• What is the recommended vNic to use with a 10GB network?

  We are to vCenter and ESXi version 5.1 and implementation of some new hosts on our new 10GB network.  I noticed that when you use the default e1000 vNic on a virtual machine, speed records only 1 GB.  When you use VMXNET3, it records correctly as 10 GB.  But I've read elsewhere that VMXNET3 is experimental.  Is there a best practice or recommendation of the type to use for the virtual machines on a network of 10GB?

  The VMXNET3 is not experimental, it is has been around since version 4.0 from 2009, or something and is generally recommended for all machines where you wish to optimize network performance.

  Hi all

  I currently have a Dell M1000e blade enclosure with some M710 blades with 6nics.  The switches on the back of the blade are stacked 4xM6220 switches.  After you have configured everything that I wanted to test the failover so I have disabled the internal NETWORK card ports that map to the NETWORK adapters on the blades, however when I did this VMware still saw the NPI as online when well even I loose connection to my service console if I disabled this particular port/NIC I changed the status of the link to beacon probe but this has had little effect.  Anyone know why Vmware would see the nic as online even if the port is disabled on the internal switch to which the NIC is connected/mapped to?

  Hi all

  I'm new to Vmware and I'm still in the process of documentation, but I'm trying to accomplish a vmware infrastructure network.

  I have the following equipment:

  Dell Equallogic PS6000XV reference - SAN - 4 network cards

  2 x Powerconnect 6224 24 GBE, managed switch ports

  1 x PowerEdge 1950 1U Quad Core Xeon with 4 GB of RAM - Vcenter

  3 x 2U PowerEdge 2950 2 x Xeon Quad Core with 64 GB of RAM - 2 x quad NIC - + 2 for ESX

  VMware Enterprise Edition (acceleration of medium kit)

  On this basis, I intend to use 3 VLAN on the physical switches, as follows:

  pSwitch - vlan goal - vSwitch

  VLAN 1 - production network (SMV) - vSwitch0

  VLAN 2 - iSCSI and vMotion traffic - vSwitch1

  VLAN 3 - vCenter and ESX management - vSwitch2

  In the idea of having a redundant network, both switches will rising fiber optic, and I decided using the following distribution of NIC

  SAN - will have 2 NICs connected to each switch

  ESX - 2 NIC - vlan3 - SC and embedded network management

  -2 network - vlan2 - iSCSI and vMotion network cards

  -2 network - vlan1 - production network (VMs) cards (I know I can use more than 2 cards network here)

  Please correct me if I'm doing something wrong.

  Also, I guess the vCenter system must have 2 network cards, vlan3 connected to one, to manage the ESX host and another, connected to the vlan1, in the production network, having a public IP address where I can connect remotely. Is this good?

  As suggested earlier, it is better to make a DMZ back to back to place your guests & vCenter behind him, after that you can activate TCP 3389 RDP of your production to vCenter server that is behind the firewall.

  I did the same excactly of installation:

  • 4 guests, double each with 20 GB of ram, 6 natachasery, 2 GHz Dual-Process 3.0 & unique FC HBA Ports.

  • • 2 natachasery for SC, vMotion & vCenter

    • 2 natachasery for Production

    • 2 natachasery of DMZ

  • I created a VLAN Trunk on my Clustred pSwitches and devote vmnic0 & vmnic1-> vSwitch0 and I activated the physical labelling on the ports.

  • • vmnic0 connected to pSwitch1 & vmnic1 connected to pSwitch2

    • on vSwitch0, I created 3 exchanges

    • • Service Conole

      • vMotion

      • vCenter

  • After connecting guests to the SAN, I created 2 VMs, 1 for vCenter and 1 as a MS ISA Firewall, both mapped to vCenter exchanges

  • • I assigned vNIC MS ISA Firewall 2, 1 of vCenter and a Production PortGroup, so I can get proper routing and Natting to join two networks via required limited ports controlled by MS ISA Firewall, now assuming that you know how to set up a back to back firewall

    • I welcomed only RDP to vCenter Server ESX network production.

  • To get rid of DNS and other issue of stuff, I configured the server vCenter Server as a DNS server for all of the network which is at the origin of the production. So the ESX host can get name resolution.

  This Setup works perfectly without any problems, but I think I would suggest, is not to use the virtual Firewall why? because you will need to open another port for your server to backup if it is put in your production network, NTP server, ect ect. As soon as the load on your network of ESX, you will see the virtual firewall eats a lot of CPU and memory resources. That's why I intend to change this firewall with a Firewall physical, to acquire the resources for something else.

  Do not build your Setup program and subsequently change your archticture network, once you change your configuration, you will need to disconnect your hosts on the network that translates = towards the bottom of your VMS losing services.

  Can someone help me with best practices by putting R710 via a M6348 stacked with a cisco network.

  Our configuration is the following

  M1000e

  2 x 1 GB pass-through fabric a

  2 x M6348 wired in a pile in the B fabric

  6 x popular R710 with four NIC ports in the fabric B (3 are general purpose servers, 3 are Hyper-V servers in a cluster)

  Cisco network

  For most of the Cisco 3560 switches

  20 VLAN (1 per building) configured, mainly for the isolation of traffic (VLAN 300-320)

  What (I think) that we want to

  The M6348 connect to the core network in a SHIFT (4 x 1 GB ports. Can it be divided 2 ports each of the stacked M6348?)

  Have a mapping of right for 1-3 to VLAN 301 R710

  Configure R710 4-6 for access to all VLANS for the Hyper-V hosts can be placed on the VLAN correct

  Use the fabric for the connection to the San

  Network management is carried out by a third party (we are unable to change this) and they claim that they are unable to connect Cisco/Dell!

  We are server guys, guys network no, so something stupid (especially for Cisco to give to our management company) would be appreciated.

  We tried to configure the switches in Simple mode, using a Dell deployment guide, but all we seem to get is the default VLAN to all ports on the switch 1 battery, but no other VLAN and no active port 2 in the stack.

  Are we sure that the VLAN 301 IP address is 10.49.56.0? This doesn't seem fair.

  When we try to pings on the trunk/General connection to the Cisco switch, make sure you that the servers have the default gateway defined on the VLAN IP address they are in access mode. Thus, when in the access mode VLAN 301 the gateway server would need to be 10.49.56.0. I would like to verify that the IP address, however.

• The engine through series control

  I'm working on a project that requires the operator to control the engine rpm and it is on and off a labview interface.  The engine is a Kollmorgen servomotor(AKM42E-ANDNC-00) that is connected to a controller of S20360-VTS of danaher. The controller is connects to the computer via the serial port.

  My question is if there is a way to control this motor through the connection in series of the computer.  I tried to communicate with is the use of channels but received only gibberish back. (I do really not understand communication channel).  The settings for the serial communication are correct (with the exception of flow control that I'm not sure).  Any help would be appreciated.  You will find info series beginning on page 57 of the manual of the controller.

  So, after having spent some time yesterday and today with Kollmorgen technology support.  I determined that t he car engine and cable series are actually owners and there is no way to interface with the engine outside of applications of Kollmorgen.  We tried to run commands and an engine test in Hyperterminal and Labview and the engine ended by locking for safety. Thanks for everyone entered btw, I learned a lot.

• The computer hangs when you access network resources

  I have this problem with a couple of computers at work.  Here's the question:

  Computer does not display the network icon in the system tray.  When you try to access everything which concerns internet, nothing works.  IE Page not found errors, etc.  When I go to control panel > network connections, my computer freezes and I have to close the Task Manager Control Panel to continue.   My computer will also freeze/hang up when I try to use another application that requires an internet connection.

  Not help not to restart normally.  The only way I could fix is by turning it off for a while, and turning back on later.  But even if it does not work 50% of the time.  Restarting over and over again does nothing; the computer still plays the same, no network icon / freezing when you access network resources.  Once he decides to however works, the computer has internet/network connectivity and no problems until what it is off again.

  I tried all the drivers out there for my network card and reformatted 3 times is not a virus/spyware.  The I'm having a problem with the current computer is one day having no application other than Windows Update, Microsoft Office, Java, Flash and Adobe reader installed.  They are all Dell computers, some are of the Vostro desktops, while some are older of the Inspiron.  Questions computers are running Windows XP SP3.
