HARD SMART reallocated sector count 269, reallocated disk number of events 20

I have a Toshiba MK6476GSXN HD about 2 years on my laptop (my computer only).

Recently, I plugged a defective SD/USB converter, which caused all kinds of startup failures.
Before I identified the converter failed, I thought that my HD was dying.

I run cygwin smartmontools and he compared with those of 2 years ago.
To interpret the results, I relied on google with the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T. More normalized values are better, and it seems that 100 was chosen as the reference value in health for most of the attributes.

Selected from the smartctl output columns are displayed at http://oi58.tinypic.com/6psq3q.jpg
with the current output (as opposed to 2 years) being a hybrid of switches x smartctl - and - one.

I'm not entirely sure whether 3 of these attributes are abnormal, and these are marked by asterisks triple.
The average marked attribute (#191, G-Sense_Error_Rate) is probably not an indicator of the health of the HD, because errors are due to physical jerks. The other two attributes are #5 (Reallocated_Sector_Ct = 269) and #196 (Reallocated_Event_Count = 20).

There is no clear consensus on the issue of whether this is bad (for example, see http://superuser.com/questions/26842/can-i-trust-a-hard-drive-that-has-had-to-reallocate-sectors), so I intend to keep an eye on her and migrate off the coast of the HD over the long term.

I'm afraid the time commitment to do so, as I do occasional snapshots of the user content (admin & non-administrator accounts) selectively using find, tar, and zip on a disc.

I didn't used to use my backup utility Norton $ 60 (from 2 years) because I want to see myself I selected all relevant content and relevant content. Where this content tends to move with the years.

Those who have more experience with HD technology can comment on this point, based on the results of smartctl?

Did I miss something important that I have not already noticed?

Hi bookworm,.

I don t have much experience using this health HARD drive diagnostic software and to be honest, the importance of the values on your screenshots is unknown to me.

But many different tools of diagnosis of HARD drive (IE HDD health) provide clear State of the HARD disk as: temperature or current health status of HARD drive.
Recommends to check the health of the HARD drive by using these tools.

On the other hand the data backup should be done periodically because even if the software would show you a good state of health of the HARD drive, the HARD drive could begin to malfunction. You know it; things always seem to happen when you expect least them. ;)

    Hello

Reallocated sector - I think that's pretty important as an indicator of bad sectors and a dying Player. It is a failure. Those areas pending will be relocated eventually (if your drive has enough spare sectors), or you can backup your data and do a low-level format (to force the relocation of these areas immediately). If your HARD drive has enough spare sectors on the left, you can continue to use it.  It is essential that the drive has failed.

    Number of events distributed-

Count of remap operations (data transfer to a bad sector in a box special disk reserved - area alternative).
The raw value of this attribute indicates the total number of attempts to transfer the data of the sectors reassigned to a spare area. Failed attempts are counted as successful.

  • Re: hard drive (reallocated sectors count & number of reallocation events)

    July 13, 2010

According to Acronis Drive Monitor 1.0 (build 187), the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite L300 bought 27 September 2009 has the following parameters of S.M.A.R.T:

Name / gross value of attribute / value / threshold / status
    (1) reallocated sectors / 6 / 100 / 50 / reviews
    (2) number of events of reallocation / 6 / 100 / 0 / WARNING

    In addition:
    (3) the computer displays the Blue error screen the "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD), twice this week, on which it restarts immediately.

I'd be worried of failure and impending hard disk crash? What can I do to solve 3 problems above?
Acronis Drive Monitor can help predict when a hard drive is about to fail, giving you the opportunity to back up your data before the disaster.

    Hello

    > I'd be worried of failure and impending hard disk crash?

I advise you to backup all important data if you do before there accident

You have the guarantee of 3 years for a hard drive, so they must replace it.

    > What can I do to solve 3 problems above?

Try a program called HDD Regenerator 1.61 (you can find the most recent version). It is very good program to repair bad sectors. A few weeks ago, there was the user that could solve many of bad sectors on the hard drive using it. However, as written above, you should always be ready for hard disk crash

You will need to borrow an installation disc to a former operating system Microsoft - Windows 95, 98 or me. There is no way around it. If person don't you know is an older drive, you can borrow for a few minutes, you will need, you will need to either buy a copy full XP or take the unit to a local computer professional to do the XP installation for you. • Drive problem hard "smart hard disk error".

Hello, about 6 months ago, I bought my HP envy m6-1252so, and since then it has been slow til to get totally stuck showing the "blue screen" error message, a month later, I turned on and showed me the message "no device found", then I went where I bought it and they said it was a software problem. That's why the guarantee would not fix because it takes that hardware problems (I have 3 years warranty). A friend, who is a maintenance-pc professional told me that the hard drive has problems and he screwed up, he has absolutely everything deleted hard disk ensuring that it would be totally free from virus and he reinstalled windows saying that I'm having the same problem soon, I had since re - install windows all almost 2 weeks because that the problem won't let me run windows showing me the message "error of. smart disc"and it could not connect to windows. My question is how could get my replacement of hard disk without having the same answer "it's a software problem?

    Sincerely, Milton.

    Milton,

The "SMART Hard Disc Error' returned by your computer indicates that the hard disk has failed or is about to fail. Please see test of hardware failures (Windows 8) and/or test a hard drive in the BIOS for instructions on testing your computer for a hard disk failure. If the error codes are returned or a test does not complete, please contact the official HP support in your region / country, via the Portal to support HP worldwide, to file a warranty claim.

You will need to use the HP recovery media, you created when you first set up your computer to restore the computer to a factory state after the hard drive has been replaced. If you create your personal HP recovery media, also contact HP support in your region / country, to see if the HP recovery support is available for your computer.

    Hello

This looks to drive HARD going wrong and in this case the Get procedure isn't a real solution.
I think you need to replace the HARD drive in order to solve this problem.

The laptop supports version 2.5 SATA HDD and I think you should find some good deals online in your area.

By the way: after replacing HARD drive, you should be able to recover the laptop using the recovery disk.

  • Y410P does not recognize the drive HARD and "Bad sector found" errors

Hello, having problems with my son's laptop. He has recently updated to Win10 and after a day, the computer would not boot and did not recognize the existence of an operating system. I was able to create a bootable USB 8.1 and the operating system is now operational. However, there is no reconition of the HARD drive only SDS. The BIOS shows as available but who runs the Lenovo's Diagnostics tool (results below) translates into bad sector errors. Is there a way to recognize/recover the drive or do I need to replace? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Dave

Thank you for the interpretation. Is there something specific that allows me to know that the ST1000LM024 of HARD drive is defective? I guess that I'lll need something to get a claim under warranty. Thanks again.

The last part of your post (smart test) says that it is defective. To confirm this further you can try to physically remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer as an external drive or a secondary drive for further tests using the manufacturer's diagnostic program. BTW, Seagate is the manufacturer of the disk hard so that you can go to their site and download their program.

HERE IS THE MANUAL for this PC.  Replace hard drive starts on page 48, but indicated that 56 in the area of the manual drive.

In this same page 100 reported in the box as 108 States "light up the computer or restart the computer, quickly press ESC, then press F10.  This is part of the BIOS information.

The set of recovery disks will be back as 'new plant' just as it came when new.  No other software is required.  If M$ Office has been installed, maybe check if the disk key and products are always available.

To the extent where the SSD, do not have the recovery disk set up to automatically accept that in the PC when you run the recovery disk set.  You can try, but I expect to say that the computer has changed and he does not meet the conditions to use the set of recovery disks.

  • drive hard smart check

My sleekbook will not start. It says smart disk failure hard disk 1 (301). I try to run check the HDD and it just says failed

Looks like you need to replace the hard drive on your laptop.

If the laptop is still under warranty, you can contact HP customer care and they need it support for you.

Make sure you have ready operating system recovery discs if you try replacing the hard drive yourself you will need those to get Windows reinstalled on the system. If you have not done any before the hard drive crashed, you should be able to order them from HP. If you need assistance with this portion of it, let me know.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for the SmartTest failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

  • HARD does not work after changing the disk partitions recovery media creator

    Hello world

After installing windoows 8.1 April major upgrade (win 8.1 presents as OEM), and have shrunk C partition to create a data partition "D", "Troubleshooting" option under advanced start menu is no longer available.

Toshiba Recovery Media Creator does not work, too (it can not find any hard disk recovery partion).
I got in the OEM recovery partition.
I am also able to create a recovery using the Windows tool unit.
You have no idea about it?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Sorry to hear about all this. Unfortunately, you now have a big problem. I don't understand why you didn't create support of recovery before you started to change the factory settings, including to change the structure of the partitions of HARD drive.

Mobile offered with factory settings a structure specific partitions and recovery recorded image is saved on the partition of drive specific and marked with invisible markers. These markers are visible for preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool and when you start the tool can find points of reference and has full access to specific files.

Unfortunately, after changing the original scores structure Toshiba tool cannot find these markers more and is not able to copy files from recovery media recovery. What you need now is the original recovery disk. Using this disk, you can install original recovery image and after doing this, you will have new factory settings.

I know it sounds stupid now but you must order the original recovery disk and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If you have any other questions you are welcome.

I am installing a new hard drive in my late 2011 13 "MacBook Pro. I started using apple's online retrieval system and went to disk utility. I tried to format the drive, but he is stuck saying "remove disc" for about a half hour, and then I had a rotation beach ball and could not move the cursor. I restarted the computer and now the drive does not appear in the disk utility. Any help is appreciated as I have no idea where to go from here.

    Thank you.

You will may be turned off and check that your hard drive is correctly positioned with all the screws tight.
