  I managed to fix it on my own over the weekend. In Safe Mode, disabled Norton and also downloaded a tool that Norton offers to help solve the problems of this kind.  The tool worked and my laptop works fine now. The update of Java was the problem - I don't allow anything not my automatic update system, but Java auto-updated anti-virus Norton was on.

  I suggest you disable any autodesk / autocad related items from msconfig and see if that gets rid of the message.

  Click Start, type msconfig.

  To after the results, click on msconfig and click on the Services tab.

  This error that u44m1p7 is related to permissions, when the application is not able to apply the patch in a place because of a lack of permissions there.

  1.0 folder location is - C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0 - ( This is a hidden folder to display the hidden files/folder please see, Show hidden - files help Windows)

  Please go through this document once more - "Installation failed" error U44M1P7 with Adobe Creative Cloud or updates of Adobe Creative Suite 6

  If the document did not help, I recommend you check the log files, not referring to troubleshoot Adobe Creative Suite install problems with log files

  Todays Nov 25/09 windows automatic update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x 64 systems (KB973688).

  Ouch again. That's the second problem with W7. Wasen can't able to install Flight Sim in windows7 says component MSXML 4.0 SP2 is not installed, please reinstall Flight sim to restore or repair, does that twice, but it does not work. This failure of XML Core Services could be linked to the MCXML 4.o problem?

  I followed all the commits that I can find, but not of specific solutions.

  I'm having the same problem (Vista). I can't find a solution validated for the error code 643 for the fix described.  I keep being told that the installation has failed.

  I suggest you unregister and re-register the windows service installed on your computer and check if it helps you fix Windows install error problem and if you can install updates for Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  A. click on the Start menu, click on run.
  (B) in the Open box, type msiexec /unreg and then press ENTER.
  (C) in the Start menu, click run.
  (D) in the Open box, type msiexec/regserver, and then press ENTER.

  Restart the computer and try to install the updates to check if the process worked.

  The good news is that these are NOT updated for Windows. They are simply updated for .NET Framework 1.1.

  If you can not solve this problem, I suggest you uninstall this framework (and all the updates, which can be uninstalled everything first) using Add / Remove programs in Control Panel.
  If you need this particular setting down the road (and you very well might never need!), you can always install it then.
  In the future, only install the critical security updates for WINDOWS. Avoid the optional software and hardware updates, since it is more trouble than they are worth. :-)
