Hijacked search preferences

I clicked on something that has installed crooked software which was to have one of these little difficult check boxes to see where you say you want to change your Yahoo search engine (I use Google).

Now, I have Yahoo on Safari and want to go back to Google. In Safari preferences, Google is specified.

This has happened once before if I know it's fixable, but I do not remember how I fixed it.

Try to go to Safari/Preferences/Extensions and disable all extensions. So eliminating the problem, activate them one at a time until you find the one who made the change.

  • Cannot change 'number of results' Google search preferences; It remains fixed at 10, why?

3.6 running on Windows 7. I deleted all cookies, delete preferences.js and don't know what else to do. This was the status for about a week now. The only thing I can think that I have installed at the same time is Microsoft Security Essentials, but its real time protection disabling did not alter behavior. It may be a question of system, since I have the same problem with Chrome and IE 8! I use ZoneAlarm, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 or Spybot as well, but I don't know how those that would affect this particular configuration. Thanks in advance.

Which is caused by a recent change on the Google site and the addition of instant search.

If Instant Search is enabled in the settings of Google search page (link at the top right) then you get only 10 results.

You must disable Instant Search and reload the result page, and then set the number of results to your preferred choice.

It may not work if you change both at the same time.

  • Unable to save the Google search preferences.

I use the custom settings for history. I checked accept cookies and accept third-party cookies. This problem keep recurring. Why? I check preferences to search Google, I want to, and sometimes one of the preferences is saved but not the number of results per page that I prefer. Or else, I get an error message that cookies are not enabled.

It's bad enough having to use Firefox failure to take charge at first. Then, to find a solution and have the same problem happening again again and again is ridiculous.

Try to clear cookies from Google.

  • How to clear Safari search preferences?

Safari uses only DuckDuckGo even if I checked to Google search. The results include spam and * spam. This feels like malware...

Click here and follow the instructions, or if you do not delete rather manually the adware, launches MalwareBytes for Mac. If you run 10.6.8 or earlier, you must use the instructions in the manual.

MalwareBytes simplifies the process of removal of adware, but does not stop it or other malware from entering the computer. It should not be invoked to prevent future incidents; Instead, avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or Developer Web sites.

  • How can I change my options of hijacked search defalt back to normal?

In recent days, I noticed that my search engine by default, on the Firefox homepage as well as on the search bar, has been changed to Yahoo. I changed the two back only to find that the settings reset themselves every time the browser is closed.

Since then, I have traveled dozens of sons to help in the other forums looking for a solution. Nothing works. I checked the yahoo software and AVG, I started in safe mode, I disabled plugins and Add-ons, suspect I deleted unwanted in the browser and hard disk search options. No dice.

I want to know how to change my default search to google engine.

For those who have similar problems, it seems that the culprit was a program called SearchSettings.exe that was running in the background on my computer. The program is often part of a set of search bar. In the case of my machine, however, the search bar is not installed and therefore appear in my browser does not add ons or my Add/Remove Programs menu.

  • 36 Firefox: How can I KEEP my choice of default search engine and Yahoo Search?

Firefox 36 insists now that I use Yahoo search constantly changing my default search engine choice. No matter now many times I put it for Google, I'll get something Yahoo and it's once again. I have Yahoo not checked in the search preferences, hoping that it will not be displayed again. Have restarted Firefox several times. No luck.

My last resort is to REMOVE Yahoo Search my list of search engines to prevent that from happening? I MIGHT want to use some time later, but not every day.

ALSO. If it's important, when I filled this question with 'installed plugins' information on my Mac and Firefox, a witness appeared, so I went to tools > Modules. This screen appeared for a second and instantly has far to another screen: DNS Yahoo Error Handler who had "garmin communicator plugin icon developer" entered in the search query box. My web experience is now taken by Yahoo?

Hmm, it sounds like you have some kind of hijacker in your Firefox. Try this:

Disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • Tools menu > Modules

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if it is obviously the badware, delete).

If Firefox is redirected at this point, see the next section.

Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Who help me?

If Firefox is unable to use the addons page, you may need to block extensions using the Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    Can remove you it?

  • Why Firefox has changed to show the U.S. on search sites when I am based in the United Kingdom?

Since the installation of her "forget the historical navigation button" Firefox automatically displays the American Web sites instead of the previous UK those.

The forget button is build in Firefox, but in order to ensure that there has been no change, have you you initially download the American or British Firefox build? I do not think that the two are linked, but you can change the search location in some search preferences. This can also be triggered by you IP address.

  • Remove all of the default search engine but google for all users?

I work for a school district that uses web filtering out both in network. We were running through a situation where our students are able to move from Google to Yahoo search engines to see inappropriate material. We have worked with our provider of web filtering outside to prevent that from happening, but so far no resolution of the problem. As I'm about to about 600 computers images for fall next, staff, admins, and especially Parents (I'm sure) would be as is not the case.

My question is this. Is it possible to change search preferences in the application Firefox so that all students can use to search is Google? I can do the application itself, or is this another case where the settings are all stored in the profile users?

    Thank you

Look in user.js creation and the lock settings, so the local user cannot change it.
    This should help!
