in the list of disks (affected/not allocated).  You want to set up and assign a drive letter.   Thank you.   Russ

< original="" title:="" disk="" management="">

Hello Russell,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

With the publication of the description, I understand that the hard drive is not reflected in the list of disks on your Windows 7 operating system. I will certainly help you get this problem.

This problem can occur because of incorrect settings. In order to solve the problem, I would suggest trying the following methods and check if this is useful:

Method 1: Troubleshooting hardware and devices

Integrated the hardware and devices troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix most of the incorrect settings and errors that could cause problems with the equipment. I suggest you run the troubleshooter to check if there is no problem with the graphics card. See albums as follows:

1. open Control Panel

2. click Troubleshooting and select the option to display all on the left pane.

3. click Troubleshooting of hardware and devices and follow the prompts.

Try Method 2, if the problem persists

Method 2: Make sure that the drive is enabled

Follow the below mentioned steps to make sure that the drive is enabled:

1. click on start and type device manager in the search box

2. click on Device Manager in the control panel list

3 locate the drives item in the list, and then click the small arrow to the right to expand the list of readers

If a disk is disabled you will see an icon with an arrow pointing down on the icon of the hard disk

If you see an icon with an arrow pointing down on the hard drive icon, double-click the icon and click on the button Activate peripheral

4 then click on activate a device dialog box, click Next, and then click on finish

5. click Close, and then close the Device Manager window

Note: If you do not see your hard drive in the listed readers, the player is not detected by Windows.

Note: If you receive an error message when the hard disk is activated, you can have a bad hard drive.

Hope the helps of information. Let us know if you need help with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help you.

  • Hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS - Equium A60

Hi hope someone can help. I have a Toshiba Equium EA60-173 and the hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS. When I remove the hard drive and put it in another laptop it is detected fine. I also tried another hard drive in the Toshiba and that does not work either. So I suspect the IDE controller has disappeared, but can I do to confirm this? I wish there was an option in the BIOS to force detection. I updated the BIOS but still the same.

This laptop is only just out of warranty, so if it is the controller would I need to replace the motherboard? Are there other options at my disposal?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Neil,

Unless there is some physical\problem with the cable/connector hard drive, then it is most likely that you will have a new mainboard for your laptop. I suggest you to contact an authorized service partner and ask them to check your laptop and give you an estimate of the cost of the repair. Then you can try to shop for less expensive alternatives.

    Kind regards

Sorry, you can not. A CRC error means that there is a serious problem with your drive. You need to replace it.

  • External hard drive is not recognized and the Table to Partition GUID (GPT) partitioning scheme has message is required (-69773)

    Hello!

I have an external HD that has been unplugued without eject by mistake. Since then, the HD is not recognized by the finder or disk utility.

When I list the disk in the Terminal, the drive is listed.

But when I tried to check or repair, a message appears: "failed to check this disc: a Partition GUID (GPT) partitioning schΘma Table is required (-69773).

I can access the files using programs such as Seagate File Recovery, but I want to extract data and repair the disk without using 3rd party software.

    Is this possible?

If you have access to the files - a possibility would be to get the files off the disk and then reformat using disk utility

  • HARD drive is not recognized on the Satellite 2800 200

    Hello

First of all, I'm Dutch so I hope that I do not have too many mistakes in my English writing.

    I bought a 2800-200 Satellite at a friend's House. This laptop has a problem.
When it is started is says "insert the disk in the drive system. Press a key when readya?.

My bios is ACPI BIOS version 1.80
In Pheripheral in Bios it says disc hard = not used Mode.

On page two discs i/o: HARD drive: no drive.

I tried two hard drives and the two were not working and not recognized in the BIOS.
I have no CD of restoration.

    My questions:

What kind of central computer has this laptop?
Can someone help me with the recovery CD?
What can I do to fix this?
How can I change my BIOS so that the HARD drive is recognized?

My hard drive is MK2023GAS and is not broken. There is nothing on this HARD drive.
But also with the disk hard 10 GB of origin, I had the same problem.

I hope you can help me and once again I apologize for my English.

    Hello

I'll try to help you my friend.

    > When it is started is says "insert the disk in the drive system. Press any key when ready
This message appeared on my laptop after the HARD disk is dead.
I had to replace the HARD drive and reinstall the operating system.

I guess that it of the same problem with your laptop. The HARD drive is not present or not recognized, and you will need to install a compatible HDD for the operation of the OS.

I have google a bit and discovered that this laptop comes with the 10 GB HARD MK1016GAP of Toshiba drive. It supports the interface ATA-2/ATA-3/ATA-4/ATA-5.

Please note that many BIOS have a limit of size of HARD drive. This means that not all HARD drive sizes are supported! I assume a 20 GB should be compatible, but this is just my own opinion
    > How can I change my BIOS so that the HARD drive is recognized?
The BIOS can be modified outside the update (check page driver Toshiba-> Archive-> archive of Satellite).
But vary important is that you use a compatible HARD drive.

    > Can someone help me with the recovery CD?
Don t know if you will be able to order this CD at the service provider allowed in your country, because the laptop is really an oldie. But you should ask the guys.
What you is to install the OS from the Microsoft CD-ROM and then could install drivers needed.

  • New hard drive does not appear in the disk utility

I am installing a new hard drive in my late 2011 13 "MacBook Pro. I started using apple's online retrieval system and went to disk utility. I tried to format the drive, but he is stuck saying "remove disc" for about a half hour, and then I had a rotation beach ball and could not move the cursor. I restarted the computer and now the drive does not appear in the disk utility. Any help is appreciated as I have no idea where to go from here.

    Thank you.

You will may be turned off and check that your hard drive is correctly positioned with all the screws tight.

  • External hard drive will not mount after the update of the Sierra

Hi, I have an a Segate 1 TB external hard drive that I have with my MacBook Air. After upgrading to Mac OS Sierra, he refused to climb and is therefore invisible in the Finder. Disk utility detects the drive in NTFS initialized and said that all the space has been used. I tried to mount it first through disk utility, but it did nothing. Then I tried via terminal, but he returns "failed to mount. It worked fine before and also works very well on a MacBook Pro running Yosemite. It may be nothing to do with the player, as all files are intact when it is connected to the other Mac. Also, I restarted in Mac utilities and run from there disk utility, and it detected the drive, mounted and fully initialized, with the right amount of space being exhausted.

I am looking for a solution that does not copy the files off and reformatting if possible, but I'll give it a go, if it comes to that. Thank you very much.

Most likely your Seagate drivers are not updated.

NTFS is most likely the culprit here.

Go to the Seagate site and download and install the latest drivers for your drive and NTFS.

    Hey,.

I checked the Web from Toshiba site and it seems that you need RAID driver for install Windows properly. The driver is required to get recognized hard drives

It seems that this driver is available for XP and 2000 only because the laptop is old enough, I think that Yes it doesn't support Vista or Windows 7 I think. You can only try the XP driver. If it doesn t work you must use the operating system preinstalled Toshiba were all working properly! :)

  • My hard drive is not even read the disc (Dragon Age: Origins)

Today I bought a new video game for PC (Dragon Age: Origins).
After inserting the disc, I thought I could hear the drive reading the disc, but it kept stopping.

This ended up in my computer not give me an error message saying that there is problem... it's almost as if he thinks that I have never inserted the disc.

So I tried to run another game disc, and he managed to read the disc.

    Please help :(

the required for the game is the following:

OS: Windows XP (SP3) or Windows nice (SP1) or Windows 7
Processor: Processor Intel Core 2 SINGLE 1.6 GHz or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 2/0 GHz processor or equivalent
RAM: 1 GB (1.5 GB Vista and Windows 7)
    Disc drive: DVD ROM required
Hard drive: 20 GB of disk space

and I guess that video and sound are not the problem here.

I'm not a 'computer' wiz or anything either, but after reading the label of my system, it seems that the requirements very well.
    they are here:

OS: Windows Vista 64 - bit family Premium SP1
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core
    RAM: 4 GB DDR2
Disk drive: Super multiformat DVD + RW DL with Labelflash
    HDD: 750 GB

... As you can see, taking me the time to post all this place really shows how frustrated I am... so please Helo me ASAP :(

It is possible that you have a bad DVD drive.  Try it in another computer (a friend or relative) and if it didn't work for them either, you may have to contact the company for a replacement drive.  If it works on their computer and not yours, you may need an update of the firmware of your DVD player to make it compatible with the disc.  It is a rare event, but can happen.  You will need to go to the website where you made your computer and download the update of the firmware if available.

  • Hard drive does not start after the use of the recovery on USB Manager

The hard drive on HP G62t - 350 CTO Notebook to my newphew failed. I could create a USB recovery in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was bigger, do not remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know that the recover the system after the hard is replaced (Windows 7) said "to avoid problems, install a hard drive as big or bigger than the replaced hard disk", but that's a question for later.

Computer started fine of USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimum installation. He goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Said so to remove the external media and restart, the computer will restart several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I get out of USB and restarted, but after POST I get "no bootable media present.

If I try to reboot, leaving the USB in, it starts in USB and that we are at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk, the SSD has an NTFS partition that had Windows files copied to it and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60% / 40%).

    So:

    1. How make bootable hard drive for, and if it was bootable, recovery processes complete?
    2. What is happening with the partitions? He creates the partition recovery first, and then after the start, the recovery partition installs the operating system? If so, I might have to give up this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.
    3. Official recovery media help? A technician told me that he would do so, but couldn't explain to my satisfaction why the USB I created with Recovery Manager does not work, so I'm suspicious of the assertion that the media created by HP as opposed to media created by me using the own HP software would be better, and since the computer is under warranty I don't want to spend $30 + to find out.

Most of the people who have installed an SSD that was smaller than the reader of the factory were unable to use any medium recovery HP with the SSD.

As an alternative, if you can still read the 25 characters on the COA affixed Microsoft Windows product key at the bottom of the computer, you can install Windows 7 family, by using this key. Please see "how to install Windows 7 without the disc" to get instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media and install Windows 7 using the product key 25 character of the COA Microsoft on your computer. Please note that this facility is not all customizations of HP or HP value-added that was original installed on your computer. Also note that you will need to download and install most of the pilots of the HP G62t - 350 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page.

  • Hitachi Touro Desk pro HARD drive does not recognize on the computer of Windows 8.

Original title: Windows 8 - Hitachi Touro Pro support

I have a Hitachi Touro Desk pro HARD drive that no longer works since I've upgraded to windows 8 last week. If I leave it connected during startup, windows will not start and if I connect it once started, it does not appear in the Solution Explorer, even if you can hear the disc turns away.

The HARD drive works on all other computers and operating system, not just windows 8.

When Microsoft will release a patch for this problem? I really don't want to have to re - install windows 7 so that I can access my files again.

I have installed Windows 10 Technical Preview version 10049 and connected my drive from 750 GB Hitachi touro in USB 3.0 and it WORKS!

I can't believe that after several years of frustration with this device with Windows 8.1 incompatibility it finally works great in Windows 10! Please check if you also have Windows 10 TP if your Hitachi drive works as well

  • Hard drive does not appear in the preferences?

    Hello

I have an external hard drive that I want to use as the scratch disk in photoshop, but it does not appear when I open preferences > performance? My other two hard drives that are connected and mac HD appear well?

This external drive is properly formatted as a Mac OS Extended ?  It should not be formatted as logged, but it MUST be Mac OS extended.

  • External hard drive (Seagate) not readable after the ejection using Thunderbolt cable

Not sure where this question fits as this seems to be a Thunderbolt cable problem but here goes...

I have 4 TB Seagate Backup Plus external drives for archiving with two drives - backup A and B backup - and two interfaces, a basis of love at first sight and a standard basis of USB3.

Using the basis of love at first sight that I backed up to 1.5 TB of data on a Mac logged to A disk and ejected from backup format. When I reassembled A backup to verify the data Finder says the drive is not a recognizable car and I had to reformat. I thought that I must have crashed head or something like the disc was still running when I pulled it off the base of love at first sight. When I got tired to reformat the drive in disk utility only 500 GB of the 4TB were available for formatting, so I thought that I've certainly got to have damaged it.

Then I saved my 1.5 TB of data to a second drive Seagate Backup Plus (backup B) but when I eject this drive (this time I waited to stop and pulled the power over the base before you remove the disk) and then lift the drive that the same error came in the Finder. Suspecting it was the Thunderbolt interface I swapped backup to the base of the USB3 B and all the data is there! I checked A backup and even if she had to be reformatted this time all the 4 TB of capacity was available.

I also have a Rugged Lacie 2 TB drive with a Firewire interface and it seems to work just fine so maybe the Thunderbolt Apple cable or Seagate sight base. I don't have a second Thunderbolt cable to test with at the moment.

As a secondary issue readers are not run down after eject either. The heads are parked, but readers continue so I have to pull the power and wait that it happen down before I can remove basic USB3 disks or love at first sight. This problem, even if it's embarrassing, I can live with. In the foreseeable future I'll use the basis of the USB3.

Everyone knows about this problem before? It sounds really weird.

I can only give you my opinion of WD boxes and I'm afraid that's not good. My experience with WD boxes have always been bad. My suggestion is to try another TB cable and see if that's it, if not then try to connect another device to your iMac Thunderbolt and test to see if it is the iMac, which I doubt it is. If this isn't the cable or the iMac, then you know that it's the condom. If the disks are recoverable from the speaker, remove them and get a TB of high-quality speaker. My vote goes to OWC (www.macworld.com) pregnant Thunderbolt.
