HDD upgrade on Satellite M70 (PSM71)

Hi all

After upgrading to 2 GB system memory, it was clear my HARD drive slow down the entire system with its noisy race. But looking at the list of "drives hard compatitable" doesn't bring much because there are all external solutions. So I searched and found a few hard drives internal seagate but I don't know if they are compatitable with Satellite M70. M70 does support ultra ATA or SATA?

I have an external SATA HDD and can observe the difference in speed, clearly that's why I'm ready to upgrade the internal system HDD 5400 to 7200 RPM. As well, but I still don't know if M70 supports Sata or Ultra ATA drives. Need help at this point.

Best regards

Berk K.

Hello

To my knowledge, the Satellite M70 supports s HARD drive with SATA interface.
I discovered that this HARD drive specifications are supported:
Bus Master IDE
9.5 m/m, 2.5 HDD support up to 100 GB
Rotational speed 5400/4200
SATA and ATA parallel

The 7200 RPM hard disks are not listed, but I don t think that this could be a problem...

    Hello

First of all if you want to use Vista on this laptop, then you should do a clean install of Vista!
Second, there is a 5.30 - VICTORY especially for Vista 32-bit BIOS update! This means that you must update the BIOS if you want to use Vista!

  • Re: upgrade memory Satellite M70-159

I have the Satellite m70-159 with 512 RAM and you want to upgrade memory.
Is ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667 Mhz kingston 1 G memory compatible with my laptop?
I know that this memory will run as PC4200, but I don't know where to buy PC4200.
    Thank you.

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM.

The Kingston RAM must be compatible with your laptop because Kingston's high-quality RAM and many users here upgraded with modules from Kingston.
And as you say that the RAM will work as long as PC4200, it is not a problem.

  • HDD upgrade for Satellite Pro M70

Is anyone know the upgrades available to change the standard 60GB hard drive in the Satellite Pro M70 (PSM76E-00100KEN) with something bigger.

The Toshiba Options site shows only optionally available external hard drives, but noticed that the newer models of the same family have between 80 and 100 GB discs, so I asked if any of these would correspond, for example:

    PSM75E-00P004EN uses a 100 GB drive
    PSM76E-00500KEN uses a 80 GB drive

You can also all drives available from other sources that might be suitable - what spec should I look, speed, installation size, connections etc. and BIOS compatibility

All the info appreciated, surprising how fast the disk fills up, and I would like to keep in-house, although I also use an external drive of 250 GB for home storage and backups etc.

    Thank you

    Hello

The Satellite Pro M70 series is great, but I think that every m70 must support a HARD drive with serial - ATA interface.
Some units have been delivered with a 80 GB HARD drive. In my view, that a 100 GB HARD drive should also work.

I found a few properties of the HARD drive:
    Rotating disk: 5400 RPM
    Buffer size: 8 MB
    Number of discs: 2
    Number of Heads: 4

  • HDD upgrade on Satellite Pro M70

Could someone advice me if it's worth changing my hard drive of 80 GB 5400 RPM for a 80 to 100 GB 7200 RPM drive? There is much to gain and there traps?

    Thank you

The highest speed of HARD drive doesn't have to be a serious problem. Of course, faster hard drives produce a little more heat but it s not unusual.
The use of HARD drive might be a bit lauder because of higher rotation speed, but the performance of data transmission would be increased.

After the upgrade everything should work properly

  • HDD upgrade on Satellite Pro A120-184 - SATA or PATA interface

I have a 120-184 (1 year) and want to know if there a SATA or PATA interface? I need to upgrade the hard drive, but here? m do not know what model to buy... To be honest I don't really know the difference!

    Sorry for stupid questions,
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hey Buddy

    You need a SATA HDD.
The P - ATA is a technology more old which has been replaced by a new interface standard called SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment).

As I m wrong not the satellite Pro A120 was equipped with 60 GB HARD drive.

I think you should be able to use the 100 GB or maybe a 120 GB hard drives.
More big disk HARD s could not be recognized by the BIOS correctly.

In case you I would not try larger 120 GB HARD disk sizes.

    See you soon

  • HDD upgrade for Satellite M30 304

    Hello

I have a Satellite M30-304. It has a 40 GB hard drive and I would like to upgrade to 120 or 160 GB.

Could if it you please let me know the specification of compatible drive for M30 - 304?
Can what max HDD M30-304 capacity have? Detailed specifications would be useful.

    Thank you.

I doubt you could use a 160 GB HARD drive.
I recommend you to check a 120 GB IDE 2.5 "HDD.

The point is that the HARD disk controller supports the 28-bit LBA and bigger hard drives as 120 GB will not be recognized by the BIOS.

So in my opinion the 120 GB is the largest HARD drive that can be used.

  • Re: HDD upgrade on Satellite R630-14R

    Hello

I post my first question and I add a few long history! I have a running Windows 8.1 R630-14R.

How can I backup Windows 8.1 and then replace the hard drive with something like a 1 TB drive?

    Thank you!

    * Background: *.
The laptop comes with Windows 7 and 320 GB hard drive. The HARD disk is divided into a drive C: and D:, which means I have to divide my library of photos and music on the two disks. Very irritating!

I installed Windows 8, and it has replaced a lot of Toshiba. The laptop is incredibly fast now! I ahd to reinstall the drivers for everything, which was a bit scary, but it works brilliantly now without all the bloat.

But, the 320 GB drive is now close to full. I swapped a hard drive before, but it's Windows 7, with recovery discs, this time I 8.1, and not of records. In addition, when overwriting 8 installed over deleted 7 Toshiba backup program.

Also, I want to run the new drive without the split irritating, so that I can unite all of my music files, video and photo.

Of course (!) all files will be reproduced on an external HARD drive before you start!

According to specification for laptop, your laptop comes with Win7 preinstalled. I hope that you have created recovery disks until you have installed the own version of Win8.1. This recovery disks, you can use to install the original recovery image whenever you want, and it may be old to the new HARD disk.

OK, you now own BONES. Generally change HARD drive or upgrade is supported and you can do it alone. Toshiba has nothing to do with your decision to use Win8.1. You can do it and install on your machine, but as you can see, you need to install all the drivers, tools and utilities one by one and it's a little complicated.

Before you swap HARD drive you need to back up all your important data. It can be done on an external HARD drive.
In my opinion, you have two options to have Win8.1 on the new HARD drive:
Installation of Windows 1 / own
2 / you can create the recovery of your version of Win8.1 image by using some third party software like Acronis true image part and use these recovery media to install the version of Win.

What do you think of all this?

I think that this Assembly to support Toshiba HDD (hard drive) (number P000370340) must be compatible for the HARD drive.

  • HDD upgrade on Satellite Pro M10

    Hello

I want to exchange the hard drive of my Satellite Pro M10. Can someone tell me what drives can I use? On ebay, I found a disk HARD 160 GB fot this model, but in the manual they talked only about 30 GB, 40 GB or 60 GB HARD drive.

    Thanks for any help!

Your old laptop IDE interface for the connection of HARD drive, so I think you can use max 120 GB HARD drive.
It should be enough for this oldie? Do you agree with me?

    Hello

It depends on the HARD disk controller.
If the HARD disk controller support the 48-bit LBA then you would be able to use more than 128 GB of HARD drive

Since ATA-6 also known as Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100 the 48-bit LBA is supported.
So now to know what the HARD drive controller is supported by your L30.

I think you might find this detail using a program like Everest home edition for example.

Install it and check it out!
