  (a) the first thing to do is to stop the Windows Update service on your Windows 7 computer. You can do this by going to start and typing in services.msc in the search box.

  (b) then press enter and the Windows Services dialog box appears. Now scroll down until you see the Windows Update service, right-click on it and choose stop.

  (c) now that the Windows Update service has been disabled, you must go to the following folder and delete all files and folders inside:

  C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\

  (d) once you have deleted everything, go back to the Services dialog box, right-click on the Windows Update service and click Start.

  As downloads fail, when you run the patch, choose it is the default mode when you run it the first time.

  Yes, Mr. Difficulté tried it 50202 and nothing worked.  I was looking forward to a solution, so I ended up doing a system restore complete with discs that I did when I had this computer.  Then I did an inplace upgrade.  Still so many problems.  After hours and hours, I finally got to meet up with a working computer.  Thanks for your help.  You know much more that I do all of this.

  Problem: The program "HP updates Agent" run frequently and on no particular schedule, certainly not the one I chose.  He takes over my computer for hours and using most of the CPU, fluctuating between 13% and 87% to 1 etc.3% at 6%, etc.. The computer crashes and I can not use it for something else. On the HP updates screen, I put updates on 'NEVER', but that did not work.  The programs always run.
