Hotmail sign in problems Windows 8.1

I've been having a discussion by email with Hotmail support about the problem, see my original email...

  1. "I have two machines with Windows 8.1 and since both machines, I have always had intermittent problems accessing my Hotmail account. What happens is I get my address and password and sign in either fails to connect or seems to go in half way through the process and then freeze. This seems to happen for days at a time, and then other days, it works perfectly. Another machine, I am running Windows 7 owner is not completely affected as is my fire HD Kindle. All the machines access the internet through the same ISP. I've had this account for more than 10 years and do not want to change if possible. Your thoughts/solution would be greatly appreciated. "Cordially Robert Bacon.

They have subsequently, after various tests decided that the problem is probably with Windows 8. The thread is available in the object reference

1258869986. Moreover, I found that I don't have a problem if I access the account by a VPN (I'm not always). The same problem also happens on my wife's Hotmail account.

Your ideas, thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Robert,.

The essence of the question lies in the expression that it is an "intermittent" problem and does not occur if you go through a VPN but otherwise. He spreads the possibilities of base which may be causing the problem. Thus, the security of the system has a vital role to play in this situation. Since then, the issue is not resolved by disabling the security software, Windows Firewall could be the next possibility.

So, I suggest, temporarily, disable the Windows Firewall and check if the problem persists.

Refer to the following steps:

  1. Press the Windows key + R, type firewall.cpl , and press ENTER.
  2. Click turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click turn off (not recommended) Windows Firewall under each network location that you want to stop trying to protect, and then click OK.

Caution:

You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall is enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers. You must reactivate as soon as you have completed troubleshooting.

Please post back your results for assistance.
