HARD drive not recognized by Windows Vista Home Edition (32-bit with Service Pack 2)
Windows stopped to recognize external 500 GB drive external HARD on my Ascer Aspire 5610Z attached via the USB port. Have tried two USB ports, but won't recognize the device. Seeing of the device lights up and the device can be played on another laptop. OK worked until a week or two ago, but cannot restore because it's on this unit that the backups are done! Windows is 'unknown material' and trying to find the driver, without success. Device Manager reflects an unknown device but gives no description, etc.

Hello
I have a hp Pavilion notebook PC with a new motherboard. After you have installed Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, I noticed that Windows only recognizes 958 MB 2 GB of RAM installed. No one knows why this is happening and how can I fix or troubleshout the problem?
Thank you, PD777Hello
How is your memory configured? that is, what is 2 x 1 GB modules or module 1 x 2 GB. If the former I would check the physical installation of the modules on the MB memory.
Vista 32 bit should see up to 3 GB, I doubt that it is Vista the cause.
Another thought, are your shared graphics? in some BIOS, it is possible to ask the system to use a fixed amount of RAM the GUI system, this memory will not be included in the complete system.

I upgraded my card mother cpu ram and hard drive. I reinstalled windows xp home edition has got all of the updates. After 9 latest updates download and installtion was going well until I rebooted the computer and go to page window showing all the icons that I get a blue screen and the computer restarts its self and does not stop. How can this be corrected?
Hi KevinRy,
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!
Unplug all external devices.
Try to start in safe mode. If you can start in safe mode, and then do a system restore to restore the computer to an earlier point in time.
Change the recovery settings to disable automatic reboot, if you are able to boot up to the desktop computer:
1.
Right-click my computerand then click Properties.
2.
Click the Advanced tab.
3.
Under Startup and recovery, click settings to open the Startup and recovery dialog box.
4.
Clear the automatically restart check box, and then click OK many times necessary.
5.
Restart your computer so that the settings take effect.
Now, when you are going to close and a fatal error occurs, you will see at least and it won't cause an automatic restart.
Please reply back with the error message you get because it helps us to resolve the error.
Kind regards
Amal-Microsoft Support.

I have a hitachi lifestudio external hard drive and it works great 50% of the time... the other 50%, I fight because it not being recognized on my computer or laptop (both vista). I plugged it to my computer now and it will only recognize the player but is not the one with my files that I need. I have two USB cords connected and it was working fine yesterday! Is there a way to force vista to recognize something?

CD/DVD drive not recognized by Windows Vista
I installed a suite of burningb of CD and DVD on my Toshiba (under Vista Home Premium). My CD/DVD drive appeared more in the computer and was no longer functional. I deleted the program I installed and apparently caused the problem, but it did not help. I have read through the help of Microsoft (929461, 314060) documents and used the Fix - It utility. Also unsuccessful. I discovered the response of Martin, the technical support engineer made on May 5, 2009. I followed his instructions with great success. However, my question now is this: I have still some remains of the problem left over. I get an error message at startup saying, 'InstaBurn UDF driver is not installed correctly. Run the InstaBurn installation program. ' InstaBurn is part of the suite of the copy (hotpics by Nova Development Corp.). I also have an error message of my reader DVD Toshiba saying that the DVD player does not work - although it is. I played a DVD as a test on it after that I followed the instructions above. How can I remove these error messages annoying that aren't accurate? Would appreciate any information about this minor - but annoying problem.

The hard drive worked well until KB2398632 & KB2347290 updates have been downloaded and installed on 16/09/10. Hard drive works fine on my Vista machine at work.
On my own machine (Windows 7), the drive is seen in my BIOS. He also appeared in the "features and properties" of the control panel Windows 7 and the 'properties' indicates that the device is functioning properly. The pilot is also updated.
It does not appear in the Windows 7 Explorer under 'computer '. Only the C: drive is indicated.

Hello HP community!
I recently got a HP Compaq d530 SFF of the company, where I had my work experience.
Fortunately, I took their offer and took the PC at home, everything was going well until I bought myself some new DIMM from ebuyer.com.
I again for a fact, the computer must DDR 333 MHz, PC2700 and it must be in DIMM format, so I went and bought 3x1Go modules. A few days later they arrived and I have them inserted in the computer, ensuring that two DIMMs was in blue locations and others (I wanted to keep a 256 MB module to) in the black sites.
I have re-inserted power cable and tried to boot the PC, he showed me a BIOS message, showing that the amount of memory has changed, since the last boot. Once the configuration is presented, he acknowledged only the 256 MB module. I then turned off the computer, and then remove the 256 MB module, to see what would happen. So, I restarted the PC, and it gave me an error (not shown) tone. To which I then tried (needles) each DIMM different to see if one of them was vice. They are all gave me the same error tone. Since then, I've been running Windows Vista Home Premium, with 1 GB (4x256MB DIMM).
Maybe someone has a suggestion how to fix this?
I've already updated the version of the BIOS at 02.44 (later I could find).
Thanks in advance!
Yours sincerely Simon Cahill

It would be important to know because if you have a model that uses SATA hard drives need drivers Intel Storage Manager you can install Windows XP.
But in this case, you should check other forum threads. You will find hundreds of discussions on installing XP on SATA hard drive.

New hard drive LG Canada E300 Windows Vista Home Premium Laptop
I change my old HDD SSD hard drive. OEM is more portable computer sales and support for laptop. There is a recovery on the old HARD drive partition, but I don't know if I can use the recovery on the new SSD partition. How can I install Vista with existing license key?
Hello
As you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system on the new HD.
Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.
If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.
Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.
And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs
Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.
And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

Bay DVD replace HARD drive not recognized by Windows
I have a 7737 with the 256 GB SSD, but I wanted more storage internally and was not too annoyed to have DVD - so I bought a caddy and replaced the optical drive with a WD Scorpio Black 750 GB drive.
When I went into administration - computer management - disk management tools, he acknowledged that the drive was there because he told me that he needed reprogramming - so I went ahead and let him. The disc quickly disappeared from the list, and I can't do anything that he can come back.
I tried to refresh, rescan the drives, restart (how can I confirm the BIOS recognizes the drive correctly, as the "SATA ODD', but Windows still refuses to acknowledge that he is here.) Device Manager displays only the SSD and scanning for hardware changes have no effect.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but now my laptop seems a touch slow, especially in the graphics... and I noticed that in the Task Manager, System interrupts now takes 10 percent of time CPU on average. I can't say that I've never noticed that before. My old Samsung laptop (which has integrated graphics rather than a dedicated card, to be honest) claims system interrupts doesn't take any time at all CPU. This seems to suggest a conflict any exist, and maybe that's why the drive is not recognized?
Because Device Manager is not see it, I can't check for updated drivers.
Because disk management can't see, I can't format / partition / assign a drive letter.
The BIOS does not let me do anything with the drive, go into properties or disable / re-enable, or something like that.
Can anyone suggest what I might have missed in the configuration, or what I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, I can't find a downloadable diagnosis for your laptop. Try Seatools. Seagate website has a download, that you can use to create a CD bootable or flash player to test hard drives.
I just want to see if a tool outside Windows can detect the drive and all the problems.

Maxtor One Touch 4 external hard drive not recognized by Windows 7 64 bit
It does not appear in Device Manager, and disk management.
I tried all 8 USB ports on my computer.
I have it plugged into different outlets (light still on) and tested it on other computers running Vista 32 bit and XP.
The drive works fine on other computers, but not my new computer running Windows 7 64 bit. Microsoft Compatibility Checker stated that this player should work with Windows 7 64 bit.
I'd like to get this to work by car. Any ideas?
Hi Anthony Netties.
Check if the hard drive is detected in the BIOS.

While I was looking at the Seagate site, I came across this One Touch 4 is only designed to work with 32-bit operating systems only and is perhaps the reason for computer detects it not.

I did a blog post on this subject in which I linked above. However, I will also give you the solution here:
The answer:
Start-> right click computer-> properties
Device Manager (left side)
Click on the arrow of disks to view the list

Make a right click on the drive-> uninstall
After the HDD SATA disappears, click on action-> Scan for hardware changes menu -

Yes, it should work... I didn't know that you were able to do...
If you can remove the entire partitions... If you can reformat it to NTFS on Linux, you do too much, or just wait and do in Windows.
