Perhaps.  An analysis of file system I think would replace the help files, but you can try it, there is no harm.  Just open a command prompt (right click and "open as Administrator"), and then type sfc/scannow

  • Windows Help and Support will not start.

My brother is running windows Vista, and the application help and Support Windows will not start.  The exact wording is:

"Help and Support could not start.  For more information, contact your system administrator or visit http://windowshelp.microsoft.com"

Clicked on the link but no help at all.  A system restore would work, and if yes, what are the other effects there - he will have to reinstall all windows updates, service packs, etc.. ?

I could restore just the request of assistance?  If so, what files can I restore and where are they located?

I stick with XP.  Vista makes no sense to me and I can't find anything!

Thanks for the help :) Also, when I open my computer or any other program like the trash, the bar on the left side of the screen with the options (i.e., in the trash, which allows me to empty the tray) isn't here... Is there anyway that I can get it? I thought it was something to do with the help and support center, but even after that I got help and assistance, that sidebar is not there...

For this bar, open desktop (or any other folder). Go to tools-> Folder Options and in the general tab, check the show common tasks in the option box of records under the tasks column. The bar appears.

    I hope that helps!

  • "Help and Support" feature cannot start

All the features of help and Support Vista don't work (including one in the start menu).  I simply get a message that State "Windows Help and Support is unable to start."  Help and Support has worked when I first got this computer in March 2009, but has stopped working after the automatic updates (I'm not sure that one).  Unfortunately the restore has been disabled (for whatever reason) so I can't use restore to return to a previous point.
