Helps the folder view

In windows, when I had photos in another file in my folder of other documents had a picture of the content so could sweep more files without having to open them all to see what was in them.  Vista doesn't seem to have this option so feel to open all folders to see what's in them.  Is it possible to have the files as if they were in windows prior to vista?

Thank you

What you want is in Vista.  You can make some changes views and sorting and formatting and such but only in a comprehensive manner, based on the type of folder (and the type of change, are you a request).  Even if this is not enough to your desire, I included it as it is, and maybe you can use it to perform a similar operation that will work given the limitations that you need to work with:

Here's how to change the default template for a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets thefolder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show you how to resetthe Windows Explorer folder view settings, disableAutomatic folder Type discovery and increase theview of the folder cache to have Vista don't forget display settings, model of file type, size, or position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the goodFilemenu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free programhttp://autosizer.en.softonic.com/to resize them.

Here is another article on how to modify the columns in Windows Explorer and sort in Vista:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/108665-column-customize.html.  This will show you howAdd, Remove, move, change the widthand change the sort order of the columns in Windows Explorer in the way that you want.

Here is another article on how to change the display of the default folders in Vista (but she argues, it is not a perfect solution and can revert to the previous behavior is not as good as the two prior links provided:http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-10019957-68.html.)

I hope this helps in your situation.

Good luck!

I had the same problem recently.  Here's what I discovered, FWIW:

    • After reading all of the above, it seems that, at the base, this is related to the shell of the user of Windows interface and how he tries to 'reach out' to other systems.  Fixes disable the Windows Client, disabling home groups, disable sharing of files, etc.
    • I discovered that I have the problem that in some folders.  For example, if I try to create a folder in the my DOCUMENTS folder, the problem occurs, but if I create the folder in a random folder on drive C: (e.g.. C:\MyTest), no problem!

I wanted to start with the easiest, lowest impact.  It worked:

    • I opened the COMPUTER and removed a "network connection" that pointed to a server that is not currently available.

  • Windows 7 doesn't remember the folder views.

original title: Windows 7 doesn't remember the folder views. Microsoft is pathetic.

Once more, I find it quite pathetic that Microsoft Windows 7 as Vista, such as Windows XP and all other operating systems M$ has developed can not EVEN remember the layout for the records.

What is THE POINT of having more customization options in solution for users to set, Explorer if your code Explorer STUPID don't even BOTHER to remember. Users bother to customize their desktops and file only to discover that their work is broken as soon as the PC restarts or in Windows 7 Decides to forget or to crush stuff in the registry.

It is also pathetic that M$ has removed most of the "individual" customization of Windows XP folder now opt for a "point of view fits all approach!". (Ie the deletion of the folder option "View tab / remember this layout of records"). I can't decide if a file opening should have the "Navigation bar" to the left. Now, if a folder has the navigation bar, hey look, ALL MY FILES open with the navigation bar now! Yay! NOT.

Even with this, HE has YET to forget every customization that you made to your files!

Things going on in my head when I'm on Windows 7:

Mmmm. I'd like my account to have this icon or bitmap image please. There we go, very nice. Reset. Mmmm. Why is he returned to show all the file type icons in this new folder. Oh God, worst yet! NOW ALL MY FILES ARE RETURNED TO THE DETAILS VIEW. B * llocks, I've spent hours a lot, a lot, a lot (over time) establishing this batch! Gee thanks to shake me more M$. You've obviously spent a lot of money and many hours asking your BETA users which would p * ss them off the most when you use Windows Explorer. Voice of tester beta geek: "uh Yes, I think I was very p * ssed if all of a sudden he returned for more details on all my folders in Explorer. Microsoft: "OK, we're going to take care to include that then...". "Everything what is p * ss you off." Geek: "Yes, while your at it, if the navigation bar appears on EVERY issue and doesn't even have a shortcut key, so I had to reach for my mouse and go to a menu rather than quickly display and hiding cases of need, which would probably be p * ss me off really bad." Microsoft: ' hey this is a great idea!

Folder view settings should be remembered INDIVIDUALLY for the love of God, on a folder by folder basis.

I think that the removal of this option, and becomes the fact that Microsoft have removed code rather that actually fixing the code first place is a sign of how pathetic software from Microsoft.

I hope Apple start to develop their PC rather than just Apple Mac operating system sometime in the future.

It will ultimately be the nail in the coffin for Micro$ and personally, I'll be happy to see the back of them.

I'm a PC and I am upset that Microsoft Windows Explorer doesn't bother to remember how I presented my files.

If you want to know what I'm talking about m $ look the Apple Mac operating system and copy what they do (you know, the usual).
At least they seem to know what I'm talking about.

If you think I'm the only one who is upset at this by the way: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=windows+7+remember+folder+settings&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=0&oq=Windows+7+remember+folder&fp=a60718907b4ba39b

    DESIRED EFFECT

To have a folder and its subfolders all use the same view model AND having the view model to reflect the disposal of one of the folders.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

First, you must realize that Win7 treats these two very different applications:

    1. make subfolders use the same model from view as the parent folder.

2 configure how a view model is laid out.

My confusion is I thought that changing the layout of the folder parent by clicking on 'Apply to subfolders' it applies to the layout of the parent folder, but all it's means "all look to the model of display as well as the parent folder.

Understand that when you say "optimize this folder for: * music *" IT IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE THE LAYOUT of the folder! Only it it's a music folder (or general or images or other) and ALL TIME NOW ON the time the * music model is changed (via right click on any * music folder > organize menu > folder and search options > view tab > apply to records) THEN the layout PAGE ONLY will be updated.

So unfortunately, Xaero_Payne solution by itself will result in the 'problem' that everyone here seems to have. You do BOTH steps to make it work. (I know it's easy to chatting about M$, but instead of pi$ $ in the wind at home, we can as well get into their heads and understand how to use what we have).

    STEP BY STEP

You can do these two processes in any order, but I want to do such as this, because I can then more easily see changes. For the example below, I'll do their music files and I'll apply the Details view template.

R process: make subfolders using same view model

Right-click on the Parent folder that contains all of the subfolders > properties > Customize tab > check also apply... subfolders > select * music * (for this example) > apply then OK

Process 1: Customize and apply the provision of fashion model music

Find or create a folder you want to use the view model.

Select them * details * view (or list, large icons, etc.) and then customize the layout as you wish. Add new desired columns and rearrange them as you like.

Organize the menu > folder options and research > display tab > apply to records. THIS MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT OF THIS PROCESS because otherwise he doesn't know you want ALL the * music * files to be like this.

  • change the folder view to alphabetical to chronological windows Explorer

I want to change this chronological order of watching one of the subfolders in alphabetical.

Exp: Under my pictures folder, I have subfolders by year (i.e. 2006, 2007, 2008, etc.) who orgaize in chronological order but the subfolders of those subfolders are the months of the year and they are the list alphabetically - even if I spent a year at the front or at the end of the name of the month (so it still lists like this (: October 2006, September 2006)

I want to know if there is a way to get the subfolders to list as a calendar discovering putting an order number or letter before the month month.

    Thank you

    MOM of Godzilla

You want cannot be done because it recognizes the names like alpha-numeric characters and sorts alphabetically (just as it does for years - but this market because they are numbers).  Try to use a designation number instead of the alphabetical name of the month - 8-2006 to August 2006 and so on.

If it is possible (and I don't), the answer is maybe in one of these articles (especially the sort order on one) - but probably you'll learn from them that's not possible because you have things to put in place:

  • How to keep the folder views in Windows?

Original title: folder settings (options?) return that think Vista is 'practice '.

I have this desktop of Vista (Dell vostro 1700) for 3 years now, and he gave me no trouble so far. Vista doesn't remember my settings in Office 2003, for example. Really hard with my (working) translation software, often using MS Word.

But my problem now is: before I had an accident, it would return the views of my folders to tile all the time. No matter how many times I changed the settings to 'details' and to apply this setting to all folders every time I put my computer back on or open another folder, it would be again in "tiles". It's boring, I can't find something of a bitch in "tiles", and it's especially annoying because I told the computer to hundreds of times how I want to see my work, and she always returns to his favorite all time settings.  Now I have a new hard drive installed, want to use this computer as my mainframe for work and leisure, because my office is really slow, old and worn out (2003), and I want to go abroad for a long time and must be able to rely on it, particularly when it 'does what I want it to"it is.

  • List of folders in the folder view pane

On the left e-mail folder view pane shows all my email folders for the account. When you click on it, you see the Inbox, etc.

I would like to create FOLDERS such as the 'orders', 'Electronic secured', 'Reg Req' which are displayed permanently. In other words, I don't want to delve into the folder of email account (which are all reduced because I don't like clutter) to find files just to check if there is something in them.

My intention is to create RULES which read "Subject" text and sends my incoming email to these custom folders. Based on the text of 'Topic', I want to be able to see quickly if one is in 'Orders', or 'Secure Email', etc.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA

Your subfolders can be under accounts, which you don't seem to like, or in local files, where they can be more visible, but outside the IMAP system, so will not be visible to your other computers, tablets, phones, et al. You must decide where you want your subfolders. Records are mainly accounts and so loose, unconnected cases don't make sense in the section of an email client accounts.

Watch the QuickFolders add-on to raise selected records. Or mark them as Favorites and use review | Records | Favorites. Or use saved search folders to group unread messages. Or view. Records | Unread.

Understanding saved views and navigation records
In Windows 2000 Professional, the view you use is not always permanently saved in Windows Explorer. You can control if the views that you use are stored permanently or temporarily, to help to memorize check box of each folder view settings tab display of the dialog box folder Options (see figure 9.3).

By default the Remember each folder view settings is enabled. When you choose to leave this setting is enabled, the following occurs:

changes that you make to the folder view are saved automatically when you close the file.
    b. the display allows you to display a folder is not applied to other folders.
    c. When you open a folder, it opens in the view that you used when you last time there.
When you clear the checkbox for don't forget to display settings for each folder, the following occurs:

    a. When you start Windows Explorer, the first folder that you discover poster in saved view of the folder. Explorer Windows holds who discovers in the temporary memory and applies it to all the files that you have visited while Windows Explorer is open, unless you manually change the view.
    b. as you navigate to other folders (after having opened the original record), the view saved for each folder is ignored, and when you exit Windows Explorer, the folder view that you used to display multiple records is cleared from the temporary memory.
    c. the next time you open Windows Explorer, once more, the saved view of the first folder that you open that determines how you display multiple records.
Setting all folders on the same point of view

Some users want to have all their Windows Explorer folders defined on the same point of view. In Windows 2000 Professional, the default is that any changes to the view of the file is automatically saved when you close the file and are not applied to other folders. However, you can set all folders to the same view by using the Folder Options command, as described in the following procedure.

To set all the folders on the same point of view
    1. in my computer or Windows Explorer, set the display according to your preferences.
    2. in the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. in the Folder Options dialog box, click the view tab.
    4. under folder views, click on like current folder.
Important remember view settings check box each folder under the view tab of the Options dialog box of records (see Figure 9.3) affects how the display settings for individual records are applied and saved. For more information on the impact to disable this check box, see "Understanding saved views and navigation files" earlier in this chapter.

Don't forget that your left folder tree is set to 'tree' (the little menu icon on the right of the title bar).

Click on the + sign to the left of the main folder to display subfolders with images.

If you want to see the subfolders without all the media files, select the master folder and right click, then choose the last option to display all of the subfolders.
