Help to choose a video card.

I have a Compaq Presario SR5605F Desktop PC, Windows Vista 32-bit and 3 GB.

I'm trying to find out what kind of video card, I can use. I'll probably have a

EVGA GeForce 8400 GS 1 GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0-DVI/HDMI/VGA graphics card, 01 G-P3-1302-LR from amazon for video games work better.

IMO, I don't think.

The maximum of the power of the GPU call is 71 watts.

I used it in the PC with 250W P/S without any problem.

But do not play video games on my PC, other than the simple games that come with Windows

I guess it depends on the intensity of the PC games have you intend to play and duration.

This isn't really a game card, but it will run circles around your O/B video.

If you look at the links I posted for the ASUS one, there is no minimum recommended P/S card.

I think that once I fell a spec on the ASUS card when he recommends a minimum of a 300W P/S.

Google Nvidia 8400GS absorbed power.

And here's one where a guy says you can run it on a 220W P/S.

http://UK.answers.Yahoo.com/question/index?QID=20090318054621AAKoi5W

and another that says no problem...

http://www.TomsHardware.com/Forum/254196-33-GeForce-8400-speed-power-consumption

Use this handy tool to calculate the size of a P/S, you might need.

As I said, I think you'll be fine as is.

So if I go to dell.com, sign in to my account and go to the updates section, I can see a load of video cards to buy. These cards will automatically work on my Dell? For example, I see the GeForce 9400 GT 1 GB DDR2 PCI-E 2.0 graphics listed, but this card will run on my system? Will I have enough power (I think I have 300 Watts, but am unsure of much else regarding my diet)? What is a good upgrade on my current card? What card graphics PCI-E GeForce 9500 GT DDR2 1024Mo?

I really appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thank you!

I can not quite on what you currently have the video card.  What is a 8600GT?  If so, the 9400GT would be a downgrade and the 9500GT would be better, but not by much.  All PCI Express X 16 video card is compatible with your system so much that this is not your diet too much stress.  Unless the price is right, you don't have to buy one from Dell.  I just compare prices all around and just do shopping for the best deal.  I have a 9600GT in my Inspiron 530, but I have the 350W power SUPPLY.  Usually, I suggest the ATI HD 4670 as video card, you can get that don't require any additional power connection's top performers and work with your power of 300W.  Do not consider the 9400GT if you want to play one of the games of today.   Here is a list of popular HD 4670 from Newegg and you can compare prices elsewhere including Dell.  Note that you do not have to get a 1 GB card unless you have a monitor high resolution, 1920 x 1080, because there is little difference in performance between the cards in 512 MB and 1 GB at this level.

  • Please help me with the video card and power supply issues!

Hello and thanks in advance for any help. I'll try and do a short explanation, but I can't promise anything. I bought an a6620f Pavilion about 2 months ago I didn't know that you had to purchase a special hardware in order to play video games. In any case, I bought about 300.00 worth of new video games and none of them works. they say because of my video card. Then try to buy a new video card and it won't work because I only have a 250 watt power supply. I spoke with a hp technician before you buy a PSU and I was told that my motherboard was only designed to use a 300 watt max power I tried to buy one at best buy and the clerk said 4500 is the smallest they sell. and I need at least a 400 Watt or powerrsupply to make the new video card with a value of buyiong. My questuion is what can I do if I can't buy one more big power supply how can I install a new video casrd? Please help me I'm lost

    Hi chefinomaha,

Sorry to hear about your frustration. Here's some good news.

I think you have been misinformed or there was a communication error. Your motherboard should not be limited to the only 300W. I don't know with certainty how high you can go in watts, but you can go higher and should go higher, if you add a video card.

The important thing is to get the right kind of diet that fits your connectors.

    Here's your motherboard page.

Here is a document with step-by-step instructions and video for adding a video card.

Here is a document with the video to replace the power supply.

  • Choose which video card to use

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720. In Device Manager it shows that I have the 4000 Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M.

I am playing the new game Star Wars Battlefront, but it crashes whenever I try to launch it. I went on a site called Can You Run It and run their system detection utility, it says I have the Intel graphics card which does not have the minimum system requirements. How to make the game to use the NVIDIA card?

I tried to disable the Intel card and restart, but that did not help.

    Thank you!

You cannot disable the Intel GPU - and it will show always primary, as all the passes of video data through it--even that of the nVidia GPU (which is just a coprocessor).

Right click on the game icon and you should see an option to run with the nVIdia GPU.

You must also have an optimus nVidia control panel you can use - right click on an open office area or search for it in the control panel.

  • Help to choose a memory card

I just got my email replied cannon that the SX230 does not support the new card UHS-1. It does not suggest how fast would work better in this device, only this class 6 and would work on it. Anyone help with a suggestion? I think a Class 10 16 gb, but when I search a SanDisk I keep seeing abandoned notice (B & H). I want to get the most current/useful for the camera as all think will be electronic, that something is better coming right behind her.  I need to order it from the region of NY WA St is not expected to get one of these anytime soon by my local Kits store. Thank you!

Thank you once again! This is logical; I'm more interested by the speed of writing that ability as I can have different smaller maps and have all my pictures on one card lost or accidentally damage. I am in charge of the photo taken at a meeting of family WDW so desired something small, quick and easy enough for someone else to grab and shoot some pictures too. I didn't miss Granny scream as she took off on a roller coaster! Thanks again and I'll start looking for my card.

  • Pavilion P7 - 1050t: update on the Best video card

Hello, I upgraded my Pavilion P7 - 1050t a G620 processor i7 - 2600S with 8 GB of ram. Then, I want to upgrade to a dedicated video card and a new PSU. The State plug a PCIe x 16 expansion slot does not 2.0 or 3.0. I want to make sure that I get the best card I can get maximum use of. Any suggestions?

    Cgrech79, welcome to the forum.

New video cards require the UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS / Legacy.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid - October, 2012.  Your motherboard may not be upgraded in the UEFI.  The last video cards that does not need UEFI were 640 gt.  The PCI Express slot is 1.0 unless it is specified otherwise.  The version 2.0 and 3.0 are backward compatible.

I suggest that you determine the video card from the manufacturer that you want to buy and contact their Technical Support to help you choose the best card for your motherboard.

You need to upgrade the power supply (PSU), also.  The current PSU is 250W.  Most newer cards require at least 400W to work properly.  I love Corsair products.  I recommend that you buy a power supply at least 500W.

  • Pavilion NC768AA #ABA: HP Pavilion model. a6719f new video card with the new power supply?

    Hello!

So, I won money to buy (hopefully) a new video card!

    However, I have a problem.

I don't know which one to get!

SO, someone please, please recommend a video card for intermediate level games.

(My budget is less than $280)

    My PC has stock everything.

Thus, it was purchased as it was when you would get everything first he.

Yes, I need also a new power supply that is included with my budget.

    Thank you!

    Revionion, welcome to the forum.

I'd be happy to help you in your choice.  The main problem is, recent video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS to legacy.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  The latest maps not requiring UEFI were the series GTX 640.  However, MSI has made a card that has a VBIOS hybrid which can operate with a BIOS.  The best thing to do is to choose a video card you like and contact Technical Support from the manufacturer to ensure that it will work on your computer as it is almost 7 years old.  This will save you problems.  They are the experts on their cards.

I like Corsair power supply units (PSU).  I suggest at least 500W.  This will give you plenty of power for any card that works in your computer.

If you have any other questions, let me know.  I'll be happy to help you.

Please click on the Thumbs up button '+' if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • Impossible to replace the video card - Pavilion Elite Pro 410 t

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion Elite Pro 410t with an ATI Radeon to 2 GB video card (I think a 5770 or 5570). I'll call this map.

About 2 weeks ago it started making a noise annoying (sounded like a fan problem).

I have a spare, older, working NVidia card fanless (calling card B) and I swapped it in using the method indicated in the guide of the user/service.

When I turn on the Pavilion, it gives 3 beeps and there is no display, so I think that it does not recognize the video card.

I put the card back in and it works fine, except that the fan sounds bad and I'm not confident, it will last much longer.

I put the B card in another PC (home built) and it works fine.

I tried card B in the Pavilion, making sure it was well set and I get always three beeps.

I even went in the Pavilion BIOS settings to see if there was an option. There is no setting to choose the video card, but there only PCI-E option. Since I'm still just on the PCI-E slot, I left it alone.

So I have a work card (B), but it won't work in the Pavilion for a reason any. Has anyone seen this?

If it's a compatibility issue, is there a specific list of cards that works with my system? Do I have to buy the replacement of HP only? HP offers even replacements of video card for sale?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Yes, okay.
If you compare the PSU of the HP and the other PC (home built) - are there differences?
Maybe you need more powerful or more efficient power supply?

If you try the other power supply in your HP...?

  • Update video card for m8430f

I currently have a Geoforce 8500GT. Is there a better update available. I have 300 w power, windows 7 64 bit, 8 MB of ram ddr2 and single slot pci express.

This NVIDIA GT 240 should work or this model GT 240 1 GB DDR5.

Unplug your computer and open it. Read the label on the power supply unit (PSU).  What is the total power and amperage on the bus + 12 volt?  The amount of amperage + 12 volts is important when choosing a video card.

I use the card above in one of my PC (m9200t) who has the same motherboard as your PC.  Check the amperage on the bus + 12 volts.

All the cards that you mention are good. Other good brands are Palit, Zotac, Asus, perspective, etc. The differences between these brands are very small. The choice of one over the other should be based on the price guarantee functions, where features usually boil down to the speed clock and the amount of memory.
