HARD drive replacement and keep the Windows license

I recently bought a laptop computer HP, used, which comes with Windows 8.

It is out of warranty.

Microsoft says that I can not use the serial key associated with settling on a facility "retail."

So, I can't just write the serial key and install from a USB key.

Is there a way I can buy a new HARD drive and use the license provided with the laptop?

Edit: Forgot to mention the reader will fail to the review of the short DST and Windows slows to an analysis minutes after starting.

Thank you very much for the help. This seems to be what I wanted.

  • How you copy mp3 files from the my music for a cd drive folder and keep the files in mp3 format, format it with windows 8

in the past with previous versions of windows, you can easily copy MP3s to a cd and keep the files in format mp3, format thus creating an mp3 disc, you made by selecting the songs you want to copy on disk, you must select the songs of the my folder music and make a click right then on the song selected or songs , you would then select send, and then select the drive that contains the blank cd in it to send the songs to, you choose then to a standard audio CD or data cd, you must select the option data cd and the drive will keep the songs in mp3 format, it was all done using windows Explorer. I would like to do the same thing to do these discs mp3 on my computer windows 8, however I can not understand how do, can help a whole me with that?

  • Hard drive replacement and warranty question Portege and Tecra models

    Good afternoon

I'm hoping for a little clarity if a laptop warranty is invalidated if the hard drive is replaced for another title of model/difference. The company that I work buys models Tecra and Portege for these last years, if we decide to buy more large hard disks and get our IT Department install them will be that gap in the agreement of guarantee with Toshiba?

I talked to Toshiba and they were a little gray in their response. They said that, if you didn't damage the laptop, it should be fine, but if you send it as an unrelated question, with what they can carry out repairs on the laptop if the hard drive does not match the orgional one provided...

Can somone if this is the case? It seems ridiculous that you would not be able to replace the drive even if bought from an official and used dealer in a corporate environment.

    Kind regards

    Jonsey

As much as I know RAM and HDD upgrade do not negate the warranty. For many models of laptops, you can find instruction how to do this. It is described in the document of the user s manual or you can find short videos on Toshiba documents (knowledge base).

Even on this forum in the USER SELF REPLACEMENT section you will find instructions how to replace the hard drives.

What you can also do is to contact the nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and check what they say on this subject.

  • 910219. how to download and keep the Windows Update files?

    Hello

What is the ideal way to update Windows? now, Windows downloads the selected updates. where? I do not know! and after their installation, it removes the packages for installation on my computer. This causes the downloaded updates are lost, and I can't use them to similar machines that need to install the same updates. for these machines, I have to download updates again! This causes my internet to be charged again while it is not really necessary.

the ideal way, in my view, is that I can specify a folder for the Windows Update service. It can use a default folder for that also. After selecting the updates, I want to install in my system, it checks to see if the update is already existing in the folder. only if NOT it downloads. then after downloading it maintains the package in the same folder after installing. installation should be done automatically as it is done now. Then I can move the folder to another machine. in the second machine, I also choose the update I want to be installed which are mostly the same as the first machine. for example, Windows Update only consumes my internet traffic for updates that are not yet downloaded. I wonder why Windows Update doesn't currently work the same way?

by this method, I can at least use the consumption of traffic and I can access the latest updates with the easier and faster way. I I would like to choose a memory flash for this purpose and keep the folder inside.

is there a way to achieve this?

  • can [4820tg] I replace my hard drive and always keep the Windows license?

Hey! A quick question, on an older laptop that is still alive.

    Acer Aspire 4820TG

    Windows 7 family

Can I replace the hard drive and install Windows again?

I mean, I burned the recovery CD or software any Acer asked when the computer was new. Those can be used to install Windows if I replace the current hard drive?

If so, how does the license? I guess that they can not be used on another computer, but I can reinstall all I want on this one?

    Thanks in advance!

And this laptop is awesome. Runs strong through its 4th year and the battery still pumps on ~ 4-5 hours by being careful with the use. Heh, the other parts are probably die slowly, including the hard drive.

    Well.

    Yes to all your questions.

You must use the recovery media that you have created, just check that they are still ok or create a new one, just in case where.

on the license, it's like SLIC table BIOS, so you don't need to enter a serial number and your windows will be activated automatically.

  • How to delete songs one copy of my hard drive? And keep them from the dupen yet!

Some songs are in my media player five times also in my file of music several times

    Hello

Please follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

I would recommend you to rebuild the database of Windows Media Player and see if the problem is resolved.

    Here's how:

To resolve this problem, delete the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. Click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Playerand then click OK.

    c. Select all files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Method 2: If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files.

To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. Click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

    Method 3:

When you move digital media files on your computer, the file name and file path information remain unchanged in your library. Then when you select a file to play to its new location, a new entry is created in your library if you select the option automatically added to your library when played. As a result, your library can quickly contain a large number of entries, duplicate or invalid.

To stop music files to be automatically added to your library.

    a. in Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options.

    b. on the Player tab, clear the files of music to add to the library when played check box.

Now, when you play music on your computer or the Internet, the file will not be added automatically to your library.

  • Portege R700-1hd: Questions about HARD drive replacement and passwords

I have a 1hd R700 with 320 GB HARD drive in stock. I want to upgrade it to 500 GB. This update should be pretty simple, cloning from the old to the new.

However, I was wondering about the HARD drive password / finger.
My HARD drive it configured to use a fingerprint/password on boot - I guess that it is involved in the BIOS and the drive itself, but I'm not exactly sure how.
I think the HARD drive itself is locked, it is not a Windows or BIOS password.

If I change the HARD drive will still be able to use startup disk HARD password/fingerprint? Are there requirements for material of HARD drive I need to consider before buying new HARD drive? As should be a specific type of HARD drive to work with password disk HARD/fingerprint digital?

    Thank you

    Hi bullerd,

The HARD drive password is stored on the HARD drive so when you replace the HARD drive you must set a new password of HDD in BIOS. The password is not stored in the BIOS. In addition fingerprints can also be stored on the HARD drive or let s say fingerprint digital software but all of the operating system must be installed after Exchange HARD drive so it s new problem.

So the two passwords you mentioned are stored on the HARD drive so it s no problem to swap the HARD drive. :)

  • Hard drive partition and install the new operating system

    HY,

If I partition my hard drive and I install a new OS (E.g. Ubuntu 14.04) my warranty ends?

    Thank you

    SA

    Hello

No, it will not void the warranty but HP only supports the problems with the original operating system and prove the operation of the equipment of the original OS.

Do the recovery disks and keep them safe before so that you could go back to factory settings if there is no problem of partitioning.

Recovery partition usually works after partitioning, depends on your luck, but you could make the 'Active' Partition in disk management and try for recovery if it works or not.

    Thank you

  • Hard drive crashed and I reinstalled Windows 7 but my system properties are weird.

    original title: help

After a hard drive crash, I reinstalled my operating system to windows 7.  However, I think that he is "buried" and unused o my new hard drive.  Instead, it SEEMS that I have windows NT, & a mix of properties in VISTA and 7.  I much prefer to have a real operating system, as opposed to the almost "virtual" NT  However, those who have themselves appointed trustee-directors, left me with little control over my own computer.  I understand that right now I NEED administrators.  I would be grateful however, certain controls - and certainly some understanding- of what is happening with my own computer: like, where to FIND things, OPEN & USE some of my own stuff.  Help!

Create a new user account (admin) if possible:

Have you installed the operating system? If so, your default user account is an admin user.

  • Apple TV, a hard drive external and HDTV (the trio)

    Hello

    Please provide some assistance.

I have a mid 2015 iMac 27-inch 5K retina and all my Amazon.com bought music CD and DVD installed on my external hard drive. The hard drive and iMac are connected. In my living room is a TV full HD (1080 p). I think buying the 4th generation Apple TV that comes with a USB - C (service & support) and HDMI ports. On my iMac, use the DVD player to play my DVD and iTunes to play my CD of music on the Apple web site, they say you have to get an HDMI cable.

Q1. Is the HDMI cable for the Apple TV to HDTV or Apple TV for iMac.

On the apple web site, they show the video formats such as H.264 / MPEG-4 (for example .mp4 and .mov file formats). My Amazon.com bought show DVD "vidéo DVD" printed on the disc. If I use airplay mirroring to display the screen of the DVD drive on the iMac...

Q2. The DVD player and the movie will appear on HDTV?

Q3. Do I need iTunes to play my music CD and ITunes will appear on HDTV?

Q4. Can I avoid iTunes and play my music CD by selecting the song which is shown in Adobe bridge (part of the Adobe Photoshop package)? When I choose a song in Adobe, iTunes pops up and plays the song. In any case avoid iTunes.

If there will be problems, and as an alternative, it would be better to do the following...

To buy a bolt of lightning to the HDMI adapter and a cable HDMI (male/male) covering 30 to 50 feet (bypassing the baseboard) to connect the TV to the iMac. Use system preferences to the screen of the iMac on the HDTV in mirror and watch iTunes and DVD respectively. Are there problems using this road?

    concerning

    Robin

Q1. Is the HDMI cable for the Apple TV to HDTV or Apple TV for iMac.

Between the Apple TV and TV, the only link with the Mac is on a network.

Q2. The DVD player and the movie will appear on HDTV?

No block of Apple of his application of AirPlay DVD video (other DVD players are not blocked)

Q3. Do I need iTunes to play my music CD and ITunes will appear on HDTV?

The Apple TV 4 you will provide alternatives to iTunes, but yes, you can play your iTunes music via sharing of home on Apple TV

Q4. Can I avoid iTunes and play my music CD by selecting the song which is shown in Adobe bridge (part of the Adobe Photoshop package)? When I choose a song in Adobe, iTunes pops up and plays the song. In any case avoid iTunes.

I don't think not adobe bridge is available for the Apple TV, as I mentioned previously, there are alternatives, but I don't know why you want to use them, the alternatives are just messy IMO.

  • Trying to remove virus format hard drive - when booting from the Windows XP CD, don't teach me to press a button to proceed with the installation?

Trying to remove virus, need to format the hard drive to remove all programs to remove the virus.  I ran several security programs which has not found a virus.  Taken at Best Buy, they ran their programs, could not detect viruses, but said there are something certainly on my system.  System is pegged almost 100% all the time, so I can't really use the pc.

Reinstalling the operating system is usually not necessary to remove the malware, but if you're convinced that this is necessary (it is sometimes), this guide is a good:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

(this assumes that you have the appropriate Windows XP installation CD)

Of course, you will need to boot from the CD instead of the hard drive. This page explains that:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

You also need to install the hardware drivers. I hope that you have them on CD, too. If this is not the case, the web site of the manufacturer of PC should have them.

Since a clean install wipes EVERYTHING, you should have all your data copied beforehand.
