Hinge problem

The screws are falling down the plastic case of my HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook around the hinge area.  I've seen others ask questions about this same issue on other models.  What's the universal of hinges or specific model.  Where I could get replacements for my machine?  Are they easy to install?

The first thing I would do if you have not already, is to check the status of the warranty of your laptop...

Hinges are specific to each model. You can find for your machine on Ebay replacement hinges for usually around $10 depending on the model.

Replacing them yourself are work enough hard work as it should almost completely remove the palmrest Assembly and the strainer. You can find well done tutorials that will guide you through the process start to finish, but if you've never tried to do something like this before, expect to take an hour or more.

Another thing, if you screw down, you will have problems with plastic parts, such as the base of the laptop and the rear LCD where to screw the hinges. If the mounts for the screws broke (which is pretty common with hinge issues), you may need to replace more than just the hinges.

    Hello

Yes.  MY problem is solved.  Company and I got the replacement unit successfully.

Note: If you have a lot of software installed, especially of VMs on your current laptop, so my personal advice would be to get the repaired unit, I came across the problem to reactivate the license think little software, I do several facilities and refuse activation.   However after talking to the licensing issue has been resolved, but it consumes a lot of time.

However, if the activation of the license is not a problem for you then unit replacement is better.

PS. but in the new laptop also, I always get a little tic noice when I open and close the laptop from the left hinge.   That is why I it opens very slowly.  I have just pray and hope that it does not break.  because I get 2nd replacement.

  • HP Envy m6: hinge problem

    Hello world

I'm having the same problem of hinge than many other people with my Hp Envy m6. It is more under warranty and I wonder what are the options I have. My laptop is everything to me because I'm in my last year of college and I'm also a DJ is an essential part of my life.

Bottom left of my screen (black plastic part) is cracked due to hinges loosens. I see many other people are having the same problem, but it becomes serious on my laptop as the screen begins to blink if I move the laptop.

Could someone please point me in the right direction as seems to be a problem with the hardware as one number of others have the same problem.

    Thank you for your time,

    Brendan Lambe.

  • FORMIDABLE HINGE PROBLEM LIKE 6!

OK it's finally happened, my wife opened the laptop this morning and surprise! the left hinge cracked and bent the housing of the display, leaving us unable to open or close the laptop. This is obviously a design flaw, I am an engineer in mechanics by trade, but I think everyone can see that the screw that holds the carter plastic on the screen with a thin metal reinforcing framework (which is now all too visible) would still give out at some point not to mention the fact that the load of the floating hinge is facing what opening and closing are too much.

I'd appreciate it if someone from HP could let me know how they will solve this problem for me. It's a HP Envy 6-1010sa just turned 2 years old.

    Thanks george-p,.

Jeff of HP has messaged me, I look forward to his solution

  • M7-j020dx Touch Smart 17 envy: left hinge problem m7-j020dx want.

When I open the laptop now, the left back of the low box (below the left hinge) breaks down as the screen is high in a viewing position. I have to press the back of the left side of the bottom of the case and the top of the case to get the left rear of the closed box. When I drop the screen, the left rear of the case is falling apart and stay outside until the screen is closed. I am able to close the left rear of the case by pressing the up and down of the left rear of the case together. The right hinge and the back of the right side of the case do not have this problem. This problem started today. I have pictures smartphone that I can send if necessary. The notebook and the screen is operational. Just do not know what is happening with the left hinge to force the case apart on the back left side of the front panel.

  • Sattelite L50-B-1HH closes properly, hinge problem?

I have my laptop for 2 months now, but I noticed recently that it does not close correctly.
I was wondering how the hinges are attached. With my laptop, it seems that the left hinge is only attached on the left and right of the two sides. Is this correct?

On the pictures you can see how it closes, the left hinge and the right hinge...

    Can anyone help?

In my opinion you should clarify this problem with the Toshiba service provider in your country. Your laptop is fairly new, warranty still valid, so if something needs to be done it is covered by the warranty.

  • HP Envy hinge problem

Have the same problem of hinge like so many others.

Model laptop is HP Envy 1006ea 6 - Sleekbook

Hinge began to crack, so before it is gone completely, a small amount of glue had been applied to other damage preent.

It does not, the two hinges have now broken off--he has not been abandoned, it's not our fault.

Following this same problem, I had to replace the screen, as the hinges were therefore again, the screen cracked on the opening, and it has already cost £ 60. (I thought that I had to pay it as it was out of warranty)

Now both hinges broke I have found that there is a fault common, thought that my laptop, initially bought at retailers Currys, is not guaranteed in about 4-5 months.

Please let know us what you are able to do, as the laptop is literally now falling apart, with wires hanging out and can't be moved/open/closed.

Your call center says it's not their problem, but I think it is.

This post will be remounted. Look at your PM Inbox and you receive a communication. I am unable to promise that, but it would still be a good idea to keep an eye on it.

  • HP Envy 15t: 15 t broken hinge problem affecting current laptops?

There is no way to know for sure, but the new 15t has a design to hinge significantly different than those that have caused so many problems. I'm too familiar with the faulty hinge issue and after watching the new design, I'd say it's a better. Hope that helps... and I hope even more that I'm not steering you wrong.

  • HP envy m6 broken hinge problem

Bought a hp envy m6 in December 2012 for 630 books and 18 months later hinge snaps completely off causing the surrounding cases break. HP will do nothing about it because it is outside the one year warranty. I am disgusted as many other hp HP customers are not repair these free laptops for many customers with the same problem. Because hp would not put this issue on the recall list customers are left with broken laptops. I am disgusted with the service the customer of hp on this issue and I would advice anyone looking to buy a hp want to not waste their money on one. I've always had less expensive brands of laptops that have certainly taken longer than this expensive hp one. Shame on hp for this poor customer service

  • Hinge for the HP ENVY dv7 problem

I bought a HP ENVY dv7 two years December 6, 2012.  I don't really know when this hinge problem started, but when I saw the first time I've been a bit supprised then ignored it, thinking it was no big deal. But then he began to cause more problems than time and whenever I opened my laptop, problems such that the angle of the face has been slowly poping up and the window too.

I now could push corn on the backs of the part to place when never opened the laptop and the part comes out even when I close, so I would it push in place.

Last night, I discovered that the rear corner detached reveling inside the laptop when closed. I found the piece broke not for long. I think the part that is interrupted when I was placing the laptop inside my bag.  On a side note, not once I have droped laptop.

Piece                       Side view                                                                                                         Back View Closed

Is there anyway to fix my problem of Hindge?

In fact I recently fixed it my self...

I guess the screw jumped and it is the only screw that holds one side of the hinge in place.

I just replaced the missing screw with one of the screws in back and it's been fixed just like new. Well other than breakage of exhibits... I also noticed that the other screws were not tight all the way.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hinge HP Envy Dv7 problem

I bought my HP Dv7 Envy around 2 years now and the laptop itself works very well as usual. However, a year after his life, just after the warranty expired - the left hinge problem that seems HP Envy laptops computers riddle has occurred, causing damage to the carcass and the laptop overheating.
It was repaired by HP, but now the question is back again - causing my case crack and crack whenever the laptop is open and to substantially increase the heat of the laptop even during low stress activities, but also a slight separation between the base and the screen of the laptop and the screen "dive" to the left.

Student, money is quite difficult to find being and pay fix the obvious flaw in the design of HP laptop is not plausible, especially if the problem is recurring. Should what course of action I take? I am not happy with my also portable to the same problems that were laid off under "faulty subwoofer" last time.

  • HP Envy 15 t Toochsmart l: broken hinge

Hope this happens to Jeff.  My computer is no longer under warranty, but I have a broken hinge.  I brought this computer only 2 years and can afford to buy a new one.  The two hinges on my laptop broke. I googled and found others have the same problem.  Has anyone heard if HP publish any recall for hinge broken since a lot of people have broken the hinge question?  I heard that Jeff is very useful, I appreciateif anyone I would like to know how to communicate with Jeff? Thank you very much!

I was assigned to the case manager for broken hinge.  HP offers to fix it with the more than $150 price tag.  There are so many owners of HP laptop with the same problem as mine of HP forum.  Someone knows HP deliver any recall for broken hinge problem.  I hope that that goes message to Jeff.
