Heavy fax HP CM4540 tone

We have 'Fax dial Volume' and 'Ring Volume' set to 'off' in Fax Send Setup and configuration to receive faxes, but our entire office can hear this thing to receive faxes.  Any ideas of what settings I'm missing?

Thanks for your help! Unfortunately, reset does not solve the issue.  We found a setting where the fax tone was put into diagnostic mode, which was to substitute the other parameters.  Once this has been changed to normal, the sound returned to our configured settings.

CM4540 Web Admin Page > Troubleshooting tab > Fax speaker Mode.  It has been set to "Diagnostic" and it had to be changed back to 'Normal '.

  • Fax in error tone registration unit

    HI -.

I have a user that receives voice messages where a caller mistakenly routed a fax to its IP phone number. The call is transmitted to the unit, which begins to save a fax tone. The fax does not get his hands back and stops, during which unity point to stop recording. The fax then attempts to broadcast 4 - 5 times, where the user gets the voicemails of 4-5. I use the recommended Configuration of the records with the exception of during a recording. I have this set to 1 because it helped to eliminate records where the charged appellant is stuck. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thank you :-) Ginger

Unfortunately it is not if we can do on our side of the pond here - the unit doesn't do any detection of tone of its own in this case (get us the events of your passes up through us CM or Dialogic via the TSP) - as such, it is noise that we will save in this case. We will not be able to identify as a fax tone and grill the message.

  • Turn down the volume on the tone and ringing for HP Laserjet Pro M1536dnf

We recently bought a Laserjet Pro M1536dnf.  I went through all the menus as well as the user's guide.  How do you turn down the volume for outbound faxes?  The tone and the call for ringtone is too loud and disturbing for the workers in the room where the fax.

    Hey Candlmc,

If you press the key on the front panel of the M1536dnf, then you will be presented with the configuration menu.  Highlight the menu of system configuration and select it.  Scroll down the menu for the Volume settings and select it.

This is the section that will allow you to change the ring volume and the volume of the phone line.

    Hope this helps,

I can't fax from my Mac Book.   I can print correctly, my Fax test on the printer report shows all past, but when I try the MacBook fax using the print driver, I get an error of tone number.

    Greetings @RCABrooks,
  • Fax test failed. No dial tone detected. Printer is connected directly to the telephone line.

I am unable to connect the fax. Connection what ever I use the tone was not detected in spite that I heard tone.

    Help, please.

I'm sorry you have a problem with the printer.

Perform a hard reset on the printer. Unplug the power cord at the back. Leave for 30 seconds and plug it back.

Also check the end of the telephone cord. See if it's a 2 sons (aluminium piece.

  • 7640 envy printer e-all-in-one: 7640 envy printer e-all-in-one: no fax tone

I recently bought this printer to replace an older HP all-in-one. Everything works fine except that I can't get a dial tone to the fax, only a busy signal. We have a phone system 2 lines Uniden, so a divider is used to the telephone wall jack. The fax line is our second phone line. I have not had any problems with the old printer, replaced. Yes, the phone cable is connected to the right places - 2 between the separator and line 1 of the printer online. Any suggestions or, I hope, a solution? I don't understand the instructions of connecting the answering machine directly to the printer, because the answering machine is not an independent unit, but part of the Uniden phone system. Not that it is important, but AT & T is our telephone service provider. Apart from this question, this printer is fantastic!

    Thank you!!

  • Faxing documents, but LAN charger works fax fails with an error "no dial tone".

I have a HP Photosmart C7280 on my local Wi - Fi network.

On the local network, I can print from my Mac (OS X Lion mountain) without problem.

I can scan on the LAN from my Mac without problem.

I can send and receive faxes on the printer itself without problem.

But when I try to fax a document from my Mac on the local network by 'printing' for HP Fax I get an error 'no dial tone '. I know that the document is to achieve the C7280 because the phone number that I'm trying to fax to appears on the front panel. I know that there is no problem with the phone line because I can go to the machine and send and receive faxes. If the error 'no dial tone' is meaningless to me.

    Any ideas?

I should mention that the phone number appears on the front panel as 1W8005551234 (I substitute a fake phone number, of course). I get the 1 prefix of composition in the dialog box print, as well as the phone number to ten digits in the number field. I guess that the printer driver is inserting the W as a code of 'pause', although no break is really necessary.

Abandoned by my friend yesterday, and his printer had gone off the deep end. Printing gave only blank pages, although it sounded as if the printhead has been dithering away normally. Tried to copy something, with the same result. Has been through the usual list of troubleshooting and eventually got to cyclical food printer, which restored things to normal.

So was the "no dial tone" error just an early symptom of a bigger problem pre-existing, or doesn't have the W in the connection string in my attempt at beginning of something through the Insider LAN fax corruption, or have the problem of fax and printing and copy problem unrelated to later?

    Who knows?

Anyway, once the print worked again once I tried something fax on the local network of the Mac for the HP Faxback number, this time put the 1 in the phone number field of the dialog box print, rather than in the prefix field of numbering, and everything worked.

    If life is good.

You can't send a FAX via a connection to broadband. Fax is essentially specialized phones and requires that a service composition is used at BOTH ends.

You can buy an analogue Fax/modem (USB types work well enough) or use a service to convert fax email...

  • OfficeJet 6480 problem w fax setup, will not pass through wireless phone

    OfficeJet 6480.

I took 20 minutes on the phone to find someone to get me to tell them what the problem is.

the first speaker gave me a ticket #8018531464

and passed me on the real tech support (I think).

Finally, I asked if I could please tell him what my problem.

He said yes and asked if f I have the black cord that comes with it.

I said 'yes' and he pulled the plug (1 line) on the 6480.

    He hung up on me!

hahaha, nope, the wwas cord connecting the cable-modem (TimeWarner) jack to the panasonic cordless phone.

in any case, I wasn't going to go through the introduction of 20 min. again, only to find out if he could answer the question.

    So here it is.

When I connect the black cable supplied with (for a single line I think) telephone jack of the cable modem (they provide my dgital phone, internet and Cable only ESA, no data dedicated line because I have to go through a flurry of faxes from time to time at home.)

then the decision-making ext 2 'lines' on the 6480, another cord goes to the single input based on the receiver of the wireless phone.

This is the problem, no tone came thru.

so, in this loop, I inserted the small adapter, single-jac + cord short. the output of the 6480.

and plugges regular there cord to the cradle of the wireless.

I had a tone. It seemed to work so far. So I went to bed, feeling successful, to continue to ensure that I had

However the next day it did not get a dial tone on the phone.

I think that the signal gets to the 6480, because I run the test and all passses. There is no test for what I am referrring to and none combined on the 6480.

I went into the details for several reasons,

I can omit something: oh, Yes, the router is a lynksys router.

There is a nearby office using the wireless router and a laptop computer in the other room.

plus, you get a little history, to learn something on me, as you go through the same routine that I do with technical support. HP is not the only culprit of this approach non-customer ceneterd. But even that does not make this right.

I suggest, if some listen to those interested. This customer centered woould be to first know of me what is my problem, while you may, or may not, to solve. Then, you can collect the serial number, etc..

In addition, since you ask the serial number, I would like, as a customer, with that number clearly presented in a convenient place, say in my opinion as I llook at the machine.

I hope to hear from anyone. Thank you.

Here is the document on the implementation for different kinds of digital lines (think VOIP is not listed) that could work however, the fax modules used in probably all HP AIO are for analogue telephone lines only (the kind of Ma Bell telephone lines that have nothing to do with computers).  So, you could be just out of luck unless you want to pay for another standard analog line in your home for the fax.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but makes no sense you need to beat your head in frustration on something that is not likely to ever work.  Oh and another thing - make absolutely sure that the telephone line is connected to the fax to send/receive is the one supplied with the printer, they are not your average phone cords that come with phones or you can pick up at the local super store.

  • HP Officejet Pro 6830: Receive faxes with a HP officejet pro 6830 w / answering machine

I had an OLD officejet model that could receive faxes even if the answering machine was not connected directly to the fax machine the 6830 manual says that it must be directly connected.  My current Brother printer does NOT receive faxes because of this problem.  Anyone know if I directly connect my machine to this model (Officejet 6830) to make it work?  I won't buy it if it will not work.

    Hello @JPJ408,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you are looking to buy a printer all-in-one HP Officejet Pro 6830 for fax purposes. While the User Guide advise you to plug the answering machine directly on the back of the Officejet unit, it is not necessary.

If you have a fax with an answering machine on her line, the only requirement is that the fax is set to two rings higher than the answering machine. Most of the responders are put back on 4 rings. As a result, you would set your Officejet to automatically pick up on 6 rings. In this way, when a voice is heard, you can manually respond to the call before the answering machine to pick up. If you are not home and then people can still leave messages on your answering machine. If you have a fax to come through, do not respond. The answering machine will pick up after 4 rings. At this point the fax machine "listen" on answering machine message and if fax tones are detected, the fax will take over and receive the fax.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion.
