Help, please - could not find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

I'm trying to P2V a Windows 7 64-bit HP8460p I followed different advice. running as admin, turn off UAC, decrypted the drive hard, etc., and I still get the "cannot find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible" error.

I don't know I'm missing something stupid. I have attached the newspapers; any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to delete the partition 'System reserved' to make it work.

  • (95%) FAILED: Could not find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

    Hello

I'm trying to virtualize a physical machine to my VMware infrastructure. I success to another machine, but this time it crashes.

    Here are the features:

Software: Client VMware Converter standalone 4.0.1

Machine: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Exchange 2003 SP1

Disks: 2 * 80 GB drives used in RAID 1 software mirror (2 partitions C: & D: cross the two discs)

    VMware farm: ESXi 4.1

    Configuration of the converter: http://image.bayimg.com/faackaadc.jpg

I try to convert the machine but I get the following message "FAILED: could not find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible." 95 per cent at the stage of reconfiguration (he create only a single vmdk).

My research, it is likely due to software mirror, implying to dynamic disks.

But I must not modify the physical machine, I have to migrate the computer because it is unchanged.

A machine appears in vCenter. When I started it, it does not start. With QParted, I activated the flag of "boot". Now the machine starts, but I immediately get a blue screen even in safe mode. ( http://image.bayimg.com/faacaaadc.jpg )

I've added the vmdk to another machine, and run diskmgmt.msc to convert dynamic disk to basic disk, but he saw disc base already.

Initial configuration of the drives here: http://image.bayimg.com/eaacoaadc.jpg

    Attached files: boot.ini and newspapers

What can I do to convert my machine?

Thank you and sorry for my English

According to my research, it is probably due to the software mirror, which created from dynamic disks.

Alternatively, in I am not touching the physical machine, I have to migrate the machine what without changing.

A machine appears well in vCenter, when I start, it does not start. With QParted I activated the 'boot' flag The machine boot now, but I get a blue screen immediately, same en safe mode. ( http://image.bayimg.com/faacaaadc.jpg )

I added the vmdk on another machine, with diskmgmt.msc I wanted to convert the dynamic disk to basic disk, but he was already seen as a basic disk.

What can I do pour machine to convert my?

    Thank you

    Have you tried

Try the option "set up the machine" of the converter against the vmx file that you already have.

  • Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible

    Hi all

When I use autonomous Vcentrer of conversion to convert windows 7 PC, I get the following error.

""Cannot find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible".

I use Windows 7 64-bit PC with PGP encryption.

Please help me to solve this error.

    See you soon

    Kumar R

No, do not all repair with VSS, because his race for your C: drive

Now the main question: your firmware from the computer's BIOS or EFI (or EFI running in emulation of the BIOS)?

Why I ask: when converter trying to reconfig machine (data is already copied) we found information BCD in place where it is stored to * EFI * machines, seems that it is false BCD and the converter cannot remedy this situation...

As a workaround, you can locate on your source disk folder named EFI (C:\EFI) and rename or delete. (if somehow that this is related with PGP the best choice is to rename the folder).

    Then repeat the conversion.

    Hi all

I am currently using Vmware vCenter Conversion v. 5.0.1 and I tried to convert a local computer running Windows 7 64 bit SP1 Ent two that has three times, but I still got the message indicated in the title.

My local computer has two physical hard disks:

    (1) boot HDD (part of the system reserved + part of startup)

    (2) data HARD drive, where the user dir is (part)

as I am a noob in Vmware I request assistance. I don't really know how to solve this error.

    Thanks in advance!

OK - start the virtual machine in recovery mode or use a collection of Win7 or LiveCD.
After that start is finished to start regedit - select HKLM and then click "load hive".
Select the C:\windows\system32\config\SYSTEM file and give it a name - 'p2v' for example.
Then find HKLM\p2v\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS and set the value to 0 initially.
Unload the hive again, then restart

  • Could not locate the system volume

I have a very similar problem that has been published before; However, the posted solution worked.

I can't find in the newspapers, what is actually wrong.  If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

"Then the conversion of a server to ESX 3.5 Server 2003 I received this message after only 95% complete.". Failure of the Reconfiguration of the error. With the State: FAILED: could not find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.0.1"

Newspapers reported the following errors (which are equivalent):

Impossible to reconfigure a source that doesn't have a system volume

    converter.fault.ReconfigurationNoSystemVolumeFault

It seems that there are 2 physical disks in the system

    > Drive:
    . \PhysicalDrive0 a type of adapter: 1

    > Drive:
    . A type of adapter \PhysicalDrive1: 1

Converter is to see the C:\ as long as the system volume, but there is no active flag set on it.  The second disc is recognized, but according to it's Converter:

    > is a dynamic volume. No significant partition information may be associated with him

So, it looks like there's a mirror of software on the source physical system or the original system was dual boot between something like Windows 2008 and 2003 Server.

If it's a mirror of the software, you can:

    -remove the mirror and conversion

-Use gparted on the virtual machine to set start-up/active at the first vmdk file flags, and then reconfigure the virtual machine via converter

If it is a dual-boot configuration, then I do not think that it is supported.

  • Reinstalled Vista, now it cannot find a system volume that meets the criteria for installation

OK, I caught a virus really bad and had to reinstall vista.  I have 4 hard drives on my computer. When I was going to do a fresh stall of my cd of Vista 64-bit, the first thing I did was to reformatt all my hard drives but the one with the files I wanted to save on this. Now, the problem comes when I try to select a hard drive to install vista, I get a message that says "windows cannot find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation"!  I get this message on each of the hard drives that I tried to install it.  These are the same drives exact I had at first and installed vista on several times before with no problems.  I even deleted the drives and tried repartioning them and always got the same message. Help, please!

OK, for anyone else who might encounter this problem, the solution is to disconnect all but one of the drives that you want on your computer.  Make sure you leave the one you want installed on connected windows and then do the installation. Subsequently, you can reconnect to the rest of your hard drives. !

  • Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation

I have a dell 15 Inspiron 4 GB of ram and I tried to downgrade to 8.1 Vista out of a usb port and I format the ntfs volume and I attribute to c: drive I have sata ahci mode and I get error windows cannot find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation, I checked the forums and found nothing I need help.

    Hello

You are missing a piece of the model number

But you will find that Dell does not support Vista on the Inspiron 15 models, nor provide Vista drivers for them.

Stay with 8.1 that Windows 7 would be the BONE earlier, you could install on it.

  • Windows 7: what are the individual "file system type" files in the system volume information folder?

Original title: Windows 7: what are the individual "file system type" files in the folder system volume information accumulating [not the files system restore I already know and don't use yet]

    Hi-

I stopped using the system restore, I found a better solution, for me, that's what I have to do.
Then I noticed that several 'file system' 'type' was being created, 12 times yesterday, 3 up to today in the early hours of the morning and stored in they System Volume Information folder, anywhere from 30 MB to 2 GB.
three of these file names 'file system' 'type' are:
    {debb21da-eafc-11e2-ba92-00241dc5d84e} {3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}

Anyone know what it could be?
Can I follow up to what program/process they are related?
    Are they safe to delete?
    Ideas?  Suggestions?
    Thank you.
    John

    Hi John,.

Yes, you can delete the system volume information data if not to use the system restore.

You will need to give permission to the folder until you delete it.

How to open a file if I get an access denied message?

Please post with the State of the question.
