How boot Windows Vista from a USB hard drive that has a good backup Vista already on him.

Hi, initially, I thought I had a virus (blue screens that appear often), then I thought I had a corrupted driver or systems file. So, I had a 2 t USB external hard drive and saved ALL my internal hard drive.  After execution of all kinds of tests from my internal hard drive, it does NOT pass the diagnostic test and always stops in the same place on the internal hard drive.  It becomes harder and harder to start on my internal drive of 'C' without getting some kind of blue screen.  I'm sure that now it's my drive "C" which is declining and malfunction and I am convinced now to go forward and every time you start my existing backup Vista SP2 that I backed up on my disk 'K', or if I can, then do a new clean install of Vista 86 x (32 bit) on the disc 'K '.  My boot sequence is as follows: 1. Disc 2 DVD 3. External drive USB 'K' 4. Internal drive C (eventually when I get all fixed, I turn OFF my 'C' drive.)  When I boot my computer without my Vista disk, it bypasses the 'K' reader, because all the "loadup data" is located in a folder and are not exposed, or I don't have the files to "load" just in the right place.  When I look at the file config.sys and autoexec.bat copied, I see nothing in the files that would be "load" my existing Vista, instead he just goes right in front of the reader 'K' and on the 'C' drive and loaded a version own intalled my Vista (if I can avoid a blue screen, sometimes I have to load in "safe mode" and even) It doesn't work sometimes!)  My question is what the loadup files are needed and where on my 'K' drive (in system32?) to be able to restart my old copy of Vista which has all my existing configurations in place?  Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.

The process is fairly simple once you put the old drive in the external box. You can use the usual methods of copy and paste in Windows Explorer. If you copy files, complete folders, you can take a look at RichCopy.

  • How to move files from the external hard drive to the keywords WITH main drive?

On a recent trip, I have uploaded thousands of images on an external hard drive that I used with my laptop. I keyworded and edited these files on the road.

Back home, I want to move the files (keywords and all) to my permanent LR library that resides on a different hard drive. How can I do this transfer without losing the keywords?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jessica,.

There seems to be a confusion of terms here: the catalog is where LR stores all of its information (that your designated as LR library in your original post).

While you were on the road, did you use LR to add keywords to photos, or have you used another tool? If you have used LR, you already have a catalog on the laptop, which you can then import into your main LR catalog (using import to catalogue option in the file menu). Let us know if you get stuck anywhere.

  • How to use a USB to boot Windows on a PC, the hard drive contains no BONE?

I have an ASUS ROG G75vw with nothing on the HARD drive. Nothing stored, no OS, it is just white. I have the product key for Windows seven that is installed by the manufacturer. I bought the laptop used, so I have no recovery disc and no boot disk, nothing of the sort tha. It's out of warranty, so ASUS will not help me. I can't find any ISO files anywhere either. Someone please point me in the right direction. I've exhausted my known options.

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

  • How to move data from the old hard drive to a new operating system, games, songs, vista etc.

you want to install more hard drive. How can I move all of the data, os, games, music, etc.

    and have computer always starts.

    Hello

You cannot move by themselves programs

you need to reinstall it from the original media

read this about moving everything, including the operating system

or save your data and reinstall clean vista

There are different ways to do

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning software to move your operating system installed from the old to the new hard disk

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought:

    1. that vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new hard drive

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

  • How to run windows 7 on the laptop already installed windows 8 from the same hard drive

    Thank you
    Teja

You will need to put the contents of the ISO image of Windows 7 on a DVD/Flash drive file and start, but after that you can install it on the same hard drive.  You could take little space and divide your hard drive into multiple partitions and install on one of them, or you can create a virtual hard disk (VHD) file and install on that.

I wrote about the VHD method on my site back when Windows 8 came out first, but it works backwards too.

  • How can I start my external USB hard drive?

My old Windows XP laptop doesn't work anymore... so I took out the hard drive and put it in a USB enclosure. I plugged a Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and tried to start the old hard drive in the boot menu.
That didn't work because it starts to boot up normally, like a XP computer but all of a sudden, a blue screen comes up and says to "check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to ensure that it is properly configured and completed. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. "Something like that.

    Thank you
    James

The portable hard drive is expected to find all the material that was present in the laptop.  The material in your office is completely different.  The speed control is different.  You will not be able to boot from this portable player unless you put it in another laptop similar, at least the same type of hard disk controller.

However, you can start on Vista, plug the portable hard drive and read data from there.  Once you shoot everything that you want on the portable hard drive, then you could erase it and re-install Windows XP on there if you wanted to, but it's a lot of pain in the neck, if you ask me.  I have just to load the virtual machine and create a virtual XP machine if I want to run XP.

    Good luck, Thomas Dietrich

  • How can I remove the recovery partition from a corrupt HARD drive that I replaced in a laptop?

I replaced a HDD corrupted in the laptop of a friend and you want to reuse. How can I delete the recovery partition? When I try to use my Windows 7 computer management tool, it will not access? I did a complete player wipe (twice) what the partition is still there and I can't remove it. It's 14 GB of space I want to retrieve and use the HARD drive in another system at a later date.

    Thank you

    Try the command line option:

Start cmd.exe as an administrator, then inside the window cmd, type

    DiskPart

    then, type diskpart

    list disk

take note of the correct disc ID to clear

    type

    Select disk x

(where x is the ID of your disk to erase)

    type

    clean

your HARD drive will be erased completely

  • Satellite L300 - how to transfer data from the old HARD drive?

I have a toshiba Satellite 2410-504, which gave me the blue screen so I bought a L300 to replace.
Different are documents and photos I would like to recover from the old tosh-

Can I switch from hard drives overall if they are compatible or y at - it an advance to do and how... help!

The only way I know, it's that you buy an external HARD drive enclosure where you can put in the old HDD. Connect the HARD drive old this is the case with the USB cable to your laptop new and then you can copy your documents and photos.

These cases are not expensive and s for external HARD drive are very practical.

  • G570 - How to reinstall Windows 7 after replacing a hard drive that crashed?

    Hi all

I have a Lenovo G 570 and was very happy with it. Unfortunately, I had a hard drive crash (totally my bad, I dropped the laptop on the floor).

In any case I had to change my drive hard because I got this message: "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key any." I have always this message with the new hard drive which makes sense since I have to reinstall Windows 7, but the problem is that I don't have a sticker with the product key

Does this mean that the Windows product key is in the Bios? How can I get? Contact Lenovo to get a new product key and pay for it?

A big thank you to the person who will be able to help me with this, can not wait to start to use my Lenovo again.
