  Uncheck the option 'Show online storage at the opening of the files' and 'storage show online when you save files.

  Safe mode is not likely to help, and system restore.

  Your user profile is probably damaged and that Windows has created a new profile for you.  If you are looking into 'My Documents' or 'My images', your old files won't be there - they are in the old profile.  Do a search for your files.  If you find them, you can copy the entire profile.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151
