hard drive with no disk!

I got a new mysterious message box appear today 10 minutes after turning on normally. My only task was to watch my Inbox before this message.

"The message read (I'm not accurate here)" pcdrcui.exe no disc in the drive. Insert disc \Device\Harddisk1\DR1. The usual options of OK, Cancel, continue appeared but I was immediately suspicious of the police and because of the color black & white square "X box" in the usual position of top right of the page. [My normal Vista boxes are oblong red with a white cross - if someone failed their homework!] As a rational, logical (and cynical) person, I was wondering how any computer could work with no hard drive at all... an absurd term first!

Can you confirm that it was a door opener for who knows what kind of horses of Trojan or invaders? I have not clicked on anything whatsoever without danger. I don't have a external hard drive or of these complications. If so, Please warn others!

My Ctrl/Alt/Delete (as you recommend) do not work - so no job was so open, I chose the 10 seconds stop button method. Turn on after one minute, the display message system on not be off properly showed with the option to "Start Up" normally appeared - just as expected. Since then, the magical computer without a hard drive seems to work normally.

My first task was to run a full scan of the MSE!

  • Can WRT1900ACS use an external hard drive with disks in RAID 0, 1, or JBOD?

    Hello

    Happy new year.

Is an external drive with more disks RAID 0, 1; JBOD compatible with WRT1900ACS?

I have this idea to tie a big (6-8 TB) external drive and use the DLNA feature as an alternative to a computer as NAS and DLNA server. The external drive could be four 2 TB Western Digital hard drives in RAID 0, 1; JBOD. The boxes can be:

    - Western Digital my book Duo.

    - IB-3640SU3 - external case of JBOD 4 x with eSATA and USB 3.0 for disks 3.5 "SATA hard.

I hope someone can help clarify if I have misunderstood something.

Hello. It is not recommended to use this type of enclosure with the WRT1900ACS, since most of this is managed by software that are installed on the computer. The software will not be able to detect hard drives, whether they are connected to the router and the router does not have this capability to configure drives in RAID 0, 1, or JBOD. The configuration of the router storage tool is just very basic. If you really need to configure RAID 0, 1, or JBOD in terms of network, you must obtain a SIN.

  • I have recovery disks but no disk drive. Is it possible to copy discs on an external hard drive with another laptop

I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd player recently sent me the CD of HP system recovery. I don't have an external dvd drive. What I have is a portable Toshiba Satelight with Windows 7 and a good dvd player. I also have an external hard drive to 500 GB. I thought maybe I could copy the disks on the external hard drive with the Toshiba dvd player. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 laptop by usb port and install Hp recovery disks from the external hard drive. Is someone can you please tell me if HRT is possble. Thank you very much.

Have seen others try this and fail miserably. I also saw a few attempt to copy on USB stick with the same end result.

Save yourself a lot of grief and borrow or buy a USB CD/DVD drive.

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop supports the disk HARD 2.5 SATA.
I think you could use a SATA SSD drive. Usually some SSDS require the firmware update but this should be provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

  • Can satellite A100-847 - I replace my current HARD drive with a SATA2 HARD drive?

    Hello

I am currently using a Satellite A100-847 with a 100 GB SATA 5400 RPM HARD drive. I plan to change with a Western Digital WD2500BEKT 250 GB SATA2 16 MB 2.5 inch laptop hard drive 7200 TRM. Is it possible to replace my current HARD drive which is SATA with a one SATA2?

And if not what is my best option upgrade of the mine to a HARD fast (7200 RPM) disc?

    Hello!

Yes, you can replace the current drive with a SATA2 HARD disk. You already have a SATA interface, and this means that you can use each HDD with SATA interface.

I don't know Mr. but as far as I know the Satellite A100 cannot use the speed of SATA1. This means that the new HARD drive maybe won't work with SATA1 speed but there is no significant difference in performance.

A HARD drive with 7200 RPM is really fast, but don t forget it produces more heat and needs more electric battery. A HARD disk at 5400 RPM is perhaps fast enough for you?

    Good bye

No, at least not by us.

Open a hard drive for some reason any at all can be done in special
laboratory as parameters. Something else will destroy the disk.

There are companies trying to recover data from broken disks,
and they are sometimes successful. And who knows, maybe they
sometimes use methods such as what you describe.

But if you plan to use such a company, know what they
are all very expensive. It does not for most people.

For the future, if you have files you want to be sure are not
lost, make sure to have in place a backup procedure on a regular basis the
    external media player.

  • HP mini 210-1032cl. I have a new hard drive with nothing on it. I don't know what to do.

Someone sold me a mini 210-1032cl without hard drive.  I bought a hard drive on ebay.  Where should I go from here.  I can't access anything on my hard drive with disk management.  I did some research and saw the formatting and partitioning of hard drive using disk management.  But how to do this with nothing on the disk?  Which is the best operating system I can buy which also has an Office suite (if there is such a thing)?  I'm trying to restore the mini without breaking the Bank.  I will soon go to College and I need to get my mini operational as soon as possible.  Apparently, this mini was Windows 7 Starter.  I tried the HP Support, but it is so confusing to me.  I don't know what I'm doing.  Thanks in advance for your help and your insight. Forgive my ignorance.

    Hello:

My recommendation is to click on the link below, and then click to expand the line of order recovery media, then click on the blue button more details and order the recovery disks that are going to install the operating system, software and drivers originally came with the laptop.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?OS=4062&LC=en&cc=us&DLC=en&sw_lang=&product=4125470

BEFORE YOU ORDER DISKS... Two important points to note...

    1. you will need a USB DVD drive to use with the recovery discs.

    2. the hard disk that you purchased should be the same storage capacity or larger than the original drive came with the laptop.

The original specifications drive was 160 GB.

With the indicator largeaddressaware under your 64 bit OS, it is possible for FS9 to use up to 4 GB of address space.

  • Pavilion dv7-4000 1 replacement of hard drives with more

I have a dv7-4000 series double portable hard drive running windows 7 64 bit. One of the drives died and I am looking to buy a replacement and want to upgrade, but I'm not sure if I have 2 hard disks of different sizes.

    (1) can I replace factory bad HARD drive with a larger 320? (I'd then 1 factory 320 GB drive and 1 car again, more)

    (2) is the brand of the material of hard drive (Toshiba courses)?

    (3) are there any specific specs I should look for or avoid (ie. rpm, Gbps, etc.)?

Hi wweksjk! : Yes, you can have 2 HD with different capacities for example on my PC of Xion MSI, which was built in 2006, I had 2 HD Western Digital, respectively 160 GB & 250 GB divided into 3 partitions

the brand name is not as important as the number of turns faster the car turns your computer will be faster

also look at the size of the buffer on the disk as well because the more it will speed up the boot time as well

However install a new drive as boot drive will be complex, but if you follow the instructions that come with the HD installer it is possible

for example, a 7200 RPM drive is faster than a 5400 RPM, but not as fast as a model k 10 or 15 k

    Good luck

hope this helps to & help

    Happy holidays!

  • Installed new HARD drive with the new installation of XP, old HDD ShowAs saw as the active partition, how to change this?

I installed a new HARD drive with a new installation of Windows XP Edition family. I want to keep the old HDD and reformat the drive, but I can't because the second HDD is listed as active in the management of the computer. Why? It's not the drive that contains the operating system (Windows XP) that is initialized from.  I put the BIOS such that the new HARD drive is the boot drive. The old HDD has Windows XP on it, but isn't the startup disk. I just don't understand.
If only the new HARD drive is installed, the computer management doesn't show that it or any other of its partitions are the active partition (C drive is listed as the system partition, of course).

How can I get an active partition and no active partition when the new HARD drive is installed on a HARD drive that is not the boot drive, when I have two hard drives installed?

In case it is necessary, the new HARD drive is a SATA and the old HARD drive is IDE with the cavaliers as a slave.

The system partition is the Active partition. The system volume contains the system files needed to start Windows, Windows XP, these system files are:

    NTLDR
    Boot.ini
    NTDETECT.COM
Ntbootdd.sys (present/used only with older SCSI controllers)

Windows files are not necessarily on the system volume, they can reside on another volume, when on a different volume this volume holding Windows files is called the boot volume.

When you install Windows on a computer, playing a mixture of IDE and SATA setup discs tends to favor with IDE drives on SATA drives and tends to use the IDE drive to house the system partition, (even if Windows is installed on a different drive).

Running the command SYSTEM SET at a command prompt may shed some light on the problem...

  • NMH300 and hard drives with 4 KB sectors size

    Hello

Does anyone know if the NMH300 supports hard drives with 4 KB sectors or only 512 b size?
If Yes, how HDs with 4 k sectors perform?

I know: XP do not really like the HDs with sector size 4 k. W7 has no problem.

    Thank you for your comments.

No, it won't work because new hard with 4 k sector disks require new chips of controller hard drive to be recognized. To be sure check just the NMH series hardware tested list .

    See you soon.

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.
