Home LAN in the network as 'Unidentified network' and position the 'Public' profile in black - cannot be changed.

I have two systems running W/7 Home Premium - in both LAN I setup for my home network is presented as 'Unidentified network' and is set to the 'Public Profile ' represented in black, which can not be changed. I cam change the name of the local network that is displayed correctly, but nothing else. I tried to use just the TCP/IP 4 and setting static IP addresses, who worked on these systems using Vista, without success. I tried to use TCP/IP 4 and 6 without setting static IP addresses - again without success. Looking at the forum for discussions on what I have not been able to find a solution to the problem. There are two systems.

MJMathews

I fixed it after many hours. Here is my situation and my workaround. It will be useful.

At home, I have 2 internet broadband connections. One is ADSL (20 Mbps) behind a router with DHCP and the second is cable (120 Mbps) directly behind the modem (public IP to the computer). Both lines go to my Mediacenter PC that is always on and running the Kerio control (https://www.kerio.nl/products/control/). Kerio is a router function software that supports the binding switch. As you can see, having a working internet connection is essential for me. A third network interface card is configured with a static IP (192.168.3.1), Kerio is running a DHCP server on it and is connected to my home network.

I did two things, but I think the real trick is the second. Anyway, the first step was that I ran the Powershell script mentioned in the http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dimeby8/archive/2009/06/10/change-unidentified-network-from-public-to-work-in-windows-7.aspx . Works on all networks unidentified to the networks work. Well, not either but the Group residential don't start on work networks!

Windows 7 detects your home network by looking at its front door. Because I was running router/gateway on the same PC, I don't fill out the IP Address of the gateway. So, he won't give the popup to identify the network and you won't be able to put it manually at home. Also, I forgot to do it in the script.

Setting of the gateway to the static IP address also did not work because Windows deletes the address of the gateway (192.168.3.1) after pressing OK. My Tip: Add a second IP address for the network card. For example 192.168.3.254. Then leave the main IP (in my case 192.168.3.1) and set the IP of the gateway to the second IP (192.168.3.254). A few seconds later, Windows will address the context menu and select "Home network" and you're done!

  • How can I change the network to a WiFi connection profile in Windows 8?

When I connect to a wireless connection, it automatically assigns me for the Public Profile. But, I know to trust the network and want to select it as private, so that I can use the share.

In previous versions of Windows, it was easy to change the WiFi profile. For example, in Windows 7, I would go to the network share and click on the name of the profile, and it would allow me to change it. Now, in Windows 8, the profile name is static text and is no longer provides a link that allows me to edit the profile.

I tried to remove the profile and add it back, using the context menu on the WiFi network and "forget this network". But he never asks on the profile or sharing when I add the network.

    Try this:

    -Show the charms

    -Select settings

    -Select the network icon

-Right click (using a mouse), or press and hold (with your finger) on the name of the network connection, that you care

-A menu will appear to allow you to control the sharing, so to go from a private and public profile.

  • Second laptop unable to connect; When trying to connect wirelessly, says connection is successful, but the Public unidentified network, no Internet.

    Hi all.

I'm really sorry to post this question, I must have read 100 other threads on this topic, but none of the solutions seem to work for me.

I have a home set wireless network in place, which may not have a lot of problems with it that I have a laptop W7 which has a perfect wireless connection, and also our TV connect when you want, as do our phones and Xbox.

We bought a second hand Acer aspire laptop for our daughter. It is running Vista Edition family Basic. Even if she had the factory reset done on this, because we can connect to the router with an ethernet cable and it works very well, we managed to ensure that all updates of Windows etc are all complete.

When trying to connect wirelessly, it says connection successful, but it is to a Public unidentified network, and there is no Internet. Also, even if it says Local access, we cannot connect to the router settings page is.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the built-in wireless adapter and updated the driver to do this, he says that he is as up-to-date as possible.

I checked that DHCP is enabled, we tried dynamic and static IP addresses, we have disabled and re ipv6 enabled, we used the command prompt to reset winsock and stack ip, I looked into msconfig services for service # Id_String1.6844f930_1628_4223_b5cc_5bb94b879762 # Apple off but it isn't here.

I have a real dislike for Norton / products McAfee and there is none of these on the laptop. We will install Comodo Internet Security, Eusing Registry Cleaner, Spybot S & D and Spyware Blaster as soon as the wireless is configured and that the Windows Firewall is disabled.

We also have many turns of the spin off the coast and laptops, etc. and deactivation and activation of the adapter.

It seems that all the usual solutions for the lack of connection are not the culprits this time.

I was given a message: "this video is not available with the filter of education allowed.» To view this video, site network administrator will have to add to a playlist. I work for a school district and use my laptop at work so I thought that I got this message because YouTube is blocked on this network. But when I got home, I got the same message on my home network with YouTube videos. I have reset Firefox and he took care of the issue until I'm at work, and the problem happened again with the same message everywhere... I tried to post the same videos on another browser (Safari) and it works beautifully. I'm afraid that if I reset Firefox even once, I'm having the same problem.

It is possible that YouTube set a cookie to filter which can still be seen when you connect at home. To clear cookies for youtube.com, you can use one of these:

    (1) 'dialog show Cookies' tab in Preferences/Privacy:

Firefox > Preferences > privacy > 'view the Cookies '.

Type yout in the search box at the top to filter the list and remove each cookie individually.

    (2) "view Cookies dialog box" in the Page Info/Security tab:

While displaying a page on the site-

Tools > Page Info > Security > 'view the Cookies '.

    -remove each cookie individually.

Then, try to reload the page and see if Youtube behaves differently.

    Help!

    Hi olliecox,

    ·         Did you the latest changes on the computer?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Step 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Step 2: Follow the provided items.
