Hi, I usually answer, but now I need an answer. My school want to get firefox, but we have a problem. To lock preferences, we use addons. The problem is that we have active directories Directory etc Setup, so that each user has his own appdata. Now, we have one of the 3 things so that we can lock:
1. a folder default appdata - a way to set firefox so everyone that uses our firefox uses a profile (run is disable, no Profile Manager)
2. a way to disable the addon of firefox locking down by default. I found the extensions folder in the installation directory, but when a new user is using firefox, it asks if they want to install the addon. This would mean that if the user clicks on no, they can bypass our proxy etc.
3. the installer of firefox so every time a new USER (notice, no profile) use firefox for the first time, seizes their account settings also.

More important, this must be adapted in schools. People have already benefited from our old system of proxy, we have another on its way. Some people break the law just to get on Facebook at school. This cannot be a vulnerable system. Unless of course you need to access the partition C exploit, GPO that stops.

Use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock the prefs or specify default values.

Place a local file - settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you will also find the channel - prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg file.

To prevent users to install using the software (extensions):

You can initialize a profile by creating a defaults\profile file in the folder of the program Firefox (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) and place as a user.js file or a file bookmarks.html in there.

User.js is read every time you start Firefox, so changes to the preferences won't last in a browser session.

I tried the migration option, but it only allows for migration between host data warehouses and not to rename the directory that hosts the virtual machine.

the easiest way, continuously needs storage vMotion of the guest. It renames the folder and the underlying file for the same as the name of object of vCenter. If you don't have much storage vMotion, then turn off the prompt and do a cold migration.
